Chapter 67: 67:The Muscle Head Erina
The sun was just beginning its climb over the misty ridges of the southern hills when Erina Wellington galloped through the castle gates, her armor polished and sword gleaming at her hip. Her red hair trailed like a flame behind her, and the smile on her face was anything but that of a woman going on an official mission.
"Erina!" Count Wellington’s voice boomed from the upper balcony of the estate. "You are going there to investigate! Not to have fun. Please remember that!"
"I know, I know!" Erina replied cheerfully without even turning back. "I’m just going to take a look."
Before her horse even reached full speed, she had vanished into the trees. Count Wellington let out a deep sigh, fingers pressing at his temples.
Behind him, his wife folded her arms in frustration. "She’s nothing like a woman. The goddess please helpher. She’s already thirty five and not the slightest bit interested in marriage! God knows who’ll take care of her if she keeps living unbridled like this."
The Count didn’t respond, only looked toward the heavens. "May the Goddess of Love and Fertility bless her path... and may she meet a man who can knock some sense into her."
---
Before approaching Apus, Erina had already swept through the surrounding Barony, commanding her troops with precision and ferocity.
"Move in! Shield unit forward. Archers, provide cover from the hilltop. I want those cultist camps surrounded before they can whisper another curse!" she commanded sharply, riding at the front of her squadron, her black stallion stamping furiously at the ground.
In the distance, smoke curled from the forest edge, and in a matter of seconds, shadows slithered out. Beastlings, twisted by dark rituals, pounced at the soldiers with maddened howls.
The vanguard raised their spears and met the charge head-on. Screams echoed, blood splattered the trees, and swords clashed with teeth and claws.
Erina dismounted in one graceful leap, drawing her longsword in a fluid motion. "Push through them! Target the cultists hiding behind the beasts!"
Her blade danced through the air, cutting down a mutated wolf mid-jump before cleaving through the wooden staff of a hooded figure who had begun chanting in a foul tongue.
The cultist snarled, clutching a dark talisman glowing with sulfurous light. He raised it high, aiming to unleash its curse—only to be interrupted by a radiant golden bolt.
"Divine Suppression!" one of the Church of Life’s priests called out.
A holy symbol glowed in his palm, and the black talisman exploded in the cultist’s hand. He howled in agony, falling to the ground convulsing.
"There are really cultists here," Erina muttered aloud, her brows drawn tightly together. "So the rumors were true."
Another priest stepped beside her, breathing heavily. "My goodness... Count Wellington was right. The corruption has spread deeper than we feared."
For the next twenty days, Erina led a relentless campaign. Her troops subdued beast after beast, cultist after cultist. Eighteen confirmed captures. Ten black altars were destroyed. Seven magical beasts purified and returned to the wild. The air reeked of sweat, blood, and incense.
"This is too much," she said one night, sitting on a rock while her sword was being cleaned. "I need to report all this to Father before it’s too late. If the others are ignoring it, we’ll be the only ones prepared."
After wiping out the known nests of evil, Erina directed her force to their final destination the Weiss Barony.
Of all places, it was the most puzzling. While other barons struggled even to hold their town walls, Weiss reported peace. Not only that—their troop patrols were structured, morale was high, and villagers were calm.
What truly raised her brows was how the guards she encountered were able to hold their own against beasts ranked as high as fifth or sixth. That wasn’t normal. Most barons were merely Beginner Master Knights, while only a handful had managed to reach Intermediate Master Knight.
But here? She had a strange feeling, one that had her pulse quicken for the first time in years.
She remembered her father’s words before departure"Baron Roland might be a hidden dragon among men. Watch him carefully."
Her curiosity had been piqued.
Even beyond military strategy, her personal interests had been stirred.
Erina’s tastes were... particular.
She wasn’t the delicate noblewoman her mother had wished for. She was a hardened warrior, a 7th rank knight, with scars on her arms and a gaze sharper than most blades.
She refused to settle down with a sixty-year-old general from the capital. And the younger ones? They were either weak, overly polished pretty boys, or noble sons who couldn’t last a second against her in the training yard—let alone anywhere else.
Can these boys even satisfy her in bed..
Wouldn’t their thing just be broken if she started riding.
More than once she scoffed to herself, "If he can’t even lift my sword, how’s he going to carry me?"
She had once broken a young duke’s ribs during a sparring match after he bragged about being her equal.
As far as she was concerned, looks faded. What mattered was strength and power that didn’t crack under pressure. A man who could look her in the eye and not flinch. A man who could match her, not worship her from afar.
Anyone weaker than her,can they even last in bed.Yes she was a bit bold after all marital happiness is the core part of the marriage.
If her husband can’t even satisfy her in bed what was the need of such strength..
With every beast slain on the path to Apus and every calm report from the town, the anticipation in her chest grew.
....
Meanwhile, in the flourishing but remote region of Apus Village, things had been unusually quiet. Despite a recent wave of beast tides that swept through the Kingdom of Jin, somehow, Apus had remained untouched. Villagers carried on their daily lives, unaware of the hidden dangers brewing in other territories.
According to the reports, Baron Roland had kept his lands stable and organized. Unlike other baronies where chaos reigned, his territory had shown a strange immunity. Suspicious of this, Count Wellington had ordered a thorough investigation of the southern fronts. At the helm of this effort was none other than his daughter.
By late afternoon, the banners of House Wellington came into view of Apus’s northern gates. Soldiers in neat formation marched behind her, the crimson sun casting long shadows on the cobbled path.
Erina, at the head, pulled her horse to a halt and raised her hand.
"All of you, keep alert. Just because things look peaceful doesn’t mean they are. Spread out around the village border. If Baron Roland is what they say he is, he’ll have already sensed us."
Her men nodded. Horses were dismounted, formations set.
As Erina looked over the fortified walls and watchful guards atop them, she found herself smiling faintly.
"Well then, Baron Roland Weiss..." she murmured under her breath. "Let’s see if you’re as strong as they say or if you’re just another rumour puffed up by bored people"
With that, she rode forward, her red cloak fluttering behind like a battle banner, heading straight into the heart of Apus.
