Chapter 170: Chapter 170: Wild Cookout

Su Nian decided to sleep her cares away.

Early in the morning, the triplets ran in and out to see if their mom had woken up.

"Mom is still sleeping, we need to be quiet."

"The sun’s already shining on our butts, how come mom isn’t awake yet?"

"Hehe, mom is feeling shy."

Hand in hand, the triplets tiptoed out of the room.

"Brothers and sister, let’s go, we’ll go to the market with grandma and grandpa."

Tianyu, worried that the little ones would wake their mom, led his brothers and sisters to follow along.

Father Lu and Mrs. Lu were more than happy to have them come along, placing the triplets into the tricycle that was lined with soft cushions.

"Tianyu, Xiao Yu, and Xiao Xue, you guys get on too."

But the three siblings felt shy and declined, opting instead to walk beside grandma as the whole family made their way leisurely to the market.

By the time Susu woke up in a daze, the house was eerily quiet, without a single person around.

Meanwhile, at the market, the appearance of the six siblings caused quite a stir, especially the chubby triplets who drew everyone’s admiration.

The old men and women were beside themselves with adoration.

"Oh my, how on earth do you raise such adorable triplets? They’re so plump and white, truly endearing."

"Gosh, look at these arms, all chubby and cute."

"What kind of fortune is this, to have the older ones so well-behaved and sensible, and the little ones such adorable triplets?"

...

Listening to the praise of their grandchildren, Father Lu and Mrs. Lu couldn’t help but beam with joy, their faces glowing red from the compliments of familiar and unfamiliar old friends.

"Oh, it’s all because the kids aren’t picky, they eat everything. It’s just Xiao Sun who is fussy and doesn’t like vegetables much. Plus, she was born much smaller than her two brothers,

so it’s normal that she is a bit smaller and shorter than them now."

"You don’t know just how sensible these kids are. Sometimes at home, when I flex my back, they run to bring me a stool."

"All six siblings never fight at home, at most they bicker a bit, but they make up soon after without causing us adults any worry."

The old couple each said their piece, making a group of old men and women envious.

It’s infuriating to compare; why are their own kids so mischievous, crying on the floor over the smallest grievances.

"Grandma, grandpa, drink some water."

The three little ones timely offered the water bottle, urging their grandparents to drink.

"Oh, such darlings of grandpa."

"My dear little treasures know how to take care of grandma~"

Mrs. Lu smiled, her teeth showing, "Okay, let’s go buy groceries, we’ll catch up next time."

The onlookers clicked their tongues, a mix of envy and jealousy fermenting in their hearts instantly.

The siblings huddled together whispering.

"Grandma and grandpa said a lot of words."

"That means our grandparents are happy."

"Oh~ I wonder if mom has woken up yet."

——

"Hello, mom, my sister and I miss you and dad so much."

"Mom and dad miss our Xiao Yu and Xiao Xue too, how’s everything back home? Are grandma and grandpa doing well?"

"Mom, my sister and I are doing great, and grandma and grandpa are especially healthy, so you and dad don’t have to worry."

Thousands of miles away, Jiang Nan held the phone, unable to stop her tears, saddened by her daughter’s precociousness, but continued to speak with a smile.

"Baby, mom’s bento business is getting better and better, and I’m even thinking of hiring people because it’s getting so busy.

Your dad and I are working hard to save money, and soon we’ll be able to have you darlings with us."

The sisters exchanged glances, both feeling happy for their parents.

"Then, Mom, make sure you and Dad take care of your health," one of them said.

"Mm, our darlings should eat well and aim to grow tall," replied Mrs. Lu.

Hearing that her eldest daughter-in-law’s boxed lunch business was doing well, Mrs. Lu had happily paid a smile. Making a call now also cost money.

But it wasn’t as expensive as the cost of not making the call.

...

The business at the store had stabilized, so Su Nian no longer needed to keep an eye on the clothing store every day. She chose a day when Lu Xiaoting was off work and took the whole family out for a picnic.

Yesterday morning, Father Lu and Mrs. Lu had gone to the market to buy plenty of fruits, vegetables, and meats.

Early today, they had gotten up to wash the fruits and vegetables and prepared two cold dishes, just missing the seasoning sauce.

The meat that had been marinated overnight was already flavorful, and the couple had threaded it onto bamboo skewers they’d prepared themselves.

Lu Xiaoting had gotten up early to finish up the barbecue grill he had made from his wife’s sketch and secured all the food and necessities to his bicycle.

Susu rode her own ladies’ bicycle with Xiao Yu, while Father Lu cycled with grandma.

Lu Xiaoting pedaled a tricycle, carrying the four sisters.

"Ha ha ha..."

"La la la..."

Along the way, the children’s laughter and joyous voices filled the air. Though the adults were not talking, the smiles on their faces revealed everyone’s good mood.

The group reached the suburbs and stopped right beside a small stream.

Susu and her in-laws were busy taking down small stools and tables, while Lu Xiaoting started setting up the barbecue grill, ready to begin cooking.

"Tianyu, you’re the elder brother. Keep an eye on your younger siblings and don’t allow them to play in the river. Anyone who doesn’t listen will get a spanking."

The triplets, already itching to sneak away and play in the water while their parents weren’t looking, immediately covered their little butts with their hands, their shiny black eyes stealthily gauging their mother’s expression.

Xiao Yu and Xiao Xue laughed at their younger siblings’ antics. They each took a hand of their younger sister and said, "Lele, let’s go pick flowers."

The two brothers let out a shout and also ran off to collect flowers.

Tianyu shook his head with a heavy sigh, his gaze firmly on his two younger brothers.

Su Nian leaned back comfortably on a small stool, wearing a cool hat and sunglasses, her gaze following the group of siblings.

Before long, the squabbling voices of the siblings could be heard.

"Second brother, third brother, you’re mean! Don’t yank the flowers around."

"Hehe, second brother, let’s see who can collect more flowers."

"Mm."

"Oh no, elder brother, you have to stop second and third brother!" complained the little girl with an annoyed voice.

"Cough, Pingping and Anan, don’t randomly pick the flowers; they are living things too."

"Oh, then let’s see who can collect more bugs."

...

"Ah, second brother and third brother are naughty, elder sister, let’s run!"

"Mommy, mommy, mommy, mommy, second brother and third brother are scaring us with bugs," the little girl said, her cheeks puffing up in anger, pointing at her two brothers who were all smiles.

Susu looked at the wriggling bugs in the hands of the two culprits and immediately felt her skin crawl.

"Pingping and Anan, go play with the bugs over there, or mom will spank you."

The two brothers exchanged glances, shrugged their shoulders, and promptly scampered off.

Susu looked at the man sweating profusely as he barbecued for the first time, her in-laws keeping an eye on their grandchildren, and the children happily running around,

feeling a bit regretful that she didn’t have a camera to capture these beautiful moments for posterity.

They spent a day that was joyful, beautiful, and unforgettable on their picnic.

The next day, Susu went out and bought a camera, sparing no expense.
