Chapter 249: Chapter 248: It’s Him Who Didn’t Propose

Marquis Chu, Mrs. Chu, Chu Lingxuan, Chu Hanyan, and Chu Lingzhi were all present, but for some reason, Abbot Liao Chen did not make an appearance. Surprisingly, the Seventh Prince, Li Zeyin, had also come along.

Chen Afu had a deep disdain for him. That shameless man, once harassed her in broad daylight, causing her to seek refuge at the Chu residence, and had the audacity to later demand her from the Chus. Having done so many disgraceful things, he still had the nerve to show up at her home.

Moreover, Dabao was present, and Afu was uncomfortable with him being looked at by individuals with unclear intentions. She felt her hands getting sweaty as she held Dabao’s hand.

But she couldn’t just send Dabao away now. So she plucked up her courage to approach them. She curtsied towards the group, laughing and saying, "Honoured guests gracing us with your presence, the magpies in our trees had been chattering happily since early morning."

To echo her sentiment, all the birds - both from surrounding trees and cages - began to chirp together, creating a lively atmosphere.

Mrs. Chu laughed heartily and said, "Oh dear, Xuan’er and Yan have been telling me about how beautiful and aromatic Fu Garden is, how scenic the views. It is truly a garden filled with splendid flowers, birds singing sweet tunes, and fragrant scents everywhere." Pointing towards the Seventh Prince, she continued, "Afu, please let bygones be bygones, I have already scolded him, he won’t dare behave like that again."

The Seventh Prince opened his fan, saying, "Ms. Chen, please accept my apologies for my previous rude behavior. Little did I think that you are General Chu’s betrothed, my niece by marriage, and also... my older sister’s..." He was about to say "daughter-in-law", but upon realizing the disdain the Chus held for Rong Zhao, he hastily cut himself off. After a pause, he continued laughing and said, "Well, it’s like the temple flooded by its own dragon; even kin don’t recognize each other."

His thundering laugh dispelled the previous gloominess, brightened up his face a bit more too. It seems he had another side to him too; such a contradiction.

Before his laughter even subsided, a little swallow circling over their heads began to chirp loudly, sounding very much like an irritated sparrow. It was Jin Yanzi who exclaimed, "Oh my God! Mommy, this is the man who went to Gui Ling for treatment, it’s him who’s impotent. If he can’t get it up, why snatch a woman? Just looking without doing anything? Oh, it’s simply unimaginable..."

Chen Afu suddenly felt like crows were flying past her face.

So, he was impotent! Why would such a man who couldn’t even perform still steal women? Was it to assert his masculinity, or some psychological perversion?

She forced down her surprise, curtsied towards him again, and stayed silent. She couldn’t bring herself to pretend his previous actions didn’t matter.

Chu Hanyan ran over and hugged Chen Afu around the waist, saying, "Auntie, I’ve missed you." As she spoke, tears began to well up in her eyes.

Chen Afu picked her up and laughed, "Auntie missed you too."

Mrs. Chu, pointing to the two of them, laughed and said, "Father, look at them, they resemble mother and daughter so much. Truly, such a bond must have been formed in a past life."

Marquis Chu stroked his beard and laughed heartily, causing Chen Afu to blush.

What Chen Afu didn’t notice was, the moment they had entered, Chu Lingxuan had pulled Dabao over to him. He was whispering something to the boy, but mainly he was positioning Dabao so that his back faced the Seventh Prince. Throughout the visit, Chu Lingxuan was deliberately making sure that Dabao was either facing away from the Seventh Prince or he was blocking their line of sight.

Seeing Dabao, Marquis Chu was even more excited than when he first met the boy. He had misunderstood his eldest son all along...

Chu Lingzhi ran over and tugged on Chen Afu’s sleeve, "Sister Chen, Yan told me that the toilets in Fu Garden are amazing, shaped like pumpkins and chili peppers. I can’t wait to see them, I really need to pee."

That comment amused everyone.

Chu Hanyan, not caring about her bonding time with Chen Afu, slid down from her arms. With one hand she dragged Chu Lingzhi, while the other grabbed Dabao, "Uncle, Yan wasn’t lying. The toilets are really interesting. Isn’t that right, Dabao?"

Dabao nodded, wearing an arrogant look, "Everything in my house is extraordinary."

As he spoke, the three children took each other’s hands and ran off towards the West Wing.

Chen Afu turned to her guests and smiled, "Please come inside the house."

Marquis Chu waved his hand laughing, "We’ll take a tour first."

Everyone stood in the midst of the courtyard taking in the surroundings. Fu Garden in late spring was beautiful. Blooms were everywhere, and the sounds of bird chirping filled the air, sweet scents permeating throughout. It truly was a "garden filled with splendid flowers, birds singing sweet tunes, scents so fragrant". It was very different from their typical subjected-to-heart residences in the Capital City. Their gardens, although filled with brilliant flowers, were more refined and deliberate in comparison to the natural scenic beauty of Fu Garden.

The Seventh Prince’s eyes widened in surprise when he spotted a potted flower, which looked strikingly similar to a legendary flower among the other colorful blooms. He walked quickly towards the tricolor pansy, studied it closely, and realized it was identical to what Monk Gui Ling had described.

His heart burst with joy, he was so ecstatic he was on the verge of suffocation. Now, he could finally get it up! Thinking about the miracle that this flower could accomplish, he quickly hid his excitement, planning to ask Chen Afu about it separately. He had to ensure nobody noticed his unusual behavior, and even more so, ensure nobody saw this unique flower. With this in mind, he swiftly turned around to block the view of the flower and started fanning himself incessantly using his large folding fan.

No one noticed this particular flower among the others, as it was efficiently hidden from sight by the Seventh Prince. Chen Afu had to force down her laughter.

Although this fellow was annoying, his antics did bring some amusement. She should’ve hidden this plant so that this man couldn’t harm another girl.

However, since he had already seen it, there was no way she could prevent him from buying it. With the protection of Mrs. Chu, she planned to charge him a substantial price for it later.

After the guests had completed a round of the classrooms in the West Wing, they waited for the children to finish using the toilet. They later visited the toilets themselves, which once again stirred a round of laughter.

Subsequently, the group left the West Wing for the backyard while Chu Hanchu took Chu Lingzhi to play in the children’s playground. Marquis Chu, on the other hand, was engaged in a low conversation with Dabao.

In reality, since the moment the Seventh Prince laid eyes on the tricolor pansy, his concentration drifted and he paid little attention to anything else.

Later on, the adults moved into the main hall while the children were still playing in the backyard.

Chu Lingxuan, trailing behind, instructed Chu Huai and Xia Yue to play with the children for a while. He asked them to all have their dinner and bedtimes in

the West Wing, to avoid disturbing the noble guests.

He also whispered to Chen Afu that the Seventh Prince went to Honglin Mountain for sightseeing and visited the Hidden Spirit Temple to worship Buddha. Just yesterday, he was at Yingxue Nunnery bowing to the Buddha. He knew Mrs. Chu would be there, so he stayed over at the nunnery and followed her here. His mother avoided coming here because of his presence. Apart from Mrs. Chu, his mom didn’t like anyone else from the royal family...

He added, "He has a very close relationship with my third aunt. Don’t worry, he won’t cause trouble again. Also, keep him entertained for now. We’ll recognize Dabao as our godson later."

This was precisely what Chen Afu had in mind. She whispered, "What should we do? We thought Abbot Liao Chen was coming, so we prepared a vegetarian feast."
