Chapter 641:
Chapter 641: Chapter 641:
Before she could react, the sound of heavy boots filled the air, growing louder with every second.
"Freeze!" a voice barked, sharp and commanding. The beam of a flashlight cut through the dim cell, landing directly on her.
Yu Mei’s heart dropped. She glanced at her hand, still holding the knife, and at Sicong’s lifeless body. It was obvious what this looked like.
"Drop the weapon! Now!" another officer shouted as more officers poured into the room, their guns drawn.
Yu Mei’s mind raced. Her invisibility power wouldn’t help her now; the room was already filled with officers, and she’d never make it past them. Slowly, she let the knife slip from her fingers, the metallic clatter echoing ominously.
"It’s not what it looks like," she said, her voice shaking but defiant.
One of the officers stepped forward, handcuffs in hand. "We’ll figure that out later. For now, you’re under arrest for the murder of Yu Sicong."
The cold steel of the handcuffs snapped around her wrists. Yu Mei flinched but didn’t resist.
As they led her out of the cell, she saw her subordinate standing at the end of the hallway. His face was pale, his eyes wide with fear.
"You..." she hissed, realization dawning on her. "You sold me out!"
The subordinate stepped back, shaking his head. "I-I didn’t have a choice! The police were on us! I had to save myself!"
Yu Mei’s eyes burned with fury, but there was nothing she could do now.
The officers pushed her forward, guiding her through the dark, cold corridors of the jail. Outside, the flashing red and blue lights of police cars lit up the night.
Reporters and photographers had already gathered, their cameras clicking furiously as Yu Mei was escorted into a waiting car.
"Yu Mei, is it true you killed your stepbrother?"
"Why did you do it?"
"Is this connected to the recent scandal?"
Yu Mei kept her head down, her mind a whirlwind of anger and regret. She had always prided herself on being in control, but now her carefully built empire was crumbling around her.
As the police car drove away, she clenched her fists.
This wasn’t over.
Not yet.
Yu Mei gasped and sat up straight, her heart pounding in her chest.
Her surroundings came into focus: the dim light of her bedroom, the familiar scent of her expensive perfume lingering in the air, and the soft silk sheets beneath her fingers.
"A dream?" she whispered, her voice shaky. "That was all... a dream?"
Her breathing slowed as relief washed over her. But just as she was about to calm down, an icy chill filled the room.
"Not just a dream," a hoarse, raspy voice echoed around her.
Yu Mei froze. Her eyes darted around the room, but she saw no one.
Suddenly, the room around her disappeared. Everything turned pitch black as if the world had been swallowed by a void.
Yu Mei was standing now, but there was no ground beneath her feet—just endless darkness.
She hurriedly kneels and greets the dark entity, "May the darkness always shine."
"Rise." the voice said, sounding closer this time. "You must understand that if you try to kill Yu Sicong tonight, it will lead to your ruin. The dream you had—it will become real."
Yu Mei swallowed hard. "But why? I planned everything so carefully! I bribed the guards, I—"
"Plans mean nothing if they are rushed," the voice interrupted. "You act out of anger, not strategy. That is why you fail."
Yu Mei clenched her fists, anger rising in her chest. "Fine! If that future happens, then I’ll deal with the one who betrayed me—the subordinate who sold me out! I’ll make him pay right now!"
The voice let out another dry, cold laugh.
"And what will that achieve? More chaos? More failure? You are thinking like a fool, Yu Mei. If you truly want to eliminate Yu Sicong, you must act with patience and cunning. Rage blinds you. Use your mind, not just your emotions."
Yu Mei felt her anger start to fade, replaced by fear and confusion. "So... what should I do?" she asked hesitantly.
The voice seemed to smile, though Yu Mei could see no face.
"First, you must erase any suspicion of your involvement. Tonight, you will not act. Return to your life and let the rumors about Sicong settle. Appears innocent, quiet, and even supportive of his struggles. The more you act like you care, the less they will suspect you."
