Awespc is an amazing writer and this novel Genetic Ascension proves just that. The story is different stylistically from majority of his other works but it has it's own charm. The beginning was a bit slow for me and game mechanics aren't my favorite. I wish we didn't constantly get a complete status update every time one stat increases or when the MC gets a new title. Don't get me wrong the story is fantastic and after 30 ish chapters the pacing is good. As of the time of my review there are 887 chapters and I continue to return everyday to get my fix. I'm hooked.
If you love this the author has another novel sort of similar called "Dimensional Decent"
Not quite SS level. But definitely a fun journey.
World building 97/100
Mc 100/100 Other characters 90/100
Fights 95/100
Power system 100/100
Power explanation 50/100 (very confusing at start)
Dopamine production 100/100
Pacing 90/100
#1. Shadow Slave #2. Lord of Mysteries and now number #3. Genetic Ascension in my book so far. And all of this novels have amazing world building. If anyone can recommend me something on par with these 3 novels than please do.
It's a very good and interesting novel.
It has elements of Super gene done much much better than it's original and a very smart Mc. I suggest you try it it's really good and I can't wait for more chapters to be updated here.
Really good power progression. Mc is always either getting buttfucked but still winning (70%) or absolutely dominating the rest because hes gone past them already and is speed running to next stage.
I love the power system but as everyone else says its definitely convoluted, like it makes sense and is good but theres a new tidbit added every 50 chapters.
World building is 10/10 and lore is dropped slowly every like 50 chapters in bits, not to a confusing level but enough to hype, paint a picture or hint next chapters, honestly same way as the power system is explained but because its lore/world building it's actually really good
Nice detail is the vibe and writing style stay the same from very first arc so you can read untill like 60 for a feel of it and drop if it's just not for you (no asking "when does it get better" as it's a very consistent story)
I wont say theres necessarily character change as he acts the same but theres some great character definement as part of his strength comes from personally understanding himself and those chapters are written excellently, he definitely comes more into his own. An annoying thing is mc brute forced alot of problems with his pride and will untill he has a character development where he finally starts using his intelligence to scheme and has the world knowledge to let him.
The romance starts off really weird and you may compare it to authors previous work where he simps a whole lot but it eventually goes to normal where it's just them liking each other, although the "confession" was hilarious albeit weird too. She does get carried a f*ck ton but that becomes kind of a plot point later and isnt to an annoying degree, it's just like mc dropping by and defeating something or giving money, if you're dating an overlord like mc why would he not? Even at latest chapter shes not exactly useful (that's because mc is a freak though) but shes strong now at least
One of the better novels I've read in a while. Great world, great character definement, good writing. My only bone to pick is with the MC, who's runs into problems head first and luckily or through "will" and "luck" makes it out alive. You'd think he'd learn by the 5th time, but he really doesn't. He also doesn't really utilize his poison ability well. It's actually really disapointing to me how he's developed it, but I can't tell if that's the author or how the character is supposed to be. In the beginning, he's mentioned how poison is the perfect ability to bring down opponents stronger than him. But... he never really developed his poison to be deadly. Maybe more of an inconvenience to those at his power level. For someone who "studied venom", he's never really grasped that poison is supposed to be deadly, and thus a deterent. He's also never considered accumulating his poison or using it against large groups. In the tundra, he threw a snake venom pouch, and it infected a whole area for a long time. However, whenever he uses poison, it's almost always directly on his weapons (and is still almost negligible). I'm on chapter 600 so far, and I'll continue reading because it's a genuinely great world, and I'm hoping for some development.
Very good reading, one of my favorites at the moment, lots of twists and turns and unpredictability, the story is original if I can say so, the MC a little crazy or weird I would say. Well, to put it simply, I really appreciate this novel and I hope you do too.
The best of the best truly a work of art this novel brought tears unto my eyes 10 out of 10 for me
The writing is peak the world build is perfect and character development is on another level thank you for letting me have the chance finish this novel
Really got fooled into thinking this was gonna be good well guess what this is not it, and the fact people say this is one of his best books is insane like DD, rivers of night and even his new one godsfall rebirth are all better than this book that is so fucking disappointing
Like no character development for any my side character and the only important person is his gf.
review after 700 fucking chapters btw
Book is well written, plots are well fleshed out, but the reason I'll give this a four is that while it's good at sustaining attention, the power system is so convoluted that it becomes convenient for the author to twist things every which way he pleases on the fly. I feel like that's a mechanism to freestyle most of the book due to a hollow schematic for it's progression. But the psychological aspect gets me, MC has plot armors masked as person ability, it already seems he's born to rule all of existence, but the diction and depiction is peak, I prefer River of The Night though, it's he's other book by the way.
