Chapter 79: A Spiritual Entity

Principal Wilson stood at the edge of the hospital room, adjusting the cuffs of his coat as he glanced around. Letting out a sigh, he fixed his eyes on Dean.

"First, let me apologize for bringing this to you on a weekend and while you were in this state, " Wilson said. "But due to the nature of the incident and how far it’s already spread, the school convened an emergency board meeting last night."

Dean sat up straighter in his bed.

"Dean," Principal Wilson continued, "I won’t mince words. The university is under heavy scrutiny right now. Your name is already circulating across student forums and social media platforms."

He then glanced at Adam who was standing nearby. "Yours, Adam and Marc’s name to be exact."

"I had nothing to do with it," Adam said.

"I know and— and we understand that Dean and Marc were affected by a substance," Wilson said. "And that the police report supports that. But unfortunately, your presence at the scene, paired with the identities of the others involved, complicates matters. So, we decided to suspend you and Marc."

"Suspension? Me?" Dean asked, his face turned ugly.

"Temporarily," Wilson clarified. "Until further notice. This is not a disciplinary action. It’s protective, for you and the university."

Dean gritted his teeth. "I was drugged. I didn’t even know what was happening until it was too late. Why should I be suspended for that?"

Wilson sighed. "We’re aware. But the issue isn’t guilt. It’s optics. One of the girls involved was Elisa Fortner. Her family has already reached out to the board, several times. They want accountability. Publicly."

Dean’s fists clenched on the sheets. "I didn’t touch her. I didn’t touch anyone."

"We believe you," Wilson said. "But belief isn’t the issue here. Public perception is. Your suspension will not go on your record. This is a cooling-off period, and the board hopes things die down in a week or two."

Adam glanced at Dean, then stepped forward. "You’re making him a scapegoat."

"No. We’re preventing a larger firestorm," Wilson replied. "Elisa’s father is the only brother of LA’s Mayor. Both of us don’t know what they are capable of. Moreover, if the school appears to do nothing, he will clearly escalate this until we’re all in court."

Dean stayed silent for a long moment, then looked up. "So, I’m out until the media forgets?"

Wilson nodded. "That’s the reality. I’m sorry. But if you need anything during this time, I will personally assist you. However, for now, I suggest that you refrain from going out. Let your body recover. Also, you are not permitted to go near the school’s premises. Please understand that we are only doing this for your own good."

Principal Wilson sighed before he bid both Adam and Dean goodbye.

"Don’t worry about it. I am going to call my father right now," Adam quickly took his phone and walked out of the room to call his father.

Once alone, Dean’s expression changed. He closed his eyes, trying to recall what happened, but the last thing he could remember was placing Matthew on the bed. After that, his gaze darkened, and the next thing he knew, he was already in the bed with the others.

He gritted his teeth.

Dean sat in silence long after Principal Wilson and Adam left. He could hear the sound of Adam’s muffled voice through the door, probably arguing with his father.

This school wasn’t just a prestigious name or a step toward career ambitions. It was the place. The only place he’d found after years of searching.

The first time he’d read about the anomaly in Destin City all those years ago, he thought it was an urban legend. A rumor from a Nexian chat forum, buried under conspiracy threads. But then he saw the records. The unusual movement of the Nexians around this area and the fact that not many families seemed to talk about what happened 18 or so years ago. It all added up.

For months, he had been biding his time and delaying the inevitable, holding off on stepping into the path that every Nexian had to face. But he hadn’t chosen this school at random. He didn’t care about the curriculum or social reputation. He came here for one reason.

Beneath the university grounds, hidden beyond what most students and staff could sense, was something ancient. A spiritual entity that’s unstable, volatile, and brimming with unrefined Spiritual Energy. A remnant powerful enough to force an unnatural awakening.

The kind of awakening few dared attempt. The kind that didn’t rely on spirit stones or an elder’s control. It was an awakening that would shape his core and break its limits.

Dean clenched his fists again. In five days, the blood moon would rise. He had timed everything precisely, waiting for the perfect moment to begin the ritual, to go beneath the school and confront whatever force still lingered in that sealed space.

And now?

He let out a bitter laugh.

"I didn’t come here to play student," Dean muttered. "I came here to awaken."

He had left his hometown just because he wanted to prove to his father and to everyone that he could be the strongest. He abandoned his family, refusing to accept any support from them because of his pride.

Dean had studied the school’s layout and tracked the fluctuations of Spiritual Energy around the suspected area. Everything pointed to the abandoned buildings of the school. He was supposed to confront it soon. Force the awakening. Survive the pressure. And then—if he succeeded—consume its fractured core.

It was dangerous. Maybe fatal. But if he pulled it off, his Nexus wouldn’t crawl into the Initiate Stage like everyone else. It would leap, adapting faster, stabilizing quicker, and maybe even unlocking early access to the Veined Stage.

Now, with the school trying to keep him away, the timeline was slipping. The entity wasn’t going to wait. Neither was he.

He looked toward the window. Somewhere, past the line of sight, the school stood tall and undisturbed.

He didn’t spend all this time tracing faded blueprints, breaking school firewalls, and memorizing the underground map to give up now.

No. He’d find a way back in.