Yu Mei frowned but nodded. "Fine, but what about Sicong? How do I make sure he doesn’t survive?"
The entity’s voice deepened, growing even colder.
"You will not confront him directly. Instead, you will use those around him—people he trusts but who have grown tired of him."
Yu Mei’s eyes lit up as she asked, "Are you talking about the vice president? You want me to manipulate him into killing Yu Sicong?"
"Exactly," the entity replied.
Yu Mei’s lips curled into a sly smile. "That’s... genius. No one would ever suspect me."
The entity’s voice echoed around her, sharp and commanding.
"But remember, Yu Mei, you must be patient. Do not act out of anger or desperation. Build your web carefully, piece by piece, until Sicong falls into it. Only then will you win."
Yu Mei straightened up, her confidence returning. "I understand. I’ll do it your way."
The darkness around her began to fade, and the cold, suffocating air lightened.
"Good," the voice said, its tone final. "Do not fail me again, Yu Mei. Your future depends on it."
With that, Yu Mei found herself back in her bedroom. The soft glow of the lamp illuminated the familiar space, and the pounding of her heart slowed.
.....................
The next night.
Yu Mei had spent the entire day setting the pieces of her plan into motion.
She had planted subtle whispers in the right ears, ensuring the vice president of Yu Sicong’s company felt cornered and desperate.
Anyway, he was on her side. A little nudge was all it took, to make him want to kill Yu Sicong.
After all, the vice president was the one who had helped her to do all the dirty deeds and make it seem as if Yu Sicong was the one who committed all those deeds.
"This is my chance," the Vice president muttered to himself as he approached the dimly lit prison, his coat pulled tight against the cold night air.
Finally, he reached the cell block where Sicong was being held. The area seemed oddly deserted. Lin checked his watch. "Perfect timing," he whispered, pulling a small knife from his coat pocket.
Sicong’s cell came into view. The Vice president peered inside. Sicong was sitting on the edge of his cot, his head down, seemingly lost in thought. He looked smaller, weaker—nothing like the powerful man who had terrorized Lin for years.
"You brought this on yourself," The vice president muttered under his breath as he unlocked the cell door with a key he’d stolen from a distracted guard.
As the door creaked open, the vice president took a deep breath and stepped inside, his knife trembling in his hand.
But before he could take another step, blinding lights flooded the cell.
"Freeze!" a voice boomed, loud and commanding.
The vice president froze in place, his eyes wide with terror. A group of police officers stormed into the cell, their weapons drawn.
"What—what is this?!" the vice president stammered, dropping the knife in panic.
Two officers grabbed him and shoved him against the wall, quickly cuffing his hands behind his back.
"You’re under arrest for attempted murder," one of them barked.
The Vice president’s mind reeled. How had this happened? It was supposed to be a clean job—quick, quiet, and unnoticed.
From the shadows, a familiar voice spoke. "Tsk, tsk, Mr. Vice president. Did you really think you could get away with this?"
He turned his head sharply to see Yu Sicong standing at the back of the cell, completely unharmed. A smug smile spread across his face.
"They told me someone might try something like this," Sicong continued, his tone mocking. "And I was ready. Did you really think you’d succeed where others have failed?"
The Vice president felt his knees weaken as the realization hit him—he had been set up.
As the officers dragged him out of the cell, his mind raced with questions. Who had tipped off the police? Who had made sure Sicong was prepared?
Far away, sitting in the safety of her luxurious apartment, Yu Mei sipped a glass of wine as she watched the news coverage of the Vice president’s arrest.
Her lips curved into a satisfied smirk.
"Let the pieces fall," she whispered to herself. "One by one. Now Yu Sicong would let his guard down and I will strike..."
However before she can finish her words and smile smugly, she receives a message from her subordinate,
"Boss! Bad news! Please check the internet!"
