Chapter 1240: Chapter 1240

The lawyer suggested entering a guilty plea in hopes of a lighter sentence, but Hans Geoffrey adamantly refused, insisting on pleading not guilty.

The court hearing outcome was obvious.

There was an overwhelming amount of incriminating evidence and scant exculpatory evidence. As a result, all of Hans Geoffrey’s subsequent appeals were dismissed.

Purple Summers needed to find a breakthrough if she was to appeal for Hans Geoffrey.

Having called ahead, the lawyer had already dug up case materials from six months earlier, including the full court records and all textual materials and photographs from that time.

"This case has virtually no loopholes," the lawyer said with a sigh as he spoke about the homicide from six months ago. He told Purple Summers, "The body was found in his trunk. The murder weapon was an old-fashioned razor, and the police speculated that the initial crime scene was the basement of Hans Geoffrey’s villa—a storage room where they found the victim’s hair."

"Where was Hans Geoffrey at the time?" Purple Summers asked.

With a look of helplessness, the lawyer said, "He claimed he was asleep at home. His bedroom is in the southeast corner on the second floor."

Purple Summers furrowed her brow, "Was he alone at home?"

"His wife had just become pregnant and was experiencing severe morning sickness. She had gone back to her mother’s house, and the servant happened to be on leave," the lawyer sighed. "The police speculated that he took advantage of his wife’s absence to invite a netizen over, leading to a conflict during an attempted sexual assault, which ended in the murder. He then stashed the body in the trunk, intending to dispose of it the next morning."

Purple Summers said, "But he still insists on pleading not guilty. Maybe he was indeed framed."

"Of course, anything is possible. Maybe a mysterious person intercepted Mr. Geoffrey’s chat records, knew the victim was coming over, avoided the surveillance cameras on the main road, bypassed the villa’s alarm system, and successfully snuck in. After the victim arrived, this person killed them and left undetected," the lawyer said with a helpless laugh. "But that still doesn’t explain why Mr. Geoffrey’s fingerprints were on the victim’s ring."

Purple Summers looked down at the materials and photos in her hands and said quietly, "So you also think he killed someone."

"Yes," the lawyer nodded. "Based on the evidence, his chances of innocence are... slim."

Purple Summers felt a heavy weight in her heart.

This case was truly challenging...

After meeting with the lawyer and obtaining the materials, Purple Summers went to the prison to see Hans Geoffrey.

She had applied for an appointment the day before, racing against time.

Hans Geoffrey was extremely shocked upon seeing Purple Summers. His mouth hung open, but no sound came out. However, there was finally some emotion in his lifeless eyes.

"I know you," Hans Geoffrey said as he stared intently at Purple Summers’ face, recognition mixed with disbelief. "I’ve seen you in the news. You’ve never lost a case!"

"Because the cost of failure is very high, so I try to avoid it," Purple Summers responded coolly.

She sat down opposite him, took out a stack of materials, and began the routine inquiry, "From now on, I will be your defense lawyer. Please tell me in detail what happened on the day of the incident."

But Hans Geoffrey seemed not to hear her; he continued to stare at Purple Summers with a mix of caution and hope. "Will you help me?... Do you believe I’m innocent?"

"Mr. Geoffrey, I don’t know you," Purple Summers said, looking up at him calmly. "I don’t know what kind of person you are, but I will do my utmost to defend your rights. Otherwise, I wouldn’t be here wasting my time."

Upon hearing this, Hans Geoffrey pursed his lips and remained silent.

"Can we start now?" Purple Summers asked him. "Please describe in detail what happened during the incident."

Hans Geoffrey lowered his head and said softly, "I don’t know... I was asleep. The next morning, I got up and drove to work, only to be stopped by the police. Then, everything you know happened."
