Chapter 91: 85 Beheading_2

Xigou said with perfect righteousness, "What’s the problem with that? Once you get Luo Qianqian, take the path of a live-in son-in-law, and aren’t you then able to call the wind and summon the rain, have whatever you want, and then quickly gather resources, continuously upgrade, and grow stronger and more powerful!"

Fang Zhixing glared back, "Are you blind? Can’t you see what kind of person Luo Qianqian is? The reason I pay so much attention to Luo Qianqian is not because I want to pursue her; it’s because I find her too dangerous, and she’s best not to be provoked."

Xigou contemptuously retorted, "You’re just a coward without guts. There’s a rich woman right in front of you, and you don’t even dare to chase after her; you deserve to be chased by a band of rebels."

Fang Zhixing sneered in response, "You deserve to live your life as a dog, no, as an ungrateful wretch."

The man and his dog had soaked in their baths and were tired, so they lay down to sleep.

A dreamless night.

The next day, the entire city was still under martial law, no entry or exit allowed.

Ding Zhigang led the government officials in the arrest of people everywhere.

Guo Hongying, Yu Lan, Gao Daxing, Xu Dali!

Their friends and family, the people they usually came into contact with, were all arrested and thrown into prison for severe interrogation.

The prison was quickly overflowing with people.

Those who were arrested all claimed their innocence.

At the same time, the news that Yu Lan and the others would be executed spread rapidly and stirred up a great deal of commotion.

Ding Zhigang and Wen Yudong were both running around busily, and the entire County Government was bustling with activity, everyone exhausted to death, a scene of exceptional frenzy.

The only one who was carefree was Fang Zhixing, who had nothing at all to worry about.

The archers could train on their own.

Following Fang Zhixing’s previous design and arrangements, Huang Dashun and his ten people served as captains, each leading a team to train. In fact, Gao Daxing had already been sidelined.

To put it bluntly, Gao Daxing was just a supervisor; with or without him, it was all the same, and they could manage well even in his absence.

Three days passed in a flash.

The execution ground at the vegetable market!

When the sun was well up, Fang Zhixing led three hundred archers to the outskirts of the vegetable market.

Looking around, the market had a triangular outline.

There were pavilions and tiled houses built on the two streets to the left and right.

Upon Luo Peiyun’s request, Fang Zhixing swiftly divided the three hundred archers into two groups.

"First team, two hundred men, Huang Dashun, you’re the captain. Second team, one hundred men, follow me."

Fang Zhixing quickly counted the soldiers, pointed to the right-hand side, and commanded, "Huang Dashun, lead your team to take over the houses on the right side of the street, clear out all residents and merchants from within, and then choose the best shooting angle. If anyone attempts to disrupt the execution, act on my order."

Huang Dashun replied earnestly, his expression stern and inhaling deeply, "Understood, your command will be followed!"

Fang Zhixing gestured again, "The rest of you, come with me; we’re taking over the houses on the left."

"Yes!"

The archers obeyed the command and stormed into the various houses, whether homes or shops, without explanation, driving out everyone inside.

Soon, each archer had chosen a position, some squatting in front of windows, others hiding behind tall walls.

Carrying Xigou, Fang Zhixing performed an agile somersault and easily leaped onto the roof.

Then he looked around and quickly found a more spacious eave to hide under.

Meanwhile, back at the market, a scaffold was quickly set up, with canvas raised on all sides except the front to hide behind.

At first glance, the canvas seemed to be merely a prop for setting up the site.

But Fang Zhixing knew the real story behind it.

Wen Yudong, leading the infantry, was lying in ambush behind the canvas.

Time ticked away...

The citizens of the city, having heard the news, came one after another, packing both sides of the street, creating a sea of heads.

They were all excited, talking amongst themselves.

They were there to watch a beheading!

A beheading was, without doubt, one of the most visually impactful entertainments in this world without the internet.

Whether out of curiosity or a desire to watch the excitement, the people jostled to witness the event.

Noon was fast approaching.

Just then, a commotion burst through the crowd.

They saw Ding Zhigang leading a procession of government officials, escorting Guo Hongying, Yu Lan, and Xu Dali, making their way through the streets and directly towards the vegetable market, towards the execution ground.

"These rebels are extremely vicious; they kill on sight, and I’ve heard they even like to eat people!"

"Right, right, did you see that fat woman? She’s the one who killed the entire family of Merchant Zhang, not sparing even the chickens and dogs; she’s too ruthless!"

"These rebels deserve no mercy; they ought to be killed!"

"Alas, that Yu Lan seems to be a pitiful person."

