Chapter 62: 62:Taking Down The Demon Contractor

With a shout, Roland lunged forward, his greatsword humming violently, trembling under the surge of qi. With one mighty swing, he unleashed it all.

"DIE, YOU BASTARD!"

A colossal dragon of energy erupted from the blade, its roar shaking heaven and earth. The sky darkened as the golden-red beast hurtled toward the dark mage.

The necromancer’s eyes bulged. He screamed and summoned every curse, barrier, and artifact he had to prevent himself from dying.

But it was futile.

The dragon collided, engulfing the entire clearing in a cataclysmic explosion. Dirt, smoke, and shattered magic exploded outward in a shockwave that flattened everything.

Roland staggered backward, gasping.

So this... this is the true power of Berserk Dragon Technique.

He had never dared to go all out during practice but now, seeing it firsthand, he understood its might. Six-star manual... you were worth every coin.

But just as he turned to relax, Lana’s voice cut through the haze.

"He’s still alive! He’s crawling towards the forest."

Ohh.Noo..he is heading toward the altar!"

Roland’s eyes snapped toward the smoldering edge of the clearing. The necromancer’s half-burned body was dragging itself toward a black stone shrine etched in blood runes.

"He’s trying to offer his life... to strike back with a final curse!" Lana shouted.

Hell no he’s gonna let that bastard do that.

Roland’s blood boiled, qi erupting once more. He clenched his sword, blood spraying from his arm as he ignited the second wave of Berserk Dragon.

Pain burned his core, his vision blurred, but the power surged. A second dragon formed, even fiercer than the first, coiling in midair before diving like a comet.

The half-dead mage shrieked in terror.

"No! Noooo...why is a monster like you in this backwater?!"

BOOOOOOOM!

The second dragon landed with brutal finality. The altar shattered. The last remnants of the necromancer’s cursed soul were obliterated, and his scream faded into dust.

It was over.

Roland collapsed to one knee, breathing heavily, his sword clattering to the ground beside him. His body was trembling, qi completely drained.

That... took too much out of me. Even now, I use only half my strength. If I went full power... even a 10th..no, 11th rank knight might hesitate to fight me.

He looked up at the sky, drenched in sweat, heart pounding.

The battlefield returned to silence once again

Lana didn’t dare to relax. As Roland collapsed from exhaustion, she rushed forward, warily to check the corpse.

Only after confirming that the dark mage’s body was completely destroyed did she let out a soft breath. Still, she remained alert.

Sweeping the area, she found the altar,a grotesque thing made of blackened stone and blood-carved runes.

Without hesitation, she smashed it, destroying the last remnants of demonic ritual. Searching through the remains, she picked up a pouch of coins, some tattered scrolls, and a mana-imbued ring. She didn’t examine them deeply and quickly returned.

Back at the clearing, Roland was sitting against a rock, his face pale but conscious, slowly recovering his qi. Seeing her approach, he looked up.

"Is it over?" he asked hoarsely.

Lana nodded. "Yes. I destroyed the altar and cleared the remains. But I worry... someone might come searching for him. He didn’t seem like a lone actor."

Roland sighed. "Yeah... but we can’t back down now. You said they’re new. They probably don’t have anyone stronger than a 12th rank, right?"

"I suppose so," she said, though her voice was uncertain. Then she reached into her pouch and handed him the ring. "This is yours. There’s about 2000 gold coins, a hundred low-grade mana crystals, and some kind of scripture inside."

Roland blinked in surprise. "You’re giving all of it to me?"

"You dealt the final blow," she said calmly. "That makes it your loot. I only took what was necessary for inspection. Just... don’t mess around with the evil scripture. I didn’t destroy it only because I thought you might want to examine it for knowledge, not power."

Roland nodded, offering a faint smile. "Thanks. I’ll be careful."

Lana nodded, readying herself. "I should be going. I’ve been missing for too long. Before I leave, I’ll help you set up a trade channel with some Empire routes. I’ll talk to a few people."

Roland looked at her silently for a moment, then took a deep breath. He hesitated, words caught in his throat. But after a long pause, he finally spoke.

"Miss Lana... I know this may be sudden, but I need to say something."

Lana turned toward him, a little confused.

"I admire your strength. Your bravery. You carry yourself with nobility and pride. And... I’ve taken a liking to you. Also I would like to clarify that I like your behaviour, not that I like you at bottom of the heart after all we have been strangers." Roland looked into her eyes. "I don’t know if there’s a future between us. But I had to say it."

For a moment, Lana froze, her heart skipping a beat. The words hit her like a storm, unexpected, powerful, and sincere. Her expression flickered with confusion, uncertainty, and something else.

She looked away, trying to calm her thoughts.

It’s not that she hasn’t been proposed to before but this was the man who saved his life after all. Also he was good looking.

In fact, that’s why Roland dared to purpose. As someone from the modern world how can he not know.

If he was ugly this might lead to him beaten to death even if he has saved her.

After a moment, she answered, softly, "Sir Roland... you are a good man. Anyone can see that. And if I were from here, I might have... considered it." Her voice trailed.

"But I can’t. I’m a soldier of the Vandemir Empire. There are strict laws. Soldiers can’t marry foreigners or those from other regions until their service is over. I have at least ten years left."

Roland’s gaze didn’t waver. "I understand," he said quietly.

Lana bit her lip and added, "It’s not just the law. Even if I wanted to... the only way for us to be together would be if you came to Vandemir."

Silence followed. Then Roland stood slowly and stepped closer. He towered slightly over her, his gaze steady, his voice calm and warm.

"Lana... when we become Transcendent Knights, we can live for over a hundred and fifty years. What’s ten years in that time?" His breath warmed her cheek. "If we both grow stronger, who knows where we’ll stand a decade from now?"

Lana’s eyes widened. His sincerity pierced through her confusion. Her heart beat faster as she stared up at him, his presence overwhelming, yet comforting.

With a soft flush across her cheeks, she whispered, "Okay... I’ll wait."
