Chapter 1350: Chapter 29: The False Future (Thanks to Leader Zhuge Huoshou for the generous reward!)

Einstein became melancholic.

In those intricately intertwined lines of time and space, he clearly saw that the future of humanity would be doomed in a world-class nuclear war in 1991.

He saw it very clearly—

[Douglas predicted many things correctly; in the coming decades, more and more countries would possess nuclear weapons, nuclear deterrence would be formed, and the "Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons" would be signed in 1968.]

[Yet, in the end, war between the US and the USSR erupted. With the first nuclear weapon launched, all kinds of nuclear retaliation systems worldwide activated at the first moment, the nuclear chain reaction spread across the globe instantly, countless hydrogen and atomic bombs exploded in various parts of Earth, and thousands of mushroom clouds polluted the atmosphere completely...]

This was the prelude to the extinction of humanity.

Einstein lowered his head heavily:

"How I wish the future I see is wrong, is false; how I wish Douglas were right; but..."

He stood up, went to the living room, and looked at the fish tank that hadn’t been maintained for three days.

The fish tank housed a total of 12 fish, now 7 floated belly-up on the surface, while the remaining 5 were devouring the corpses of their companions.

He had just seen this scene.

Before he walked out of the study and into the living room...he already knew how many fish had died.

Then.

He returned to the study once more.

Opened the curtains, looking at the warm sunlight outside.

"It will snow late tonight."

Einstein said softly:

"Next door’s little Tom will fall in 7 seconds, the ball in his arms will bounce out and hit Mary’s dog..."

"Ouch!"

His words had barely left his mouth when a little boy holding a ball tripped over the steps, fell face-first to the ground, and wailed loudly; the ball in his arms bounced and rolled across the road, thumping against the sleeping dog.

Whoosh—

Einstein drew the curtains closed.

It was apparent, the future he could see was real and accurate.

At least...the things that could be verified at the moment proved these futures were correct.

"Douglas."

Einstein lifted his head:

"Yes! Douglas! We arranged to meet at the Brooklyn farm today, I’m late!"

He scratched his head:

"Damn, where is Douglas now? He wouldn’t think I stood him up, would he?"

He closed his eyes.

Einstein began using the [time-space lines] in his mind to find Douglas, to look for his figure and location, to peek into his future.

But he found...

He couldn’t find him at all!

The reason being, he had no idea what Douglas looked like, not even a match for his voice.

Einstein helplessly opened his eyes:

"If I could see the history before I awoke, I could trace it to find Douglas, and naturally know his true appearance... But now, my ability to foresee the future started the moment I awoke, I can’t see any history before that."

"The impression I have of Douglas in my mind is just that King Kong gorilla mask and that hoarse, cold-like voice, I don’t even know his nationality."

"However, maybe I can look at my farm in Brooklyn, even though I’m late today, Douglas might be willing to wait for me in the farm."

Having just acquired this kind of foresight ability, Einstein was still not very skilled, closing his eyes once again, clumsily sorting through the time-space lines...

Soon.

He found himself at the farm in Brooklyn, discovering that there indeed was a black figure wandering inside the farm.

He was a man with Nordic features, yet mixed with some Asian facial features; it seemed, Douglas should be a "Eurasian".

Then.

Einstein held his breath, unable to believe—

He saw it.

Douglas’s eyes... were surprisingly also bright blue! Exactly the same as his eyes at this moment!

Recalling.

At the moment he calculated the cosmic constant 42, there were two blue little electric balls behind him; since one hit him, the other... must have hit Douglas, hence his eyes also turned blue like his!

"So that’s it, that’s it!"

Einstein suddenly understood.

This is fate! This is the bond—

[Douglas, like him, could also see the future!]

"I understand, Douglas."

Einstein squinted his eyes, clenching his fist:

"Now, to despair and lose hope for humanity’s future...is clearly too early."

"Having acquired the ability to foresee the future means the heavens have given us the chance to change it."

"As long as we can foresee the outcome of failure and destruction in advance, we can find ways to avoid it, change it, and guide the future of human civilization into a new direction."

"Let’s join forces, Douglas, let us work together..."

"[To forge a brighter future for humanity!]"

Having understood, Einstein’s emotions were very agitated. No matter how dark the future of humanity, it didn’t matter, he and Douglas could save it all!

"I must get to Douglas quickly."

Einstein stopped peering into the future, put on his coat, and hurriedly ran out of the study.

But soon.

He returned again.

Picked up the pristine sheet with only the number [42] written on it from the desk.

This was the origin of it all; he wanted to discuss this with Douglas, so this sheet with the final result of the cosmic constant should be taken along.

Folding the sheet.

He put it in the coat pocket.

Einstein dashed out, started the old car parked in the yard, and sped off towards the Brooklyn Suburbs.

...

Meanwhile.

In the western suburbs of Brooklyn, within an abandoned farm.