"Pitiful my ass, she’s just a low-born woman, how many men has she seduced, how many families has she wrecked?"

"They all deserve to die, every single one of them!"

...

The entire place was buzzing with noise and commotion.

Guo Hongying and the other two were expressionless, neither crying out nor struggling or resisting.

They had already been tortured to the brink of death, and after being starved for three days, where could they muster any strength or spirit?

A moment later, Guo Hongying and the other two, like dead dogs, were carried up to the execution platform.

After a brief wait, Lord County Magistrate Luo Peiyun, dressed in official robes and wearing a black gauze cap, walked unhurriedly to a table and sat down.

Luo Kezhao stood by his side, a knife in his hand and his face full of murderous intent.

Luo Qianqian also appeared, sitting lazily beside Luo Peiyun, idly twirling her braids.

"The time has come, read the charges!"

Luo Peiyun commanded calmly.

Immediately, Luo Kezhao stepped forward, unrolled a scroll, and began to read it, word for word.

"The criminal Guo Hongying participated in the slaughter of the entire family of Merchant Zhang in Cloud Water Town..."

"The criminal Yu Lan, for personal gain, colluded with rebels..."

"The criminal Xu Dali, tempted by money, willingly aided the traitors..."

A list of crimes was recounted.

Upon hearing this, the crowds were filled with righteous indignation, cursing the trio of Guo Hongying as utterly vile and unforgivable.

In the next moment, Luo Peiyun stood up, took a command token from the cylinder and threw it to the ground.

"Cut!"

This word spread like wildfire!

At the execution platform, three bare-chested executioners each took a bowl of wine, gulped down a large swig, then spewed it out onto the large blades.

Pfft, pfft~~

The blades became moistened with the wine, which slid down the edges and dripped onto the ground.

Then, the executioners raised their swords in unison, aiming at the backs of the necks of Guo Hongying and the other two.

Such was the scene...

Fang Zhixing scanned the crowd, surveying every corner around him.

Huang Dashun and others had already taken their arrows and drawn their bows, pulling the strings taut, ready for battle.

Ding Zhigang, Wen Yudong, and the others, all had stern expressions, subconsciously gripping their weapons tighter.

Thump~

Thump~

Thump~

The blades fell, severing heads from bodies!

Blood sprayed everywhere!

The world was eerily silent at first, then erupted into a tumultuous roar.

In the reflection of the blood, the crowd burst into cheers.

Luo Peiyun looked around, a hint of disappointment flashing in his eyes.

Then, he sneered disdainfully, "The so-called rebels are nothing more than that."

Ding Zhigang and the others couldn’t help but let out a sigh of relief.

After this bloody purge, Qinglin County would likely enjoy some peaceful days.

The matter was concluded.

Fang Zhixing curled his lip, bored, and dispersed his troops.

By the afternoon, curfew and martial law were lifted entirely.

Life in the city quickly returned to normal.

Evening arrived soon!

"Damn, I was so tense today."

Ding Zhigang walked up to Fang Zhixing, wiping the sweat from his forehead, and sighed, "I thought a bloody battle was inevitable today, but who would’ve thought? All bark and no bite."

Fang Zhixing laughed, "The spies the rebels set up inside the city were taken care of by the County Magistrate, so they probably knew when to back off."

Ding Zhigang agreed wholeheartedly, nodding, "The County Magistrate plans thoroughly before acting, such trifling rebels can’t turn the sky."

Then he grabbed Fang Zhixing’s arm, calling out, "Come on, let’s go to the Hanxiang Building, it’s re-opened today, and Big Brother will take you to enjoy some music."

Fang Zhixing frowned, "The Hanxiang Building, wasn’t that where Yu Lan was from? Hasn’t it been shut down yet?"

"How could it be shut down?"

Ding Zhigang shook his head emphatically, "The Hanxiang Building’s backer is Lu Anfu. He admitted his bad luck and paid a fine. The County Magistrate has always had a good relationship with Lu Anfu, so he didn’t give him much trouble."

Fang Zhixing nodded in understanding, then immediately smiled, "With nothing else today, I shall go to where music and entertainment beckon."

Side by side, the two left the County Government, mounted their horses, and rode away.

The sun was setting, casting a resplendent glow on the streets, making the cobblestones and the roof tiles shimmer with endless exuberance and rugged edges.

Clip-clop, clip-clop~

The two fine steeds arrived on Peace Street.

Fang Zhixing looked up and saw that the Hanxiang Building had once again hung up red lanterns; the street was bustling, as busy as a marketplace, all abuzz with excitement.

Few remembered that in the Hanxiang Building, there was once a girl named Yu Lan who leaned against the window, lost in thought...
