Chapter 61: Dating Sim Core Unlocked

Marcus gave an irritated chuckle, casually pushing Dwayne’s hand off his shoulder. The gesture wasn’t forceful, but enough to make Dwayne stumble a step back—though the grin on his face only widened, unbothered.

"Tough guy act, huh? I’ll leave you two to it."

Dwayne’s voice held an easy-going tone, and he added a mock salute—casual, almost brotherly, the kind of gesture passed between friends who’d survived a few rough scrapes together. With that, he backed off, melting into the crowd like a shadow with a smirk.

That twat...

Marcus thought with lighthearted annoyance, brushing his fingers through the air like swatting away flies, the thoughts flitting away just as easily.

In front of him, Victoria laughed—warm and genuine—as she brought a few fingers to her lips in an effort to muffle the sound, her eyes glittering with amusement.

"Dwayne, huh...? Makes sense you’d get acquainted with him," she said, tilting her head slightly. "But how did you two get so close?"

There was a teasing note to her voice, but the smile that followed was soft—curious, not judgmental.

"It’s a long story."

Marcus shrugged, grinning as he stepped closer and reached out to ruffle her hair, tousling it playfully like she was a kid. "Let’s just say it involved a lot of blood."

"Seriously?"

She said, brushing his hand away with a flush creeping up her cheeks.

They both laughed—real, open, unguarded. The kind of laughter only two Earthlings could share in a world that wasn’t theirs. In that moment, the courtyard faded into the background, and it was just them—connected by memory, mischief, and something deeper that neither of them said aloud.

Meanwhile...

Leon and Maria stood under the shade of the tree that overlooked the courtyard. From afar, they watched the exchange in silence.

Maria’s eyes followed the duo’s interaction with a small smile tugging at her lips. There was warmth in her expression—genuine happiness at seeing Victoria slowly opening up, finding her place. It was a quiet relief, seeing her friend laugh like that.

"They seem close," Maria said softly, leaning just slightly over Leon’s shoulder. The gesture was casual—but not accidental. Her golden hair brushed against his arm as she tilted her head, trying to meet his gaze.

Leon didn’t respond at first. His blue eyes were sharp—bladed, almost—as they tracked every detail of Marcus’s posture, his smirk, the way he looked at Victoria.

"Too close," he muttered at last, voice cool and clipped.

With a subtle motion, he shifted sideways, brushing Maria aside without looking at her. There was no malice in the action, but it stung all the same—his focus completely fixated on the scene ahead. He began walking forward, slow but deliberate, making his way toward the laughing pair.

Maria stayed behind, her expression dimming like a candle in the wind.

She sighed—soft, almost imperceptible—as the weight of something unspoken settled in her chest.

Leon...

Her eyes followed Leon with a quiet ache, the realization blooming bitterly in her chest. The love she bore the prince was starting to feel like something one-sided—another plot thread she had no control over, tugged by a story that didn’t care for her endings.

"Victoria," Leon said sternly, his voice cutting through the courtyard like a blade.

It wasn’t shouted, but its clarity turned heads. Students instinctively looked over, conversation halting at the sound of the Prince’s command.

"How many times must I tell you to stay away from—"

BOOM.

Before he could finish, a sudden eruption of water exploded from the center of the courtyard—the very spot where the reassessments were being held. The blast was wild, unfocused, and utterly drenching.

Leon stopped mid-sentence, water cascading down his once-pristine uniform, his golden hair now matted and dripping.

"...What the...?"

He blinked in disbelief, turning his head slowly to see that dozens of students had also been caught in the unexpected geyser.

Not all, though.

The faculty—dry as bone—stood behind a barrier that shimmered faintly with runic protection. At the front of them, Headmaster Laurent raised a hand, smirking with mild amusement as he offered a nod of approval to the student at the center of the explosion.

Cynthia, hair soaked but standing tall with a flicker of blue mana still crackling around her, met his gaze with determined eyes.

"Reassigned to 1-A," Laurent declared, voice ringing clearly through the courtyard.

Marcus—miraculously untouched—stood just off to the side, brushing a few imaginary droplets from his shoulder with dramatic flair. Not a single drop clung to his robes.

He turned slightly, smirk already in place.

"What were you going to say, Your Highness?"

Behind him, Victoria clamped a hand over her mouth, her shoulders shaking with barely contained laughter as she struggled not to burst out.

Marcus’ smile briefly twitched.
