Chapter 217: Chapter 217: Zhou Hongqi Wants to Change Careers
Nan Qiao picked up paper and pen, and drew designs for two hours straight, right up until midnight.
The phone rang again; it was Hou Ze’s voice.
"Boss, it’s not good. Some damned person has been investigating your identity incessantly. They’re poking around outside, trying to figure out who Sai Huatuo is."
Nan Qiao let out a cold laugh, her frosty face filled with a murderous intent.
"It must be the person from tonight who wanted me to make poison, whom I didn’t agree to help. Let them investigate; if they can figure it out, then I, Nan Qiao, accept defeat!"
Every time Nan Qiao went out, she wore a human skin mask, so no one would know Sai Huatuo’s true face.
These people could investigate all they wanted, but they wouldn’t trace anything back to her.
Nan Qiao continued, "Don’t bother with it; let them investigate all they want. I’m curious to see if they can find anything. They won’t be able to pinpoint my identity, but we will be able to use their investigation trails to uncover theirs."
Nan Qiao’s words were a wake-up call to Hou Ze, who understood her intention.
"Boss, rest assured, I know what to do. When these sons of bitches come, they’ll find their way in but won’t be able to find their way out. We’ll make sure they can never return!"
Nan Qiao, satisfied, hung up the phone and sent the design drawings she had finished to Deng Bingying, the current person in charge of Huai Xi.
Deng Bingying sent a video back to Nan Qiao, telling her about something.
"Qiaoqiao, Liu Qing came to me asking for another chance. It’s laughable, really—she betrays the company and leaves, then joins your rival company. And now she’s contacting me, asking us to give her another chance. She really thinks too highly of herself!"
Deng Bingying was very angry, her voice filled with rage whenever she mentioned the name Liu Qing.
Nan Qiao asked, "Did you command to suppress her?"
Deng Bingying explained, "I haven’t done that; she’s long left our company and has nothing to do with Huai Xi anymore. I have no reason to repress her."
Nan Qiao replied, "In that case, tell her the truth. If she continues to spread news that is detrimental to the company, we will have to take up legal arms to protect the company’s interests."
Deng Bingying replied, "Qiaoqiao, you’re absolutely right. If I still hear any detrimental remarks about the company tomorrow, I’ll send our legal counsel to her directly! It was she who wronged the company first, and yet she has the audacity to ask us for another chance. Doesn’t she understand the principle that one breach of trust means never to be employed again?"
Nan Qiao’s tone softened considerably, and she spoke gently, "I’ll come back to the company tomorrow."
"Alright, we’re waiting for your return. I’ve prepared the books, and the proposal for the new quarter has been completed. We’re just waiting for you to finalize it."
Nan Qiao chuckled, "Bingying, you’re capable enough to handle these matters."
"Everything in its own time. The company belongs to you; I’m just an assistant. Qiaoqiao, the company’s development can’t do without your decisions."
Deng Bingying knew her place and didn’t dare overstep.
No matter what Nan Qiao said, she would always act according to her principles.
Any big decisions would wait for Nan Qiao’s input.
"I’ll take a look tomorrow; thank you for your hard work."
"It’s not hard on me; it’s you who’s had it the hardest. Over these years, you’ve been constantly busy, devoting yourself to the company. The company’s success today is all thanks to your efforts."
What Deng Bingying said was genuinely from the bottom of her heart.
She was also very grateful to Nan Qiao for giving her a new lease on life.
"You’ve worked hard as well, helping me so much. It’s been all you when I’m not at the company."
"Mr. Qiao, of course, you’re the one who’s worked the hardest. I won’t disturb your rest any longer; see you tomorrow."
After hanging up the phone, Nan Qiao packed up her things and placed all important items in a password-protected case before going to bed.
...
At the Zhou Family’s house, three people sat in the living room, anxious and uneasy.
Zhou Hongqi grumbled, "Liu Yanfang, this is all your fault. If you had been a bit more patient with Nan Qiao from the beginning and hadn’t torn your faces, our lives could have been much better. Now what? Nan Qiao is on the rise, and us? Look at what’s become of our home!"
Liu Yanfang protested, "How is this my fault! When I used to beat and scold her, you never stopped me either, did you?"
Zhou Hongqi was left speechless and vented his anger on her.
"Mom and Dad, stop arguing. It’s all my fault. If it weren’t for me finding Nan Qiao, she wouldn’t have targeted our family in a fit of anger."
Now it was too late for regrets; everything was already too late.
Liu Yanfang reasoned desperately, "If it really doesn’t work out, we can switch industries! Can’t we do something other than fashion?"
Zhou Hongqi retorted, "Like what? The pharmaceutical industry? That’s the Lu Family’s business; Lu Zhengyang is already ignoring Xiao Ya, and if we try to encroach on the Lu Family’s business, aren’t we asking for death?"
Zhou Jingya suggested, "What if you launch me into stardom and I become a star? It seems lucrative, and if I could meet Bai Jingrui, who is the richest man, wouldn’t that solve our problems? If I get to know him and be with him, would we ever lack money?"
The idea suddenly seemed feasible to both Zhou Hongqi and Liu Yanfang. If they could get Zhou Jingya into showbiz, there might be money to be made.
"I’ll inquire about it tomorrow, the entertainment industry isn’t that easy to break into. Xiao Ya, you should keep contacting Lu Zhengyang. See if our family can become an agency and work with his family. Didn’t you say Lu Zhengyang will marry no one but you? Today at the banquet hall entrance, he acted like he didn’t even see us. Xiao Ya, what’s really going on between you two?"
Zhou Jingya responded, "Dad, don’t you know, Ren Yongshi is very possessive. Anything Brother Zhengyang wants to do, if she disagrees, then it can’t proceed. I’ll go to him again tomorrow and ask for a proper explanation."
The family meeting thus dissolved once more without achieving anything.
Zhou Hongqi was tired; he had to go beg for cooperation meetings the next day.
Zhou Hongqi seemed a decade older, his spirit a shadow of its former self.
...
Bai Yurou woke up early, had the kitchen make coffee and sandwiches, and also prepared fruits to take with her.
Liu Feng watched Bai Yurou’s eager-to-please demeanor as she continued to cook.
When everyone came down for breakfast, Bai Yurou was peeling fruit.
"Dad, Mom, big brother, you’re all down. I’ve already peeled the fruits; there’s mom’s favorite kiwi, dad’s favorite watermelon, and brother’s favorite oranges."
Nan Qiao came down the elevator shortly after and heard Bai Yurou’s ingratiating voice, raised her eyebrows, and smiled wryly.
"Little sister, you’re up quite early," Nan Qiao commented with a smile.
Bai Yurou obediently replied, "Today’s my first day at work, so I thought it was better to get up early. Sister, I don’t know what fruits you like, just tell me what you want, and I’ll peel it for you."
Nan Qiao replied, "No need, I don’t eat fruit in the morning. I just need some rice and then I’ll be leaving."
Bai Yurou was silent.
Was Nan Qiao doing this on purpose?
Bai Yurou hid all her displeasure; it seemed that Nan Qiao wanted to outdo her, yet she didn’t even know what Nan Qiao was so busy with!
