Chen Afu, seeing the redness around Dabao’s eyes, bowed his head and rubbed his own face against the top of his head. In a soft voice, he said, "Good son, make a silent wish and don’t say it out loud. Just blow out the candle in one breath. Your wish will come true."

Dabao looked up at her and asked, "Can I make only one wish? I have so many wishes."

Chen Afu looked at his bright eyes, twinkling like the stars of a summer night, pinched his little face and smiled saying, "Today you can make only one wish, save the rest for later. In the future, every birthday you have, your mother will make a cake for you."

Dabao nodded his head, glanced at the others with pride, happiness bubbling up in his heart.

He silently made the one wish he most wanted to come true: to stay with his mother forever and ever, never to be separated. After making his wish, he sneaked a glance at his mother. He wanted to tell her about this wish so badly but he couldn’t. With great effort, he held back the words that were about to burst out - because if he spoke, the wish wouldn’t come true.

Then, he blew out all the candles in one breath.

Chen Afu led the applause, removed the candles, and then divided the cake into pieces, letting Xia Yue and Qiu Yue distribute it to the children and the already impatient Jin Yanzi, Qi Qi, and Hui Hui.

The cake smelled so good that the children almost swallowed their tongues, and they ate until they were stuffed. After they finished, they still wanted more, but Chen Afu spread her hands and indicated there was no more.

Including Dabao, a group of children all ran over to behave cutely at Chen Afu.

Dabao licked the cream on his lips with his tiny rosy tongue, adoringly gazing at his mother, conveying thousands of words in his little eyes.

Little Ms. Chu wiped her mouth clean of the cream, pursing her lips to make the little dimples at the corners of her mouth deeper and more beautiful. Her aunt loved these two dimples the most.

Luo Mingcheng and Yang Chao made loud smacking sounds with their mouths.

Yang Qian pouted her little mouth and repeated, "So yummy, so yummy, I want more, I want more..."

Dahu and the other children sucked their fingers, making a sound that could be heard even from outside.

These actions from them made Chen Afu laugh while also crying. She hadn’t made a big cake for fear that she couldn’t resist the children’s onslaught. Even though the children seemed to love the cake, they could not eat too much.

What made Chen Afu angry was that she had secretly saved a slice of cake for Alu, which had been placed on her bedroom table and covered with a large bowl, and yet it was discovered by Jin Yanzi, who, along with Qi Qi and Hui Hui, had sneaked in and eaten it up.

When Chen Afu discovered it, the three of them had already finished the slice of cake.

Chen Afu rushed over in anger, gave Qi Qi and Hui Hui each a slap, sending them to the ground, which provoked Qi Qi to curse at her, calling her a "smelly woman".

She then harshly flicked Jin Yanzi’s forehead, sternly saying, "You’ve already eaten so much, now eat this and you’ll get diarrhoea. Don’t expect me to help you clean up after."

Insulted, Jin Yanzi grumbled, "Mommy Fu is so annoying, speaking so rudely..." Before she could finish, she doubled over crying out, "Oh, oh, my tummy hurts! I feel like I have diarrhoea!"

Chen Afu was still angry, but upon hearing that she needed to defecate, she hurriedly said, "Go and do it in the bucket right now. If you do it in the bucket, I will help clean you up."

She sent Qi Qi and Hui Hui out of her bedroom, saying, "Go to Xia Yue and Qiu Yue, they’ll help you clean your faces."

Then she closed the doors and windows, holding Jin Yanzi, they entered the space together. She personally lifted the lid of a bucket and said, "Please defecate."

She was so urgent because it’s the start of a year, which is the best season for fertilization.

Jin Yanzi was rudely treated but it had no choice as it needed something from her. It stood on the edge of the bucket, bashfully hiding its face with a wing. After finishing, it was no longer in pain.

After defecating, it even showed environmental consciousness by using its beak to cover the bucket again.

Chen Afu then took Jin Yanzi out of the space and fetched a basin of water to help it clean. Then she mixed the water into a large basin and sprinkled it into the ground beside the yard.

During the day, the children joyfully played all day. But in the night, the spirits of Yang Chao and his sister were noticeably low as they had to go home the next day.

To that night, Chen Afu hugged two soft and fragrant little girls, but she was unable to sleep for a long time. Not because she couldn’t fall asleep, but because Yang Qian was keeping her awake.

Being loved by a little girl was a distressing thing, especially if it was from a talkative one.

Ms. Chu was well-behaved when sleeping, only quietly listening to Chen Afu’s stories before drifting to sleep. After Ms. Chu fell asleep, Chen Afu would kiss her beautiful little face, extinguish the candle, and then go to bed.

But Ms. Yang wasn’t the same, even after the storytelling, she would keep rambling on. In the end, she had to be instructed to shut her mouth, stop talking and quickly go to sleep. Even in her sleep, she did not stay quiet and would constantly move around, just like a small mouse. Hence, she didn’t dare to let her sleep next to Chu Hanyan.

After breakfast, Chen Afu held Chu Hanyan and Yang Qian’s hands, with Yang Chao following beside, they sent Alu and Dabao out of the yard.

Dabao today wore a bright blue shirt made by his mother, decorated with a skyrocket hairstyle tied with a blue ribbon, looking unbelievably handsome. In his hands, he held a small basket containing his study materials, wearing a full face of ambition.

Wumu and Shitou were already waiting at the entrance of Fu Garden. After bidding Chen Afu goodbye, they left with Alu and Dabao, turning east from Fu Garden and heading north.

Chen Afu too, with the children, turned to the east of the yard, watching the tall and short figures of the four children bathed in the morning light as they headed north towards the private school in Shangshui Village, gradually disappearing into the brilliant dawn.

After that, they packed many food and toys into the cart for the young siblings, watching as a crying mess of Yang Chao and Yang Qian were forcibly lifted into the carriage.
