Chapter 16: New Appliances, Customers Arriving an Hour Early! Happy Rongshuang, A Weekend Together?!
Jiang Feng replied: “Fine. What time?”
Xu Na was at her office.
Seeing his message, she felt inexplicably relieved. “Oh, so you can reply?”
Jiang Feng ignored this.
Small talk bored him.
After waiting ten minutes, Xu Na’s mood soured again.
Can’t even spare an extra sentence for me?
“Tomorrow, 8 AM,” she sent.
Jiang Feng finally responded: “Come to my place to pick her up.”
Xu Na: “What about you?”
Facing Youyou alone made her nervous. After all, Rongshuang had spent more time with the girl than she had.
She wanted Jiang Feng there too.
He read the message and didn’t bother replying.
Divorced, and she still expects me to waste time on her?
Why?
Jiang Feng was kind but no pushover.
Xu Na’s discomfort? Not his problem.
After another ten-minute wait, Xu Na slammed her phone onto the desk.
Her secretary entered. “What’s wrong, Director Xu?”
“Poverty shrinks ambition. No dignity at all,” Xu Na muttered.
“Who are we talking about?”
Xu Na composed herself. “No one. Clear my afternoon schedule. I’m meeting someone.”
Another blind date.
Meanwhile, Jiang Feng lounged on his recliner, utterly relaxed.
His system showed 14,668 points—enough for another basic lottery draw. But he planned to save for a 100,000-point intermediate draw, hoping for advanced skills.
No rush. Business was steady.
Sunlight dappled through leaves onto the shop floor.
In this hectic city, Jiang Feng felt… weightless.
If only Youyou were here. The thought made him smile.
After a nap, he bought ingredients for the evening.
1,600 buns. 500 bowls of porridge. Any more would exhaust him. New recipes could wait.
Market vendors knew him now.
“Beef’s up 0.5 yuan today, but pork dropped 0.4. I’ll eat the difference—same price for you.”
“Got some cheap veggies today, Boss Jiang. Interested?”
He declined discounts. Saving pennies wasn’t worth compromising quality.
New appliances arrived:
Dishwasher & Sterilizer
Gree standing AC (6,000 yuan)
Summer was coming. The AC hurt his wallet—a full day’s earnings—but the upgraded shop looked professional.
“Any issues, book repairs through the brand’s official channel. If they give you trouble, call me. Hao’s friends are mine,” the installer said.
By 4 PM, while other shops stood empty, a line had already formed outside Jiang Feng’s store.
Regulars brought stools and sunhats, lounging like vacationers. Passersby gawked.
“What’s this?”
“They say the buns here are god-tier.”
“Seriously? Let’s try later.”
“Mommy, I want some too!”
The porridge needed another hour. No one complained. Customers played games, chatted, even played cards.
At kindergarten dismissal, Rongshuang glanced at Youyou.
The girl folded her arms and lifted her chin—Go on, I’m a big kid now.
Rongshuang laughed. The mannerisms were pure Jiang Feng.
After sending off most children, four remained—their parents routinely late. The nursery couldn’t refuse them (extra fees helped). Today, Rongshuang delegated supervision to another teacher.
“Let’s find Daddy!” Youyou cheered, grabbing Rongshuang’s hand.
On the way:
“Teacher, are you busy tomorrow?”
“No, just resting. Why?”
“Want to spend the whole day at Daddy’s shop with us?!”
Rongshuang’s pulse quickened. She loved the shop’s warmth—the chatter, the way Jiang Feng moved…
“Would your father agree?”
“He listens to me! I’ll cry for Grandma if he says no!”
Pedestarians whispered:
“Such a gorgeous mother-daughter pair.”
“So sweet—look how careful she is.”
“Lucky bastard who married her.”
At 5:17 PM, they arrived.
The elderly regulars lit up.
“Youyou’s back!”
“Even cuter today!”
“Matching outfits with Daddy? Adorable!”
Youyou bowed. “Thank you for supporting my dad’s business!”
“Hah! Just like her father.”
“Such good manners.”
“Who’s the beauty? His girlfriend?”
“Her teacher. Saw her yesterday too. Something’s brewing.”
“Perfect match. Marrying Boss Jiang? She’d be set.”
Rongshuang blushed but didn’t deny it.
Inside, Jiang Feng gestured to two stools by the counter—reserved for them. Her heart fluttered.
Porridge and buns were served.
“Wow! Porridge!” Youyou gulped it down. “Daddy, this is AMAZING!”
Rongshuang sipped. Her eyes widened. The best she’d ever tasted.
By 5:35 PM, everything sold out.
Grumbling customers left:
“Slept five extra minutes and missed it!”
“Tomorrow, I’m queueing at dawn!”
As Jiang Feng cleaned, Rongshuang offered help—then hiccuped, her glossy hair swaying.
He chuckled. “Can you even stand?”
She couldn’t. Two bowls of porridge. Six buns. A new record.
Youyou clutched her stuffed belly. “Daddy, I have an announcement. You can object, but no vetoes.”
“Try me.”
“Teacher Rongshuang is spending tomorrow with us!”
Rongshuang held her breath.
Jiang Feng shook his head. “Not tomorrow. Your mom’s visiting at 8 AM.”
Youyou’s face crumpled. “NO! I don’t want to see her!” Tears welled.
