Chapter 334: Chapter 333: Brother and Sister Meet

Mrs. Jiang looked at Chen Yuhui and asked, "Yuhui, are you ill? If you are feeling unwell, you should rest. We can bring a doctor to check on you."

Chen Yuhui quickly replied, "Mother, I am perfectly fine." After she finished speaking, she forced down her irritation and relaxed her facial expression.

Everyone chatted and laughed for a while before heading to Hua Hall for a meal.

Upon leaving the main room, Mrs. Jiang stopped and cheerfully said to Chen Yuhui, "Yuhui, I need to talk to you..."

Two tables were set in the hall. One for Chen Shiying, Chu Lingxuan, Chen Yulan and the other for Mrs. Jiang and several ladies. They were all family, so there was no need for a shield.

Once everyone was seated, Chen Shiying noticed only Mrs. Jiang entered and inquired, "Where is Hui’er? Let her come quickly. My son-in-law and Fu’er are eager to eat and continue their journey."

Mrs. Jiang laughed and said, "A moment ago, a servant came to say granny wanted to see Yuhui, so I let her go. Let’s eat first."

Chen Shiying nodded upon hearing the news, picked up his chopsticks, and signaled, "Let’s eat."

Chen Shiying and Chu Lingxuan had a bit of wine. Chu Lingxuan didn’t drink much since he needed to ride a horse afterward.

After the meal, Chen Afu and Chu Lingxuan said their goodbyes and headed directly towards the city gate.

After Chen Afu and the others left, Mrs. Jiang sent her other children away and then said to Chen Shiying, "Old master, Yuhui is young and naive. We should keep a close eye on her before her marriage. Otherwise, it could harm the other children." As she finished speaking, her eyes reddened.

Chen Shiying was taken aback and asked, "What do you mean?"

Mrs. Jiang replied, "Didn’t you notice that Hui’s words just now were inappropriate?"

Chen Shiying thought for a moment, his face darkened, and he asked, "You’re afraid Hui’er would do something disgraceful?"

Mrs. Jiang noticed Chen Shiying was unhappy. Considering Yuhui was his biological daughter, it wouldn’t be right to vilify her too much, as it might damage his dignity. She rushed to explain, "Master, you are too dedicated to your official duties to notice the intrigues within the household. I’ve heard of some concubines in our manor who’ve behaved disgracefully in order to climb up the social ladder. I’m not sure if Hui would really act that way, but it’s always good to be cautious, for her sake and for the other children."

Chen Shiying nodded and said, "Exactly. Regardless of whether she really has such thoughts, you should keep an eye on her..."

Chen Afu and Chu Lingxuan arrived outside the city where Li Xuan and Wang Cheng’s family were already waiting.

Chen Afu had Mrs. Wei holding Li Xuan toward her carriage. The little one had already fallen asleep in Mrs. Wei’s arms. Jin Yanzi, who has always been attached to Li Xuan’s clothes, saw Chen Afu arrive and chirped, "I’m going into the woods to admire the vast sky and earth. I’ll come back later to see stinky Dabao and little Yanyan."

A black light flashed, and she soared into the sky.

As dusk approached, a caravan of carriages finally arrived on the small road of Shangshui Village. The people in the carriages opened their curtains to look at the three courtyards in the distance—one large and two small.

Wang Cheng heard Luo Yuan outside the carriage mentioning the northernmost small courtyard being Lu Garden and how his sister and her family lived there. He couldn’t help but burst into tears. His crying was so loud that even Chen Afu, who was in the front carriage, could hear it and felt tears well up in her eyes.

At that moment, two parrots, one big and one small, flew from the sky. They circled above the carriages then dove into Chen Afu’s carriage. They climbed onto Chen Afu’s leg and began to cry. One had Dabao’s voice, and the other had the voice of Miss Chu. Most notably, both their voices were hoarse.

"Woo... woo... Auntie... Dad..."

"Ah... ah... ah... Mom... Mom..."

Hearing these two cries, Chen Afu’s tears fell. She wondered how much the two children had cried while she was away.

She hugged them both, comforting them, "It’s okay, it’s okay, my little darlings, didn’t I come back?" Seeing Li Xuan and Mrs. Wei looking at her blankly, she wiped her tears and explained, "These are my family’s two parrots. The small one is Qi Qi and the big one is Hui Hui."

Then she introduced Li Xuan to Qi Qi and Hui Hui, "Look at this. Our family has a new member. His name is Xuanxuan."

Qi Qi and Hui Hui stopped crying, looked up, and said, "What? We didn’t hear clearly."

Chen Afu said it slower, "Xuan... xuan... xuan."

They both immediately began to chant, "Xuanxuan, Xuanxuan, Xuanxuan..."

This surprised Mrs. Wei, causing her mouth to drop open, and Li Xuan stood still, staring at them.

At this moment, the caravan arrived near a small grove not far from Tang Garden. Wang Cheng saw his sister, Mrs. Wang, and his brother-in-law, Chen Ming, rushing towards him followed by Alu, Dabao, and Chu Hanyan, who were running to meet the carriages.

Mrs. Wang received a letter from Chen Afu a few days ago, stating that Uncle Wang Cheng had been found and would probably return to the village on the 28th. Overwhelmed with emotion, she had cried daily, wishing she could see her brother immediately.

Today, she began waiting for him on the road since morning. She hurriedly went back to Lu Garden for a quick meal, then returned again to wait for her brother into the evening, when a caravan of carriages finally arrived. Dabao, Alu, Miss Chu, and the other children only arrived to wait with Mrs. Wang after they had finished school.

The carriages stopped, and Wang Cheng’s family, along with Chen Afu and the others, alighted.

Wang Cheng knew that the woman running at the front had to be his sister, so he cried and ran to meet her.

Wang Cheng stood still in front of Mrs. Wang, and they both stared at each other for a few moments. Their similar eyebrows and eyes confirmed they were indeed the sister and brother who had been anticipating this reunion.

Mrs. Wang reached out a hand to touch Wang Cheng’s cheek, sobbing, "Are you my little brother? Are you Chengzi?"

Wang Cheng responded through his tears, "Sister, I’m your little brother, I’m Chengzi. I’ve always remembered that my sister called me ’little brother’. I’ve always remembered my sister’s name is ’Jianniang’. I never forgot even for a moment."

Upon hearing his words, Mrs. Wang embraced Wang Cheng and wept openly. Wang Cheng clung to Mrs. Wang, crying uncontrollably while the others sobbed.

After crying for a while, Mrs. Wang, still holding Wang Cheng’s face, sobbed, "I think about and miss you every day. Finally, you’re back. Now, I can face our mother."

All Wang Cheng could do was keep sobbing and calling out to his sister.

When Mrs. Wang saw Wang Cheng’s hand, which only had half a thumb left, she cried even harder, "Poor little brother, what have you gone through? How did this happen to you..."

Wang Cheng cried and reassured her, "Don’t be sad, sister. My hand was injured over a decade ago. It doesn’t hurt anymore..."

Chen Afu, who was held by two "little burdens" and couldn’t get away, wanted to comfort Mrs. Wang. Chu Lingxuan stood aside, feeling neglected. He called out to his daughter several times, but she ignored him, only clinging to Chen Afu and crying.

Especially Dabao, who cried as sadly as Mrs. Wang and Wang Cheng. He kept saying, "Mother, why did you come back so late? I missed you every day. I thought you didn’t want me anymore, I thought after you got married, you would never want me again..."

All Chen Afu could do was explain, "Your mother will never abandon you. Your mother missed you too..."
