Fortunate to Have You This Lifetime -
Chapter 1280
Chapter 1280: Chapter 1280
Allen Rivera has an apartment in the city.
It’s about a 15-minute drive from the Prosecutor’s Office, with convenient transportation, and the Community has great greenery and environment. The residents are mostly well-off middle-class people.
He lives on the 11th floor.
As he pressed the button for the 11th floor, Allen joked to Jane McCain, "When I bought the place, the 11th-floor units were hard to sell. People called it the ’eternally single’ floor."
"And you still bought it?" Jane laughed, "Aren’t you afraid of being single forever?"
"Back then, I didn’t think being single was a big deal." Allen glanced down at her and took her hand. "But that was before I met you."
Jane pursed her lips and shyly nuzzled her forehead against his shoulder, inexplicably wanting to act coy.
The apartment was a spacious three-bedroom unit with an open layout, decorated in a minimalist Nordic style, very rational and cold in feel.
It was the quintessential bachelor pad. Jane was quite sure that besides the developer and the real estate agent, she was the second person to set foot in this place, as Allen didn’t even have a spare pair of slippers at home.
A robot vacuum cleaned the floors daily, so it wasn’t very dirty. But in the cold winter, the wooden floors were icy to walk on, which was somewhat inconvenient.
Jane hooked her arm through Allen’s and said, "The convenience store downstairs probably sells slippers. Let’s go buy a pair."
Allen thought for a moment, then changed into slippers himself and had Jane take off her boots.
Jane obediently took off her shoes.
He lifted her up, his long legs striding to the living room sofa, where he finally set her down.
"You don’t need slippers. If we need to go anywhere, I’ll carry you," Allen said.
Jane softly murmured an "okay," bending her legs and sitting on the sofa with a flushed face, looking as obedient as a gentle little lamb.
Then Allen turned on the living room TV, took some milk and drinks from the fridge, while Jane took the remote and started figuring out the process for watching pay-per-view movies.
He didn’t have a habit of storing snacks, so there was nothing for her to munch on during the movie. Yet, turning off the main lights in the living room and being in the dim, warm room, quietly sitting beside him, Jane felt that nothing could be better.
When the movie was about halfway through, Allen fell asleep.
Jane remembered his assistant mentioning the case of the raptor attacking pedestrians had turned up a new victim.
—Allen had been woken up by a phone call at 1 AM, driven hours to the crime scene, gathered information, and rushed back for a meeting to discuss the investigation’s direction. Therefore, he had barely gotten any rest over the past couple of days.
She picked up the remote and pressed the power button.
The screen dimmed and went completely black, yet Allen showed no signs of waking up.
Jane knew he was deeply asleep.
She quietly got up, walked into the bedroom with the light from the hallway wall lamp, fetched a thin blanket, and gently draped it over Allen before preparing to leave.
As she put on her shoes at the entrance, she paused.
She felt a bit embarrassed to admit...
But she knew the sound of the door opening and closing would definitely wake him. If he woke up, he definitely wouldn’t let a young, beautiful girl like her take a taxi home alone in the middle of the night.
How dangerous that would be.
But seeing how tired he was, how could she bear to trouble him to take her home?
With this subtle feeling in mind, Jane decided to stay...
Staying, however, was a bit of a hassle.
Because she came on a whim, she didn’t have any toiletries or change of clothes. Even though she had showered that morning and smelled fresh, she still needed to change into something to sleep.
The clothes she was wearing were expensive and would be ruined with wrinkles if she slept in them, making her hate herself.
Jane rummaged through Allen’s closet and finally picked out a shirt from the neatly arranged row...
Changing into the shirt, she looked at the woman in the mirror, exuding irresistible sensuality, and thought: It’s really not that I intentionally wanted to seduce him—there just weren’t any other options.
