Chapter 563: Extra Scene 2 Luo Yun 2

After Mrs. Luo finished her reminders, even though she didn’t get a response from her daughter, she still wore a satisfied expression. If she kept reminding her daughter daily, some of it would surely seep through. Her son-in-law was also trying hard to reconcile, which would eventually soften her heart.

Alas, if her daughter’s issue could be resolved, she could rest in peace even in death.

At this point, someone reported that Mrs. Song from Xiangluo Village had arrived with her bleeding grandson. Upon hearing this, Luo Yun quickly rose and headed to the Outer Court.

These days, Luo Yun, apart from serving Mrs. Luo and playing with her grandchildren, also treats the villagers’ illnesses free of charge.

Her medical skills were not highly advanced, she could only treat minor colds and non-severe external injuries. These minor ailments were often endured by the villagers, reluctant to spend money on doctors. Most people could bear it, but a minority with weaker bodies kept getting worse, especially among the old and young.

Now, these people can finally receive treatment without having to pay. The villagers were extremely grateful for "Mrs. Luo," praising her as a living Bodhisattva.

Since she was only treating minor illnesses, she used a lot of herbal medicine. She bought herbs collected by medicine collectors or villagers, and occasionally ordered higher quality medicinal materials from the county town. Occasionally, she would also lead a few people to Honglin Mountain to gather medicine.

Mrs. Song’s grandson, Doggie, was playing with the other children and got his head hit with a stone. Blood flowed from Doggie’s head and mixed with his tears on his face. When he wiped his face with his hands, both his hands and face were covered in blood, which was extremely frightening. If it had been someone else, they would have consulted the village doctor, who was not only nearby but also had better skills.

But Mrs. Song’s family was poor and used to saving money, so they brought her grandson to Tang Garden instead.

Luo Yun immediately rinsed Doggie’s wound with cool boiled water. The wound was quite long and couldn’t be stopped from bleeding even using crushed hemostatic grass, and all the good medicine they had before was already used up.

Luo Yun became anxious and said, "The wound is too large, and the herbs here can’t stop it..."

Upon hearing this, Mrs. Song started to sob.

At this moment, Manager Chu from Chu Guangche’s entourage arrived and handed Luo Yun some pills, explaining, "Our master asked me to deliver this medicine to stop the bleeding. If you dissolve and apply it to the wound, it might work."

Chu Guangche happened to be walking outside Fu Garden and saw that the child’s injury was quite severe and feared that Luo Yun’s medicine wouldn’t be enough. Being a military officer, he always kept trauma medicine on hand, so he sent Manager Chu to deliver it.

Luo Yun had refused Chu Guangche’s delivered medicine many times before, but in this emergency, she accepted. When she dissolved the pills and applied them to the wound, the blood indeed stopped. Luo Yun also applied some wound-healing medicine and bandaged Doggie’s head.

Mrs. Song was very grateful.

After they left, a servant reported that Mrs. Luo had gone to Fu Garden to play and decided to have lunch there because she was enjoying herself. For lunch, Yu’er and Yu usually ate in Fu Garden, while they often ate dinner in Tang Garden.

With her grandchildren not at home and her mother gone too, Luo Yun took the headscarf she made for her mother and went to Lu Garden to join Mrs. Wang in sewing.

She was particularly afraid of being alone now, afraid of having no one around. If she were the only person in the house, the seclusion she felt in the nunnery would come back in waves, a feeling she disliked very much.

So, whenever her mother and grandchildren were not home, and there were no sick people, she would call Manager Luo and Madam Luo, whom she had grown up with, to chat. Since Manager Luo went to Dingzhou and Madam Luo had gone to Beijing to visit her children and grandchildren a few days earlier, she could only go to Lu Garden.

Mrs. Wang was about the same age as Luo Yun and they were relatives by marriage; hence, they had a lot in common to talk about. Mrs. Wang often came to visit Tang Garden, making her Luo Yun’s only friend there.

What Luo Yun didn’t know was that Mrs. Luo had invited Mrs. Wang over multiple times in private, not only because the Chens were relatives, but also because Mrs. Wang was "enlightened". Despite her many misfortunes, she now lived a very happy and content life. Before he left, Chen Afu also asked Mrs. Wang to speak to Luo Yun more often, hoping she could indirectly enlighten Luo Yun.

As Luo Yun stepped out of Tang Garden, an expansive wheat field lay before her, shimmering even more golden under the autumn sun. Heading north, she could hear the laughter of children coming from Fu Garden even before she reached it, along with the chirping of birds and occasionally, the hearty laughter of Mr. Chu.

Granny Luo came from a family of military officers, which made her quite hearty. Her father and Mr. Chu’s father were distant relatives and good friends, so she was very familiar with Mr. Chu in her youth. Besides, the countryside didn’t care for formalities, hence, Granny Luo saw no problem in leaning on her wicker chair and visiting Fu Garden.

Upon hearing these familiar sounds, Luo Yun’s heart gave a painful squeeze. All her loved ones were in that courtyard, but she couldn’t walk in and join them.

Not that she couldn’t, she just couldn’t bring herself to take that step.

She yearned for familial affection, warmth, and that man at such a distance it felt like another lifetime... She knew if she could suppress her resentment just a little bit, become a little softer, not be so obstinate, she could have everything she wanted. She would be as satisfied and happy as Mrs. Wang, giving peace of mind to her elderly mother and her children.

But, she just couldn’t bring herself to it.

As she passed the gate of Fu Garden, she saw from the corner of her eye that it was open. She hastily walked past it, but still caught sight of a group of children surrounding her mother-in-law ensconced in her chair.

Seven Seven, the eagle-eyed one, saw her and called out loudly to his "grandma." Chu Guangche abruptly looked towards the gate but only saw a glimpse of an amber skirt whisking by.

Chu Guangche rushed to the gate and, suppressing his voice, called out, "Yun’er."

Luo Yun’s footsteps faltered slightly, but she continued to walk on.

Taking a few steps forward, Chu Guangche called again, "Yun’er."

Luo Yun stopped, but did not turn around.

Chu Guangche said, "Yun’er, we’re now neighbors, you can visit the neighboring house if you wish. If you don’t want to see me, I’ll go to the backyard."

Pushing back the tears in her eyes, Luo Yun hurried towards Lu Garden.

Stunned, Chu Guangche watched her figure disappear into Lu Garden. From behind him, he heard the excited voice of Yu’er, "Grandpa, Grandma spoke to you! Is she not angry anymore? Oh, that’s great!" She then tugged at Chu Guangche’s clothes and mumbled, "Write a letter to mom."

Chu Guangche turned around, laughed heartily, and lifted Yu’er up, saying, "You little clever one." He then whispered in her ear, "Grandma is still angry. But, it will get better gradually."

Seeing Luo Yun arrive, Mrs. Wang was very happy and invited her to sit on the bed, saying, "I just came from Fu Garden. I heard Mrs. Luo is staying there for lunch. Have it with me in my house, it’ll be fun with just the two of us since my husband is away in the county town."

Luo Yun happily accepted the invitation and laughed, "I’m imposing on you then."

Laughter from next door occasionally wafted into the courtyard through the window, warming up the otherwise quiet courtyard. The loudest voices belonged to Mr. Chu and Yu’er, with the occasional hearty laughter of Mrs. Luo.
