Chapter 382: Sacrifice
Chapter 382: Sacrifice
Without warning, Apollo and his guardian landed lightly on the cliff’s edge. No aura. No sound. Just their calm presence.
The five figures spun around in disbelief, instantly raising their defences.
Apollo stood with a calm smile, as if greeting old acquaintances.
"Leaving without saying goodbye? That’s a little rude."
His tone was light, but the gravity of his presence pressed down on the entire mountain.
The leader’s eyes widened, feeling shocked, as he didn’t notice until they appeared. "How—how did you—"
His expression was twisted behind the cloak and filled with anger and shame. He just, after coming out to this new Rion, let someone follow him.
But he quickly calmed down. "Bastard, you are being cocky; how dare you two try to follow us? This will cost you two."
"Oh come, let me see what you guys can do." Apollo calmly said, looking at the leader.
Unacceptable.
"Kill them both," the leader growled, stepping back as strange dark sigils burnt in the air around him. The other four figures sprang into action without hesitation.
In that instant—
Boom!
A terrifying shockwave erupted as three of them flashed toward Apollo with frightening speed. The fourth moved toward the guardian, dark claws stretched forward, twisting the space like a thin sheet.
But Apollo didn’t move. Not even a blink.
His voice was quiet.
"Kill?" He exhaled.
"You’re welcome to try."
And the next instant, the mountain screamed as their powerful aura shocked the world.
Apollo faced the attack of three enemies as they extended their hand, and three mountain-like dark hands appeared above him, trying to crush him to death.
Seeing this, he simply punched above him. It was a simple and direct punch without any fancy means. But that simple punch seemed to contain unimaginable horror of power.
Boom!
The three massive dark hands descending from above — forged from dark and mysterious power and layered with soul-burning sigils — shattered like brittle glass.
The impact of Apollo’s fist cracked the sky above the mountain. A blinding shockwave of invisible force burst outward, twisting space, collapsing clouds, and flattening nearby peaks like they were sandcastles before a divine tide.
The three cloaked attackers were blown back mid-air.
One was sent crashing through a ridge with bones cracking audibly. The second rolled across the valley in a trail of blood. The third twisted in midair, coughing black mist — the corrupted essence of his wounded soul.
The leader was shocked seeing such a thing, as this punch was too terrifying; he cannot believe how strong Apollo’s physical body is to be able to deliver such a punch.
Meanwhile, the guardian moved.
The fourth cloaked attacker barely had time to react as a silver blade flashed in the moonlight. His claws — meant to shred through divine armour — met a flowing arc of sword energy.
Clang!
His arm was sliced cleanly, black blood spilling as he stumbled backward with a snarl.
The guardian’s expression was unreadable, but his aura had flared to full. Unlike Apollo, his power was condensed — quiet but razor-sharp, with the stillness of a lake hiding a deadly current.
"You’re not worthy to touch my lord," the guardian whispered, vanishing again.
Apollo, after this simple clash, can guess the true strength of the four, which should be around the peak of the true god realm, which might make them stronger than most peak void gods here after suppression, as they had more experience and understanding; even their divine essence would be stronger than ordinary peak void gods, but it was nothing to Apollo and his guardian.
And although he felt the bit of weird power within the four, it was too weak that it didn’t affect them, as no matter what kind of mysterious power anyone had, it had to be of a similar level or close to their strength to have its true effect.
Now the leader remained, whose face was now filled with anger and ferocity. All over his body, black veins seemed to appear, and steadily his aura was climbing.
"You are the only one left." Apollo said, not caring about his surging aura.
The leader’s breath was ragged.
His cloak fluttered violently as his suppressed power clawed against the seal blanketing Rion. But even in this storm of rage and fury—he hesitated.
But the leader... was beyond retreat now.
"You think... this is over?" the cloaked man hissed. His voice was no longer entirely human — layered with a chorus of distorted tones.
"You dare humiliate me before those ants? You dare interfere with the will of the supreme being?!"
He roared.
A dark and terrifying aura seemed to come out from his body. His soul seemed ignited, and a very heavy and gloomy aura seemed to cover the sky and land, changing the entire atmosphere.
The land seemed to corrode, and the spiritual energy within the hundreds of miles seemed to be devoured, changing the entire land.
His cloak dissolved completely, revealing a warped, half-humanoid figure — black veins pulsing beneath translucent flesh, patches of skin overtaken by chitinous armour, and eyes that resembled twin black holes.
He had become something no longer human — no longer god — but something else.
The four who had attacked earlier weren’t dead but just lost their strength to fight and seemed to be awakened by some call. And from within their body, thick black mist seemed to start coming out.
They at that moment seemed to have lost it, as their body seemed to have started to deteriorate and slowly started to turn into a mummy. They began to wither. Skin shrivelled. Eyes sank. Their divine bodies started to rot from within, as if being consumed.
They were sacrifices.
As the four roared in agony, their cries tearing through the corrupted sky. With a final, echoing gasp... they perished.
Their divine bodies turned to ash and mist, and that black mist didn’t disperse. Instead, it was drawn — sucked — into the leader’s body like fuel into a roaring inferno.
The change was instant.
His aura, already unnatural and oppressive, suddenly mutated.
From terrifying to utterly otherworldly.
The sky above them split.
