Chapter 438: Chapter 431 Good News
Apart from the first two days when Chen Afu came back, Chu Lingxuan got busy again.
As per Chu Lingxuan’s views, now Third Prince had become the emperor’s favourite and Second Prince’s party seemed to no longer have spare energy to keep an eye on Ninth Prince and the Chus. The Chus needed to hastily establish their power, and resolve the matter regarding Wang Cheng quickly, eliminating the Second Prince’s influence in the Western Region. This kind of good thing was something that Third Prince’s party would certainly be happy to help with...
Chen Afu was counting the days on his fingers, praying that the Third Master would stay safe during this time. He was anxiously hoping for the arrival of the 26th day, for Jin Yanzi to come out faster. Once Jin Yanzi was out, the Third Master would have an additional layer of protection.
Jin Yanzi said that the divine medicine in the Third Master’s hand contained green swallow’s nest. Once Jin Yanzi left, she could sniff out the smell and quickly locate the Third Master’s position. She also mentioned that when she was looking for the tricoloured orb, she had been to Liaozhou, so she was fairly familiar with the terrain...
She requested for five little spots of Agarwood Leaf from Jin Yanzi again, with the unit of measurement still being eye boogers. They were placed separately into the pillows of Dabao, Ms. Chu, Alu, Li Xuan, and Chu Lingzhi. If Marquis Chu returned to Dingzhou Mansion, Chu Lingzhi would still come out of respect. Chen Afu liked this child a lot. He was bold and appealing and of course, he hoped that he could become smarter and healthier too.
On the evening of the 24th, Chu Lingxuan, who hadn’t been seen for two days, appeared again. He looked relaxed, with a smile at the corners of his lips.
Chen Afu laughed and said, "Looking at you, it seems like you’ve received some good news?"
Chu Lingxuan nodded. When the servants were not around and Ms. Chu was busy playing with her younger brother, Chu Lingxuan quickly kissed Chen Afu.
When he acted this way, it indeed seemed like he had some good news. Chen Afu also smiled.
Chu Lingxuan whispered, "Father has sent word. Master Gui Ling has arrived at the Epidemic Area. His medicine is very good and with this medicine, the disease in the Epidemic Area should be controlled very soon..."
This news was relayed on the 18th of February. In other words, Third Master was safe till the 18th.
There were only two days left, or rather one day and three hours till Jin Yanzi could come out. As long as Third Master could hold on from the 18th till now, and further till the morning of the 26th, he would be fine.
Finally, on the night of the 25th, Chu Lingxuan didn’t return and Chen Afu led the two little boys to the space again.
The two little boys were already asleep. Chen Afu was talking to Jin Yanzi, who was standing in her palm.
Both the person and the swallow were extremely excited, eagerly awaiting midnight.
Jin Yanzi chirped, "If Daddy Chu’s uncle hasn’t met with an accident, I will be able to find him by tomorrow morning as soon as I am out. If something happened to him earlier, there’s nothing I can do." saying this, she shrugged her little neck.
Once the little creature went out, regardless of how Third Master was doing, at least his whereabouts and news could be quickly known.
Chen Afu whispered, "I hope the Third Uncle can hold on till you find him. Only when you find him, can I completely relax." She stroked it’s feathers and said, "Baby, thank you. I am fortunate because of you. My family’s fortune can change for the better because of me. Regardless of whether it is the divine medicine or the medicine for the epidemic, and many many other things, all of them have needed your help."
Jin Yanzi smiled, triumphantly rising on her tip toes, and chirped, "I like Mommy too, even more than my previous master."
These words deeply moved Chen Afu. She picked it up and kissed its little head, saying with a smile, "Baby really knows how to sweet talk. Mommy loves to hear that."
Suddenly, Jin Yanzi shouted, "The time has come, I need to go." After saying this, she flew to the bed and pecked Jin Bei, then circled around the two little boys in the air and disappeared.
Finally, it was midnight.
Chen Afu heaved a huge sigh of relief, and silently hoped that the Third Uncle could hold on as his little helper was on the way.
She came to the bedside and was about to take the brothers out of the space, when she noticed a green light flashing from the golden shell on Ming’s body. This bewildered Chen Afu; she had seen it flash red and gold before, but why was it flashing green today?
She quickly picked it up; the golden shell was icy cool. She exclaimed in surprise, "Oh, what’s wrong with Beibei?"
All of a sudden, an incredible scene unfolded; a tear actually trickled from the eye of the golden shell. The tear fell into Chen Afu’s palm, as cold as an ice shard.
The golden shell was crying, it was upset!
Chen Afu was both startled and overwhelmed, she hurriedly stroked its back and comforted it, "Beibei, do you miss the babies? Don’t cry, the babies will come back to see you soon." Then she said, "You not only have the babies, but also mommy and brothers Yu and Ming. We will all be with you."
The golden shell seemed to understand her words; the green light gradually disappeared, and its body slowly warmed up again.
Chen Afu stayed with the golden shell for a while before deciding that it was time to feed the babies. She placed the golden shell back onto the little bed, then brought the whole little bed out of the space.
Arriving in her bedroom, she lit a candle, fed the baby brothers and cleaned up their mess. They were almost five months old now and needed only one feeding in the night. For ease of moving in and out of the space, she had stopped permitting her mother and maids to enter and assist her awhile back.
Perhaps due to the exceptionally healthy constitution of the baby brothers, they never threw a tantrum. After nursing in a sleepy state, they fell back asleep. Chen Afu sent the baby brothers into the space to keep Beibei company and retired in her own bed in the bedroom.
At dawn, she got up and brought the baby brothers out of the space.
With Dabao leading the Zhui Feng family over for breakfast, the main home became lively once again.
After breakfast, she walked Dabao out of the courtyard.
Only when Dabao’s figure had completely disappeared from her sight did Chen Afu look up at the azure sky. As the sun rose in the east, morning glow covered half the sky, and every now and then, a bird or two would whisk by.
By now, Jin Yanzi should have found the Third Prince, right?
That day, Chen Afu was waiting anxiously from dawn to dusk. However, Jin Yanzi did not return.
Chu Lingxuan didn’t return either. After dinner, Chen Afu sat in the corridor, sometimes looking at Yu and Ming in the baby carriage, sometimes looking up at Dabao, Li Xuan, and Yan’er playing in the yard with their Animal House.
Ms. Chu had officially started taking etiquette lessons from Mrs. Huang. Though she was still having fun, she was no longer as boisterous as before.
Mrs. Huang had initially demanded that the girl learn to be prim and proper like a young lady and not run around playing with boys. Chen Afu knew that Mrs. Huang wanted what was best for the girl. Ms. Chu didn’t come from a royal background like the Third Lady and couldn’t afford to be as carefree.
However, empathizing with how difficult it was for girls in ancient times, Chen Afu tried to persuade Mrs. Huang otherwise. She said that the girl was not even seven years old yet, had no other sisters at home, and was used to her own casual upbringing. Put under stringent restrictions all of a sudden, the girl might find it hard to adjust, they should take it slow. Moreover, she specifically stressed, though it would be good to guide the girl to be more ladylike, there was no need to be overly precise.
By this time, the setting sun bathed everything in a warm glow.
Chen Afu’s face appeared to be smiling, but the urgency in her heart was torturous.
All of a sudden, Chu Hanyan ran over and said, "Mommy, Sister ... " She glanced at Mrs. Huang beside her and quickly corrected herself, "Mommy, I think I smell Jin Bao’s scent under that tree." She pointed at the pomegranate tree on the right.
Mrs. Huang said that since she was almost seven years old, she should stop referring to herself as "Sister" and instead use "I."
