Chapter 153: Chapter 153 Li Mingcheng
Susu followed the young man’s gaze and caught sight of her younger sister, raising her eyebrows quizzically.
Her first thought was that this lad seemed interested in her little sister.
However, after the people left, she realized, wasn’t this the same guy who walked her sister home last night?
"Xian Yue, is this young man one of our regular customers?"
Su Xianyue nodded, "Yeah, he practically comes every day for tea or porridge and occasionally takes some staple food too. What’s up, Second Sister-in-law?"
"Nothing, he just looked familiar, so I asked."
Su Xianyue glanced at the girl busy kneading dough inside and whispered to her sister-in-law.
"Second Sister-in-law, I always feel like that comrade has a thing for our Xiao Nian. Every time he comes, he doesn’t even blink and just stares at Xiao Nian inside."
Susu raised her eyebrows, "Okay, I got it. I’ll ask Xiao Nian about it."
Su Xianyue silently heaved a sigh of relief, having mustered up the courage to say this after a lot of internal struggles.
After all, Xiao Nian and her sister-in-law were biological sisters, and though her sister-in-law was so good to her, she couldn’t knowingly keep quiet.
Unbeknownst to her, the triplets had gotten their hands on some steamed buns and were now each clutching one, eating with relish.
Susu patted the triplets’ little heads, "Do the steamed buns taste good?"
"Delicious!" the triplets said in unison.
"Did you thank the brother or elder sister who helped you get the buns?"
"We did~"
After the breakfast rush, when the last customer had left and the staff finally sat down to rest and eat, a bright-eyed Su Nian rushed over.
"Elder Sister, when did you get here?"
"I just arrived not long ago. You go ahead and eat."
Worried her younger sister might choke, Susu waited for the girl to finish eating before she started asking questions with suggestive gestures.
"Xiao Nian, I just saw the guy from last night buying food again, speaking of which—do you two..."
Su Nian’s face instantly turned hot and red. She hadn’t intended to keep it from her elder sister and was just about to speak when she noticed the three little ones with their ears perked up and big, round eyes staring at her.
"Pingping, Anan, and Lele, go play over there once you’re full. You can’t bother Brother, Sister, and Grandma while they’re working."
"Got it."
Susu sent the triplets off, leaving just the two sisters alone.
"Now tell me, what’s the boy’s family like? How did you two meet?" Susu asked, curiosity shining in her eyes, with her gossip-loving soul burning bright.
Su Nian pressed her lips together, "His name is Li Mingcheng, 21 years old. He’s helping with the family’s small business, which is why they sent him to night school.
We just got to know each other by attending night courses together. I heard his father is a retired worker from a textile factory. His mother doesn’t work; apparently, she has a secret family recipe for mooncakes and sesame cakes passed down from her ancestors.
He’s now managing the family’s bakery, with an older brother and an older sister above him."
Susu nodded; after all, her first impression of the young man was quite favorable—he seemed straightforward and well-mannered, with a good appearance and decent family conditions.
It was just the character of the other family members that she didn’t know; after all, marriage is a matter between two families.
Even if the young man was nice, it wouldn’t work if his parents were not up to mark.
"Do his parents know about you two dating? What’s their attitude?"
Su Nian shook her head, "I’m not sure if they know."

Jiang Nan got up early to tidy the house and then hurried to the market with her basket to buy groceries.
The vegetables she picked were the season’s cheapest, and for meat dishes, she planned on stir-fried pork with green peppers.
"Big sister, how much for these vegetables?"
"Pretty lady, these vegetables are 1.8 yuan per jin."
"So expensive?" Jiang Nan’s eyes widened with surprise, "Elder sister, can’t you make it a bit cheaper? It’s too pricey."
"Pretty lady, I really can’t make it any cheaper."
...
After some haggling, Jiang Nan finally managed to get them for 1 yuan per jin.
Back when she was still in the mechanical factory’s Family Court, Jiang Nan disdainfully refused to bargain, deeming it undignified to fuss over a cent or two.
But now, she wished she could split a penny in half as she carried her basketful of vegetables and hurried home.
Once home, she immediately started to busily wash, chop, prepare, and cook the vegetables.
Because the house was small, and everything from washing to cooking was done inside, as soon as she finished cooking, the entire place was filled with smoke; add the heat from cooking, and it was stuffy, hot, and suffocating.
Fearing any delay, because Brother Lu would be off work soon, Jiang Nan quickly packed up the food and went to deliver it to her husband.
Seeing his wife drenched in sweat, Brother Lu felt a twinge of heartache, "Wife, you’ve worked hard."
"I don’t feel it’s hard at all, I’m now full of motivation."
Jiang Nan lifted the towel from around her neck to wipe away the sweat, her eyes full of expectation, "Come on, try it. How does it taste?"
"Okay, I’ll taste it."
Brother Lu grabbed a big mouthful of vegetables with his chopsticks directly. His chewing paused for a moment, then after casually chewing twice, he swallowed and immediately followed with a big mouthful of rice.
"How is it? Does it taste alright?"
"It’s alright."
Brother Lu nodded, his chopsticks trembling slightly towards the meat dish, not daring to pick up as much. He swallowed it after similarly quick bites, followed again by two big mouthfuls of rice.
"How is it, how is it?" Jiang Nan eagerly watched her husband’s face as if afraid to miss even a minute expression.
Spotting the stiff look on her husband’s face, Jiang Nan immediately grabbed his chopsticks and took a bite herself.
"Cough cough cough... it’s too bland."
"Wife, drink some water."
Jiang Nan gulped down several mouthfuls of water before the saltiness subsided, then sighed.
"I didn’t get the amount of salt right."
She glared at her husband, "Next time, just tell the truth. What’s the big deal about telling it straight? Besides, this is all for making money."
Brother Lu sheepishly touched his nose, "Oh, I understand, wife. Next time I’ll honestly speak my mind."
"Hmph, that’s more like it."
Jiang Nan gave her husband an annoyed look.
...
"Xian Yue, you must be due soon, right? You’re still working at the store, can Xiao Sun and Granny Sun and Grandpa Sun be at ease?"
Susu looked at Xian Yue’s pregnant belly with concern.
Su Xianyue gently stroked her protruding belly, "Second sister-in-law, I was just about to talk to you about that. I’m guessing I’ll give birth next month; I’ll work until the end of this month and then rest."
Susu helplessly replied, "Don’t push yourself too hard; the well-being of you and the baby comes first."
Su Xianyue chuckled, "Mainly, I’m used to working. If I don’t work and just sit at home, I tend to overthink."
"Okay, just rest at home if you need to, and have Xiao Sun come over to let us know so we can adjust the work at the store in time."
Time flew by, and the end of the month arrived.
"Little Aunt, take these malted milk, brown sugar, and milk powder back to help your sister-in-law nourish herself. There are also sets of clothes for you, your Little Uncle, and your siblings," Su Nian said, pointing to a large basket.
Lu Xiaogu sternly refused to accept anything, "Since when does a Little Aunt take her wages and indulge in good food and drink every day? And now to take all these things when leaving, I don’t want them. You keep them for the children."
