Chapter 143: Chapter 142: Release the Dogs, Bite him

Chen Afu arrived at the West Room to find Mrs. Ding smoking a long pipe at Mrs. Wang. Rushing over, she smacked Mrs. Ding aside, scolding, "You old witch, how dare you hit my mother, believe me, I’ll kill you."

Mrs. Wang suddenly remembered that her daughter had been hiding in the East Room all along and in a fit of agitation earlier, she had completely forgotten. Terrified, she hastily pushed Chen Afu out the room, saying, "Afu, get out quick, your mother is fine."

"Hold it!" Mrs. Ding roared, staring incredulously at Chen Afu, then she began laughing uproariously. Speaking to herself, she said, "My goodness, they say the honest ones are the ones who do great things, and it is true."

Wang Cai was startled by his mother’s behavior and asked anxiously, "Mother, what’s wrong with you?"

Mrs. Ding ignored Wang Cai and turned to Mrs. Wang with a smirk, "Wow, Wang Juanniang, I always thought you were a dimwit, but turns out you’re quite cunning after all. You dared to deceive me and so many others..."

Mrs. Wang quickly denied, "I didn’t deceive anyone, I didn’t..." As she vigorously pushed Chen Afu towards the door, "Afu, step out, this is your mother’s business, don’t get involved."

Chen Afu stood her ground, refusing to budge no matter how hard Mrs. Wang tried to push her.

Mrs. Ding laughed and sat back down on the bed, her face suddenly taking on a benevolent expression. She spoke gently, "Juanniang, my good girl, tell me honestly, when you were driven out of the Chens, were you already pregnant?" She pointed at Chen Afu continuing, "This idiot...oh no, this child looks exactly like Mr. Chen when he was young. Is she his seed?"

Tears streamed down Mrs. Wang’s face as she shook her head vehemently, murmuring, "Don’t talk nonsense. Afu is my husband’s child. If you don’t believe me, wait until my husband comes back and ask him."

Mrs. Ding chuckled, "Juanniang, no one is a fool. Afu, with her extraordinary talent, obviously couldn’t have been born to that sickly Chen Ming..."

"You’re talking nonsense, it’s not true, it’s not..." Mrs. Wang kept repeating, now beginning to tremble.

Chen Afu held Mrs. Wang and whispered softly, "Mother, don’t be angry, I know, I’m my father’s own daughter."

Wang Cai finally understood. Looking closely at Chen Afu, he could see a striking resemblance to Chen Shiying from years ago. He recalled the time when he was young and Chen Shiying had visited their house in search of Mrs. Wang.

His eyes lit up as he let out a hearty laugh, "Big sister, you are good! Not making a sound, but you were able to lure Mr. Chen into bed... If my mother knew you were pregnant back then, she would have insisted on getting justice for you from the Chens, instead of hurriedly marrying you off to the sickly Chen Ming. Good grief, even if you were to become a concubine to Mr. Chen, you two would be set for life."

Mrs. Ding added, "Yes, if your mother knew the truth, she would have helped you. But it’s not too late to know now. My dear girl, take Afu and come with me. I’ll put my pride aside and ask Mr. Chen to take you two back to the Chens’ Mansion. I’m sure they wouldn’t want their own flesh and blood to be left out in the cold, it won’t look good on them. You might not know this, but Mr. Chen is a man who keeps track of old scores. He even came to our house to look for you once, but you were already married."

Trembling all over and through her tears, Mrs. Wang retorted, "Stop talking nonsense, Afu is my husband’s own flesh and blood. As for Mr. Chen and anybody else, I don’t understand what you are talking about. You’ve bullied me and my brother, but you cannot bully my Afu anymore. Go, just go..."

Wang Cai laughed again, "Big sister, don’t be stubborn, your good days are here. Even if you have to become a concubine at the Chens’ Mansion, it’s still like falling into a pile of fortune. If you really don’t want to go back, then give us 100 taels of silver..."

Before he could finish, Chen Afu cursed angrily, "Stop your foul-mouthed nonsense! If you love the idea of being a concubine so much, maybe you should ask your damned old mother to be one..."

With that, she swung her fist, striking Wang Cai on the shoulder.

With an "ouch", Wang Cai attempted to retaliate, but was pulled down to the ground by a strong force. A large grey dog stood over him, licking and playfully biting him, scaring him into calling for his father and mother.

Zhui Feng had wanted to bite someone while in the East Room but was kept at bay by Chen Afu. So it patiently waited at the door for an opportunity and when it saw its master about to get hit, it lunged forward.

The now full-grown and vigorous Zhui Feng had no problem taking down the scrawny Wang Cai.

Chen Afu stood in Mrs. Ding’s way and instructed Zhui Feng, "Don’t bite his neck or face."

She couldn’t have it killed, or even seriously disfigured. No matter how terrible he was, he was still considered an elder.

Wang Cai struggled to get back up, but with Zhui Feng knocking and biting him, he couldn’t manage. The commotion knocked over tables and chairs. A table fell onto Wang Cai’s leg causing him pain and fear, instinctively using his arm to shield his face and crying out in pain.

Mrs. Ding was frightened, crying and shouting as she tried to rush over to save her son.

Dealing with the elderly woman was like child’s play for Chen Afu. She grabbed Mrs. Ding by the collar with one hand and her hair with the other, forcing Mrs. Ding’s face towards her own.

The old woman’s face was streaked with tears and sniffling, her face a mess. From the corner of her right eye to her ear was a long scar, filling Chen Afu with disgust.

But she had to maintain the uncomfortable face-to-face position, gritting her teeth, glaring into Mrs. Ding’s eyes, she lashed out word by word, "You are the one with wicked intentions. You sold my mom twice, yet you still have the audacity to ask for silver, planning to sell her a third time. You old witch, you’ve done so many terrible things, how is it that the heavens haven’t claimed you yet. I’m warning you, if you dare step foot in my house to bully my mother again, I’ll have Zhui Feng bite you to death. Listen to me, I, Chen Afu, am the daughter of my father, Chen Ming. Every villager in Xiangluo Village can vouch for that. If you dare to slander me and link me to Chen Shiying, not only won’t I let you off, Chen Shiying definitely won’t let you off either. He is now an important official, if he found out you’re forcing a bastard daughter onto him, ruining his reputation, he’ll surely have someone come silence you..."

Scared, Mrs. Ding began crying hysterically, "I won’t dare, I won’t dare, please let my son go..."

When she heard that Mr. Chen might silence them, she became even more afraid. Looking at Chen Afu with wide eyes, it was as though she saw a furious Chen Shiying and this fear caused her to wet herself.

Smelling the foul hint of urine, Chen Afu wrinkled her nose in distaste. She was tempted to warp this disgusting face, but she knew she couldn’t. This wicked woman was not worth damaging her own reputation. In ancient times, disrespecting your elders was considered a grave misdeed. No matter how bad the elder, the younger generation was not supposed to resort to violence.

Evil will be punished by evil, there will be someone to deal with them!

Chen Afu dragged Mrs. Ding out of the West Room before thrusting her forward. Mrs. Ding was as limp as mud from the terror, collapsing weakly onto the ground.
