Chapter 1237: Chapter 1237: Inserting an Atra Blanc
Due to Sydney Bennett’s divorce case, Purple Summers and Alexander Summers stayed in Clearwater City for almost a month. When they finally returned to Pearlpoint City, they found that Atra Blanc had gotten a boyfriend.
Of course, this was just Purple and Alexander’s opinion.
Atra did not admit it; she repeatedly emphasized that he was just a classmate from the cooking class.
Most of the people taking the cooking class were housewives and cooking enthusiasts, with very few men. So, a tall, thin, handsome middle-aged man suddenly appearing became very popular.
Whether it was fifty-year-old ladies or twenty-year-old girls, they all loved talking to this male student. Not only because he looked more charming than the male leads in TV dramas, but also because his poor Chinese always unintentionally made people burst into laughter when he spoke.
Atra performed the best in the cooking class, while this male student performed the worst. He often sought help from Atra, and gradually, they became very familiar with each other and turned into friends who talked about everything.
Purple felt that the man must be pursuing Atra.
Otherwise, Atra wouldn’t blush shyly and look so delighted every time she mentioned him...
During lunch, everyone was eating together when Atra suddenly started chuckling.
It was an unconscious laugh, and if Purple hadn’t been watching her closely, Atra probably wouldn’t have realized she was laughing herself.
"Yesterday in class, Mrs. Jameson, the cooking teacher, was teaching us the trick to scaling fish. She said to press the fish head down with one hand and use a radish with the other..." Atra chuckled, "Then Pete quietly asked me, if the fish is already dead, how do you press its head down? Oh, I laughed so hard at that moment..."
"And the day before, he asked me why Chinese classifiers are so hard to learn. One sheep, one cow, one horse—they’re similar animals but have different classifiers. A cat is one ’zhī’ cat, but a dog is one ’tiáo’ dog. Why isn’t it one ’tiáo’ cat? Eyes and noses also have different classifiers—one ’zhī’ eye, one ’gè’ nose, one ’zhāng’ mouth, one ’tiáo’ eyebrow. Hahaha..."
Purple also laughed along after hearing it.
Encouraged by Purple, Atra continued, "Pete also said our language is strange. We have so many classifiers but not many verbs. Almost every action uses the verb ’da’! Fetch water, have a meal, make a call, take a taxi, hold an umbrella, buy soy sauce, play cards, type... He said we’re too violent. Hahaha. When he first arrived in Pearlpoint, a taxi driver asked him where he came from, where he was going, and if he needed to turn on the meter. He was completely confused."
Alexander also laughed when he heard this and added, "If a woman asked him whether he wanted a kiss, he’d freak out even more."
"Oh, stop it, you!" Atra laughed so hard she bent over, clutching her stomach.
It seemed Pete had become her source of amusement for the year.
Lunchtime ended amidst the jokes.
In the afternoon, Atra changed her clothes, tidied up her belongings, and happily went to her cooking class.
Softly coaxing the children to nap, Purple watched Atra’s lighthearted figure through the window and couldn’t help but smile, infected by her happiness.
"I haven’t seen Mom laugh like this in so long. It’s made her look a few years younger," Purple said softly.
Atra often laughed while playing with the children, but that kind of laughter was different from the current carefree joy and anticipation.
Alexander walked in from the cloakroom, adjusting the tie at his collar, looking pleased as well.
Purple asked him, "What do you think of Mom and that Pete guy?"
Alexander smiled lightly, "Not too bad."
"If you say it’s not bad, Mr. Pete must have pretty good qualities," Purple mused. "I didn’t expect Mom to fall for a foreigner."
"He’s not a foreigner, just grew up in Germany, so he’s not fluent in the native language," Alexander said. "He came back half a year ago and opened an artsy bookstore in Pearlpoint City. Although it’s been losing money, he probably took up cooking classes to add coffee and snacks to the bookstore’s offerings. But the stocks he invested in are doing quite well."
