Chapter 1388: Breach of Contract
"It wasn't exactly at the same time. My side is ten minutes later than yours," Kaitlyn explained in a hushed voice.
Yvette quickly surveyed both situations and it was quite evident that there were many more people on the other side compared to Connor's.
"Connor, do you want me to help you?" Yvette asked him with a bright smile.
Upon hearing her words, his eyes flashed with confusion. He softly inquired, "How do you plan to help me?"
"It's simple!" Yvette replied nonchalantly. She then turned to Kaitlyn and said in a low voice, "Kaitlyn, since your ribbon-cutting starts at ten past ten, why don't you stay here with me to help Connor cut the ribbon? After we're done here, you can go over there. The distances are so close, the timing should work out..."
Arthur was taken aback upon hearing Yvette's words, surprised by her unexpected strategy.
"Isn't this a bit inappropriate, Yvette?" Kaitlyn voiced her reservations.
"What's inappropriate about it? You're here to participate in ribbon-cutting, and it doesn't say you can't do it for another company. You just need to do what you're supposed to do. I'm bored here alone, so you can keep me company," Yvette stated expressionlessly.
"Then, let me ask Mr. Arthur's opinion!" Kaitlyn suggested in a low voice.
"No need to ask. They have no reason to refuse. If they disagree, you can just cancel their event over there," Yvette asserted with an air of dominance.
"Yvette, canceling their event would result in a substantial breach of contract fine. I'd better discuss it with Mr. Arthur!" Kaitlyn spoke softly.
As Kaitlyn had signed a contract with Arthur's side, violating it would entail a hefty penalty. She couldn't afford such a large sum of money.
"Oh, come on. Let Connor cover that small amount for you!" At that moment, Yvette suddenly interjected.
Yvette was well aware that he was wealthy enough to easily cover such an amount.
Upon hearing her words, Connor nodded directly and said, "That's right, Miss Kaitlyn, you don't need to worry. If Mr. Arthur disagrees with you coming to our side for the ribbon-cutting, you can simply cancel, and no matter the amount, I'll cover it. Your appearance fee won't be affected either."
He was financially well-off, so any problem that money could solve was not a significant concern to him.
"Alright, I'll go talk to the people over there..." With newfound confidence from Connor's support, Kaitlyn walked confidently over to where Arthur was standing.
Arthur appraised Kaitlyn from head to toe, took a deep breath, and said in a low voice, "Miss Kaitlyn, the ribbon-cutting is about to begin. Let's go inside."
"Mr. Arthur, I apologize sincerely. Just now, Mr. Connor invited me to participate in their ribbon-cutting as well," she softly told him.
Upon hearing her words, he was momentarily stunned. He furrowed his brows and asked, "Miss Kaitlyn, what do you mean? Don't forget, we have a contract. Going to Connor's event would be a violation."
"I'm well aware of our contract, but it only stipulates that I attend your ribbon-cutting on time. It doesn't say I can't participate in another company's event. Your ribbon-cutting starts at ten past ten, while Mr. Connor's starts at ten. The venues are so close, there's plenty of time. So, after Connor's event concludes, I will come here for the ribbon-cutting," she stated matter-of-factly.
"That's not acceptable. You're a guest I invited. How can you go to the other side for ribbon-cutting?" His eyes widened and his tone growing agitated.
Hearing this, Kaitlyn's expression turned somewhat helpless. She murmured, "Mr. Arthur, if you truly disagree, then I have no choice but to breach the contract. I'll compensate you for any losses."
"You're breaching the contract?" Arthur exclaimed, taken aback.
"If you don't agree, I have no other options," she replied calmly.
"Do you even know how much you'll have to pay for breaking the contract?" He clenched his teeth and asked.
"Mr. Connor will cover that sum. I don't need to worry about it," she replied softly.
"You…" Arthur was left dumbfounded by Kaitlyn's response.
"Mr. Arthur, if Miss Kaitlyn is insistent on going to the other side, just let her. As long as it doesn't affect our event here," Zayn interjected suddenly.
"Mr. Zayn, what are you saying?" Arthur asked, visibly annoyed.
Zayn pulled Arthur aside and whispered, "Mr. Arthur, are you out of your mind? There are so many people watching. Miss Kaitlyn is willing to risk breaching the contract to go to Connor's side. What can you offer to make her stay?
"Are you suggesting that we should let her go to the other side?" Arthur gritted his teeth.
"She is determined to go to the other side now. If you agree, it will show you as magnanimous. Furthermore, she might still attend our opening ceremony afterward," Zayn analyzed.
"If you don't agree now, at most, you'll get some compensation. But everyone will know that Miss Kaitlyn is our guest. What do you think people will say when they don't see her during the ribbon-cutting?" Zayn pressed.
Arthur took a deep breath and remained silent.
"In short, Mr. Arthur, you're definitely losing face now. Do you want to lose a little face or a lot?" Zayn said expressionlessly.
Arthur finally grasped the situation. While he felt reluctant, he had no choice. With clenched teeth, he turned to Kaitlyn and said, "Fine, since Miss Zhao wishes to attend Zhang's event, go ahead. But don't let it delay our ribbon-cutting!"
