Chapter 560: Chapter 551: I Want You
At the junction, Manager Luo and Madam Luo were awaiting their arrival alongside Chu, the esteemed servant of the Marquis, and Aunt Mu.
A procession of carriages arrived at the entrance of Tang Garden, where they did not stop. Instead, they pushed ahead to Fu Garden. Their intention was twofold; to first meet the old marquis, and then to bring the old master to this place.
The old Marquis stood by the entrance of Fu Garden and helped the old master descend from the carriage. He greeted Prince He with a fist and bow salute, which the prince graciously reciprocated with a bow.
The crowd entered Fu Garden to find it burgeoning with flowers in full bloom, their vibrant colors a feast for the eyes. Additionally, dozens of birds sang a harmonious symphony beneath the gallery...
Many times, Chen Afu dreamt of this place in his midnight reveries. Today, he had finally returned, his eyes brimming with emotion. Prince He and Chu Hanyan were equally moved, as this place evoked scores of pleasant memories for them.
Entering the main house, the old masters took their seats of honor. Chu Lingxuan, his wife and children gave their salutations, and the two mothers even carried Li and Zhu’er to give kowtows to him.
Once the salutations concluded, Yu’er set aside her minor grudges towards her grandfather. She ran a few steps and climbed onto the old Marquis’s knees, offering him a soft spoken explanation, "Grandpa, since you did not come to visit Yu’er, Yu’er came to see you. Yu’er missed you so much, did you miss Yu’er too?"
The soft-spoken words of his tiny granddaughter sparked a joyful smile in the old Marquis, hearty laughter pouring from him. It was the first time he had laughed so heartily since arriving in the countryside.
He replied, "Yes, Grandpa missed all of you very much, especially Grandpa’s little Yu’er."
Hearing her grandfather’s sweet response, Yu’er’s eyes curved into joyful crescents. She tried to please him further by saying, "My siblings and I will ask grandma to return home together. If she still refuses, my sister and I will cry for her. My sister’s cry is really pitiful. It’s even more heart-breaking than mine..." Her ceaseless chatter elicited laughter from everyone present.
Everyone had lunch in Fu Garden, inviting Chen Ming, Mrs. Wang, and Chen Alu to join them.
Afterwards, Chu Lingxuan and Chen Afu, accompanied by Li and Zhu’er, returned to Tang Garden for a rest. Prince He, Chu Hanyan, Yu, Ming and Yu’er, all ran off to the children’s playground. Jin Yanzi led the Animal House group directly to Honglin Mountain. Accompanying them were Wang Cai and his family.
Mrs. Wei and Qiu Yue returned with Prince He, as he had granted them a leave of absence. He allowed Mrs. Wei to reunite with her family under Manager Luo, whilst Qiu Yue was allowed to reunite with her family in Wangshan Village. Qiu Yue was now betrothed to a record-keeping military officer surnamed Li from the royal mansion, with the wedding set for the year’s end. General Xiao Li visited her parents with her.
Over sixty guards were scattered and accommodated in the servants’ quarters of various gardens. The remaining thirty or so guards who were unable to find accommodation, had to stay at villagers’ homes in Shangshui Village. The protectors from the Luo family also had to stay at the villagers’ homes.
Being the flowering season for begonias, every corner of Tang Garden was graced by the presence of beautiful pink flowers.
Both Chu Lingxuan and Chen Afu had no mind to appreciate the scenic beauty, as Manager Luo had informed them of the arrival of a message from the Inspection Mansion earlier that morning. The message stated that Mrs. Luo, Mrs. Luo Sr., Mr. Luo and Granny Luo would likely arrive at Tang Garden by late afternoon the following day.
Chu Lingxuan quickly left to visit Liao Chen at Yingxue Nunnery, and also to inspect the road conditions. If the mountain roads were not in good condition, they would require some minor repairs. After all, Mrs. Luo was in frail health and not good with jolts. Of course, he wouldn’t mention to Liao Chen about Mrs. Luo’s forthcoming visit or any news concerning her children. Nor would he allow Manager Luo to tell her in fear that Liao Chen would prepare excuses for herself or attempt an escape upon being unable to cope.
Chu Lingxuan deeply regretted the fact that Chu Hua and her child could not come this time, as Chu Hua was pregnant again.
Meanwhile, Chen Afu busied himself with arranging accommodation for the Luo family and catered to reception affairs. Despite Manager Luo’s preparations, Chen Afu was obliged to ensure everything was in order.
Tang Garden was not very big. Yiran Residence, where Chu Hanyan used to live, was allotted for Mrs. Luo and Mrs. Luo Sr. Jin Courtyard, where Chen Dabao used to stay, was reserved for Mr. Luo and Granny Luo.
Chen Afu and his wife, along with Chu Hanyan and Shuangshuang, settled in Yanxiang Residence. Prince He, along with Shuangshuang, and Yu’er were assigned to Fu Garden. However, upon Prince He’s insistence, they were shifted to Lu Garden, to which Chen Afu agreed.
By nightfall, Chen Alu once again requested Chen Afu and his family, along with the old master and his sons, and Prince He, to join him for a "casual meal" at Lu Garden.
After dinner, when dusk hadn’t yet completely turned into darkness, Prince He wished to visit the old house in Xiangluo Village. Chen Afu decided against it, proposing that they go together another day. For the time being, it was late and the ensuing day was going to be busy.
