Chapter 1307: Chapter 1307

Allen Rivera asked the police officer driving the car to turn around and head back to the village.

"Don’t worry, the road to the village is not easy to navigate, she shouldn’t have gone far yet." Allen gently patted Jane McCain’s back, "Tell me slowly what happened."

Jane took a deep breath, calmed herself, and spoke again, "It was Fiona Lake... We saw that monkey on the street, she went after it and picked up a mask that had fallen from the monkey. Fiona said it was an important piece of evidence and told me to take the mask to the village to find you, but Juliet Stewart took the mask away!

I once read in the news that scientists, to test birds’ ability to recognize human faces, would have staff wear masks to attack different bird species. Some birds are extremely good at recognizing faces! And they also have a strong memory. Once attacked, if they see the person wearing the mask again, they will furiously retaliate!—

I suspect that every time an incident occurs, that monkey is nearby. The target the birds want to attack isn’t people at all, but the mask!"

Jane finished in one breath and looked nervously at Allen.

Before Allen could speak, the officer driving the car laughed, "Mr. Rivera, is your girlfriend also in this line of work? Her analysis is almost identical to yours."

Allen patted Jane’s head and smiled faintly, "She’s a designer, always had keen observation skills."

Jane didn’t understand, why could they still laugh?

Weren’t they worried about Juliet Stewart?

Jane stared at Allen, wanting to ask him a thousand questions, but couldn’t get a single one out.

Just then, Allen’s phone rang. He answered it, listened for a moment, then replied, "Hmm, I understand."

Allen put away his phone and said to the person in front, "Captain Adams and the others have met up with Juliet Stewart. You guys pick her up first. There’s not enough space in the car, park by the roadside, Jane and I will get off."

The car came to a steady stop by the roadside, Allen and Jane got out.

There was snow by the roadside, Jane slipped, but Allen steadied her, causing her to naturally lean forward and fall into his arms, almost as if embracing him willingly.

She heard slight laughter coming from inside the car.

"Mr. Rivera, we’re leaving now." The officer driving stuck half his head out of the car window, with a mischievous smile, while Ray Cooper in the back seat looked on eagerly at the spectacle.

Allen nodded calmly, "Mm, we’ll meet at the station shortly."

The car drove off, quickly disappearing at the end of the road.

Allen held Jane’s hand, pressing it lightly to his lips, and looked at her, "Were you scared?"

Jane hesitated, "Juliet Stewart... Is she alright?"

"With so many lives at stake, we wouldn’t take no preventive measures." Allen said, "The area near the incident is already fenced with wire fencing, the birds can’t get through, rest assured."

Jane finally understood...

So Juliet Stewart was safe.

A heavy weight lifted from her heart, she breathed a sigh of relief, yet felt an inexplicable sense of melancholy.

It’s not that she wished misfortune upon Juliet Stewart, but suddenly realizing that all the crises she had analyzed back and forth in her mind didn’t exist at all, she had worried for nothing. This feeling... this feeling was...

As if in a surreal dream.

Allen held her as they slowly walked forward, leisurely as if taking a stroll.

"I thought Fiona Lake wanted to kill me..." Jane said in a low voice, "I brought you food, and someone put cockroaches in it; I came here to see you, and my bank card and documents were all shredded; I went out to buy something, and someone pushed me into the street almost getting me hit... I gave Fiona a very expensive bottle of perfume, and she threw it in the trash. If she didn’t hate me, she had no reason to throw away the perfume."

As she spoke, she stopped walking, looked up at Allen.

"Tell me, was I really wrong about her? Was I just being paranoid? Do I... do I need to see a doctor?"

Allen looked at her in silence, then after a moment, raised his hand to wrap her in his embrace.

"You’re not sick, you’re just fine..." he sighed softly, "as good as you could possibly be."
