Fortunate to Have You This Lifetime -
Chapter 1219
Chapter 1219: Chapter 1219
If it weren’t for the clues, Purple Summers wouldn’t have mentioned the Black Rose case, nor would she have needed to suddenly call at this time.
Purple Summers hesitated, then briefly mentioned Sydney Bennett’s situation to Allen Rivera.
"In the case I’m working on, the client is named Sydney Bennett. Ten years ago, she joined a chat group where everyone had a tattoo or an accessory related to the Black Rose. Sydney Bennett has a Black Rose tattoo on her left arm."
Purple paused for a moment, then continued, "I’m not sure if this is a clue, but I’d feel uneasy if we didn’t check it out..."
Information flashed through Allen’s mind, and he said, "Okay, I’ll arrange for someone to look into it."
"It’s best to hurry because Sydney Bennett is planning to go abroad soon, and the clues might be lost at any moment."
"Mm." Allen responded, "Got it."
After hanging up the phone, Allen restarted the car, his grip on the steering wheel momentarily pausing.
He frowned, feeling a bit puzzled. The first victim of the Black Rose had a tattoo on their arm, but this information hadn’t been disclosed to the public. How did Purple Summers know?
Then he thought, it’s possible Purple Summers has her own information channels now, given her familiarity with many prosecutors...
The phone rang again, this time regarding a plea bargain response for another case. Allen’s thoughts returned to his chaotic workload, and he didn’t dwell on the irrelevant issues...
Back in the office, after handling some procedural case files, Allen brought up the Black Rose case file to review.
A colleague passing by his desk glanced over and couldn’t help but ask, "Looking into this case again?"
An old unsolved case, it got reviewed periodically. Clues led to new investigation assignments, while the lack of clues caused further backlog.
"It was initially classified as a serial murder case because four victims turned up in succession, but it was later discovered that two of them were copycat crimes. Can you still call it a serial murder case?" The colleague flipped through the files, casually grumbling, "Apart from the bathtub filled with rose petals, the scene is so clean you can’t find a single trace. No fingerprints, no hair, no skin tissue. How do you investigate from there..."
Allen raised the photo in his hand, "I want to take a look at the tattoos, we didn’t check them before."
"Oh, the tattoo on the first victim," the colleague leaned in for a closer look, "Is there any connection? The second victim didn’t have any tattoos."
Precisely because there was no obvious connection, the tattoos were initially considered coincidences.
You often see people with dragon head tattoos, tiger, or skull tattoos on the street. Rose tattoos are even more common.
Allen pondered for a moment and searched for the second victim’s photos.
If what Purple said is correct, all these people came from the same chat group. Even if the second victim didn’t have a tattoo, they should have a Black Rose accessory.
While Allen was looking through the files, his colleague had not left yet and asked, "Weekend is coming up, how many cases do you have left? How about playing some basketball on Saturday and Sunday?"
"No, I still have three cases..." Allen paused for a moment and continued, "Make that four. One’s an accidental injury that just reached a plea bargain, a theft case going to trial next week, a drug trafficking case, and one that was just assigned today involving a 17-year-old girl who died from a botched abortion."
The colleague listened and shook his head with a bitter smile, "What a load of crap..."
In their line of work, they dealt almost exclusively with the darkest, most negative aspects of society. Bringing criminals to justice brought a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction, but when a case remained unsolved, the accumulating pressure was beyond words.
