Fortunate to Have You This Lifetime -
Chapter 1230
Chapter 1230: Chapter 1230
While colleagues were discussing, they unconsciously mentioned prosecutor Graham Burke, praising his good luck for solving two cases in one go.
The case at Wind Pavilion Garden community was handled by Graham Burke.
Allen Rivera remained silent for a long time.
The police arrest suspects based on solid evidence, not on a fixed pattern of criminal behavior. The modus operandi can only be used as a reference. What’s more, the two homicide cases were years apart, and it’s not impossible for the murderer to change their methods.
A colleague asked Allen Rivera when he would file a report to his superiors, asking twice before Allen realized what was being asked.
"No rush." Allen said, "Let’s organize the materials first and submit in a few days."
"Yeah, after all, that person has already been sentenced to death and can’t escape now." The colleague laughed.
Everyone gradually dispersed and returned to their positions to continue working.
Allen Rivera pondered for a moment and made a call to the prison, wanting to see the prisoner.
To see a death row inmate isn’t easy, especially one about to be executed. Appointments need to be made in advance, and the process takes about a day or two.
After the call, Allen looked at the materials in his hand, remained silent for a long time, and eventually set them aside, leaving them beneath other case files.
Let’s wait and see...
...
That afternoon, news came from the police station, notifying Allen to come over. The police had obtained a video that might have captured the suspect.
It was related to Melinda Johnson’s case again.
Prosecutors always follow several cases simultaneously, requiring them to stay clear-minded and have excellent stress management skills.
When Allen arrived at the police station, the investigator played the video for him.
"Melinda Johnson’s residence is in an old residential area with no surveillance cameras and no regular parking lots. We thought if the suspect carried milk over, they would either take a taxi and get off nearby or park in the surrounding lots."
The police officer pointed his pen at the video screen and continued, "Luckily, there’s a parking lot nearby, and this was captured at the exit."
A man in a navy blue-striped shirt, carrying a milk carton, slowly walked past the screen.
The video resolution wasn’t clear enough to distinguish facial features. Based on the clothing, it seemed to be a middle-aged man.
"At 1:30 PM, he walked away from here with the milk; by 2:10 PM, he returned to the parking lot. Melinda Johnson made the emergency call at 2:40 PM. The timeline matches perfectly." The officer said.
Allen asked, "Have you checked the license plate number?"
"We’re checking it."
Just as he finished speaking, another officer across the room called out, "Got it!"
Everyone gathered around the computer as the officer enlarged the information box, "The car owner is named James Johnson, 42 years old, from Hans City..."
"Wait! James Johnson... isn’t he Melinda Johnson’s father?"
The police officers looked at each other in surprise.
This result was entirely unexpected.
In the eerie silence, one officer couldn’t help but say, "It doesn’t make sense, what kind of father would go kill his own daughter?"
Another officer corrected him, "It’s an abortion case, not murder. The charges should be intentional injury, along with negligent manslaughter."
"Prosecutor Allen Rivera, are you going to arrest him now?"
Allen looked at the video screen, pondered for a moment, and shook his head.
"Call and ask him to come over, saying we need his assistance with the investigation. Don’t mention the video for now."
Allen said, pausing briefly, letting out a somewhat heavy sigh before continuing, "Once he’s here, perform a fingerprint comparison immediately."
...
Hans City isn’t far from Clearwater City, just a two-hour drive.
When Allen saw James Johnson at the police station, James was still unaware of everything that had happened. Upon seeing Allen enter, he immediately stood up and asked, "Prosecutor Allen Rivera, is there any result on my daughter’s case?"
Allen sat down in front of him, silently watching him.
An excellent criminal is usually an excellent actor. But if someone could so naturally and realistically act after personally ending their child’s life, it would be truly terrifying.
