Chapter 87: Leadership Skills

Chapter 87: Leadership Skills

Kaiju heaved a sigh of relief, after using the Scroll of Lesser Healing and Lesser Mana at Little Gorilla, whose heartbeat and breathing returned to normal. He carried the exhausted Little Gorilla on his left shoulder. Although he was a bit heavy, and the effects of the Ring of the Venomous Resilience and all other attribute-elevated effects had slowly diminished, Kaiju was able to carry him without problem.

Kaiju stored the heavy armor and the single-handed shield carried by Aqua in the inventory, even the light armor by Snow, repairing them with luck points. When the Gacha System informed him he had to spend almost a thousand luck points, his heart ached but he complied. After all, there would be more similar, if not, dangerous battles occurring in the future.

Kaiju had two thousand and three hundred one luck points left and he was determined to save it in the future where his artifacts would be nearly destroyed. All of the artifacts had been stored and were being repaired in the inventory, so he and his pets were half, if not, bare-naked.

Kaiju deactivated the Emotionless skill. However, even then, the aftereffects were still present, not entirely bad though. Kaiju glanced at the aftermath behind, and with an indifferent expression, did not even bother clearing them up, and left with the other serpents.

While Kaiju was venturing with serpents back at the main camp, he conversed with them.

"With our pace, it might take three days, including breaks every now and then."

"That is no problem. We can help you carry them, too."

Kaiju shook his head. "No need. They are my responsibility."

Ember went silent and so was Aqua and Zephyr. Both the latter were still processing the impact of the deadly battle earlier and were a bit ashamed they were helpless. It could not be helped, they did not possess a bloodline awakening. If it was not for that main factor, they might be able to kill the other higher races.

After all, it was not the first time they encountered other higher races and battled with them. They were even able to proudly brag about killing them by themselves–of course, those higher races in the lower ranking, not possessing a bloodline awakening.

Now, they understood how grave their future mission would be and they could not help but be apprehensive.

While they were lost in thoughts, subconsciously following Kaiju in front, the latter took the initiative to chat with Ember.

"Ember, I liked your leadership skills earlier. If it was not for that, the violet infernal might be able to turn the situation around."

Ember shook his head and replied, "You might be exaggerating. Snow knows how to fight. Only that, she became desperate. Although I could perceive her synchronization with that Gorilla, she seemed to begin acting in solitary."

Kaiju’s eyes widened and his admiration of Ember increased. "You noticed that. You are right. In fact, we have a battle formation. This is the first time we implement them in life and death situations."

"I see." Ember nodded. "If that is the case, then you should be their leader. I think you were not communicating with them earlier."

Zephyr and Aqua were taken aback. After all, it appeared Ember was scolding their new master, assuming it was an inappropriate behavior. However, Ember saw no problem with his words as he was only stating facts. If Kaiju was offended, he would not be worthy to be his temporary master.

As expected, Kaiju was not disheartened. He merely smiled and said, "I want to explain but you are right. I was distracted earlier by my own thoughts and I forgot to communicate with them."

"How do you normally work in your battle formation? You are the finisher, right? At the same time, you instill terror in your enemy, especially in the backline? However, it didn’t work earlier since the enemy was not a team, to begin with. Simply put, it just appeared we were fighting them individually without rest."

"You are keen." Kaiju nodded. "You’re right. I should be the one to act in solitary, not Snow, as she must cooperate with Little Gorilla." Kaiju paused for a while and continued, "What are your feedbacks on the battle earlier? What can you suggest?"

"It’s simple." Ember smiled slightly. "It’s for you to be focused on the battlefield. Earlier, you, indeed, appeared that way, but a second later, you were in a daze. I am really baffled by your actions."

Kaiju scratched his cheeks awkwardly. I was communicating with the Gacha System. He wanted to explain.

{Don’t push the blame on me.}

Since Kaiju did not respond, Ember continued, "My suggestion is that, since our... you and your pets’ enemy are single, you control the battlefield similar to what I did earlier and then strike at the crucial moment after everything follows in the palm of your hands.

You are a Beast Tamer, right? That is supposedly your job but you got entangled with another role that drifted you away from it. I’m not saying it’s entirely bad, I just want you to know how to handle both roles efficiently."

Kaiju nodded. "I appreciate your suggestions. I’ll take note of it."

Inwardly, his thoughts ran wild, thinking about what Ember had said. Indeed, he was supposed to be a Beast Tamer, but, earlier, he was not acting like one. He even kept his thoughts alone, just rarely communicating with Little Gorilla. He did not even consult Little Gorilla if he could still handle the repercussions of activating the Golden Third Eye the second time.

It was stupid of him to question Little Gorilla and Snow’s actions, yet he actually did not say anything to them during that moment. It conveyed how detached he was to them.

Ironically, he trained the battle formation with Qwanisha as the only enemy, similar to the situation earlier, yet he still failed. After all, he was used to observing the battlefield in silence, while acting to be the decisive factor in the battle. Simply put, he would adjust with Snow, often communicate with her, but not similar to what Ember had said–control with leadership skills.

Kaiju was aware he lacked such aspects, supposedly significant in the role as a Beastmaster. In addition, he was now a Beast Tamer, too, able to tame various beasts and control them in packs. If he would not learn simple leadership skills, that might be the massive wall he would face.

Without hesitation, he said, "I want you to teach me what you did earlier."

That was an order. Ember, however, just smiled and nodded. He did not mind teaching Kaiju, knowing Kaiju was still young. He needed to learn. As a tamed beast of his, Ember naturally had to heed to his order.

"That is no problem. After all, I can’t just let you waste the potential of your pets because of you."

Kaiju smiled bitterly. "You are right."

He accepted the criticism without grudgeness to Ember. He admired his leadership skills earlier, quickly adapted to the situation despite being so disadvantageous, and often was perceived as a helpless situation. Kaiju desired to act similar to him, achieve the same thing, to build more trust with his pets.

In that way, he could also increase the loyalty of the beast he tamed, in case they might leave him or overturn him due to his inability to be their master.
