Chapter 1591: Chapter 1152: The Classification of the Spiritual Body is Puzzling
A Fierce Spirit is a type of incomplete Spiritual Body.
Skeletons have ranks, such as Withered Bone, White Bone, Gray Bone, Silver, Gold, Mourning, Black Crystal, etc. Zombies are classified into Tough Skin, Copper Skin, Iron Skin, among others. Naturally, Spiritual Bodies are no exception, though their classification is rather special.
Among them, the lowest rank—Wraith—is practically equivalent to mosquitoes in the Undead World. They’re ubiquitous; wherever the breath of death accumulates, a swarm of Wraiths can sprout. They screech endlessly, buzzing around you and robbing you of peace.
Why is the breath of death on the Deadman’s Fruit considered the purest? Because those deathly auras won’t give rise to Wraiths.
For an Undead wishing to slumber peacefully, the best solution is to plant Cemetery Grass all around their grave. If not, even a Golden Skeleton could lose sleep because of the nuisance of Wraiths.
Only those who attain the level of the Lord of Mourning can exert a suppressive force on Wraiths, keeping them at bay. Otherwise, merely a breath from a Mourning Soul could shatter them apart.
Excluding these Wraiths—creatures no one desires to categorize as Spiritual Bodies—what remains includes Ghosts, Wraiths, Wandering Souls, Malevolent Spirits, Fierce Spirits, Relay Spirits, Heroic Spirits...
Within Ghosts, there are Earthbound Spirits that cling to objects to avoid soul dissipation, Back Spirits, Monument Spirits, Demon Spirits...
Spiritual Bodies are not grouped by strength but by intelligence. If referred to as a Spirit, it implies incompleteness—a fragmented existence with low intellect.
If referred to as a Soul, it signifies retaining some degree of intelligence, capable of growth and thought, like Feilin’s pet Wraith, Black Face.
However! Those possessing memories and wisdom from their past life are classified as Undead. The complexity and eccentricity of these distinctions leave people utterly puzzled.
Due to this intricacy, authors of common Knight novels typically don’t bother categorizing Spiritual Bodies. They often simplify it into two groups: one for unintelligent Spiritual Bodies, and another for intelligent Undead.
Because classification isn’t based on strength, low-level but intelligent Undead may still get beaten to death by more powerful Fierce Spirits.
"But no matter what—things like Mourning Fierce Spirits shouldn’t exist in this world!! What on earth is going on here?" Negris shouted in frustration.
"Why can’t there be Mourning Fierce Spirits?" Anthony asked, puzzled by the implication: "Can’t Fierce Spirits upgrade?"
The Monarch began explaining, "It’s not that. If they upgrade, they would condense a Soul Heart, undergoing a rebirth process. With their souls completed, they would become a complete Spiritual Body instead of a Fierce Spirit. However, this is incredibly challenging. I’ve never seen a Fierce Spirit successfully condense a Soul Heart, though theoretically, it’s possible."
For someone like the Monarch, ruler of two planes within the Undead Empire, not having seen it means it likely doesn’t exist.
Negris added, "Another possibility is artificial creation—like Relay Spirits. They possess complete and powerful Soul Hearts but lack consciousness."
"So, are these Mourning Fierce Spirits artificially created then?" Anthony clapped his hands in realization. "The Star Progeny Master—definitely him. He’s made so many Mourning Undead Soldiers, so surely there’d be failed, incomplete Mourning Souls among them."
Some things require no proof. Like an island with only two cats, one male and one female, and suddenly the female gets pregnant—who’s responsible?
With such a large number of Mourning Fierce Spirits, who else could be behind it other than the Star Progeny Master—the ’Tomcat’ who had already created countless Mourning Undead Soldiers? Surely not Big Cat teleporting onto the island for that.
Thus, Anthony’s inference went unquestioned. Negris asked, "Could it be that the Heisuo Mercenary Group has always been under the Star Progeny Master? That seems impossible. If they were, they wouldn’t have sold off the Old Immortal—our Primal Mourner—in the past."
The Monarch clenched his fists involuntarily, as if yearning to bash that Dead Fat Dragon’s head in.
Anthony observed the Monarch’s reactions before speaking, "I investigated it. The location where His Majesty was trapped happened to lie along the expedition route. Also, due to the Mourning Undead Soldiers, the Heisuo Mercenary Group wouldn’t have dared to privately stash the Lord of Mourning. Turning him over to the military was the safest option to avoid taboo violations."
Silver Coin chimed in, "If they feared violating taboos, they’re unlikely connected to the Star Progeny Master. Otherwise, they wouldn’t care about such matters."
"Then how does this..." Negris pointed toward the distant Mourning Fierce Spirits.
Anthony speculated, "Could it be because of their boasting about capturing a Primal Mourner, which led the Star Progeny Master’s forces to seek them out? In the battle at Roland Underground City, they merely exhibited the typical god-level mercenary group capability."
While the strength of a god-level mercenary group is formidable, it hardly impresses people like Anthony and his companions—all of whom had ascended to divinity at some point.
Even the weakest among them—the God of Knowledge—can now perform Dragon God Transformation and wield the Source of Water’s breath. Ordinary gods wouldn’t stand a chance.
Moreover, the lowest-ranking members of the Celestial Descendant Clan possess subordinate Origins like North Corona, which holds a World-Ending Magic Formation. It’s difficult for a mere god-level mercenary group to associate with them, let alone drag along so many Mourning Fierce Spirits.
"Even if they once captured a Primal Mourner, they wouldn’t plausibly hand over so many Mourning Fierce Spirits, would they? So far, we haven’t seen Heisuo’s Elf—could it be that the Star Progeny Master abducted Heisuo, taking her hostage and using her to intimidate her mercenary group into compliance?" Negris suggested.
Anthony slapped his thigh, "Makes sense! We saw the insignia and assumed Heisuo was leading, but what if her Elf was captured, and they’re using her to coerce the group? We should find a way to test this theory."
"How do we test it?" Negris instinctively glanced at Ange.
Ange looked at Anthony. Anthony gazed back at Ange. Ange nodded, clasping his hands behind him.
Negris looked to Ange, thinking he might have a solution. Ange studied Anthony, wondering about the plan. Anthony stared back at Ange, signaling that this was part of the strategy.
Seeing their synchronized movements, the Monarch smiled with satisfaction. A team requires long-term collaboration to develop such harmony.
Lacking that, you’d end up like Locke—sent to invite the God of Knowledge but instead returning with Negris after giving him a beating...
However, Negris, noticing Ange’s posture, couldn’t help but ask curiously, "Why do you need to keep your hands behind your back?"
Ange shook his head and withdrew his hands, revealing that his index and middle fingers were joined. A spherical light began forming at his fingertips, accumulating, its pulsations growing stronger and more pronounced.
Initially imperceptible to ordinary senses, the energy build-up suddenly drew attention as a figure darted out from the Heisuo Mercenary Group’s airship, warily peering toward Ange and his group.
"Excellent! A single test, and they’ve revealed themselves—it must be the Celestial Descendant Clan. Could this one be called Upper Crown?" Anthony quipped at the unfamiliar Celestial Descendant, his tone tinged with derision.
South Coronet previously mentioned there were no East or West Coronets, but could there be Upper Crown, Lower Crown, Left Crown, Right Crown, Front Crown, Rear Crown, Red Crown, Green Crown? Naming conventions for that clan were notoriously uncreative.
The Celestial Descendant, whatever their crown title, widened their eyes at the sight of Ange’s glowing fingertips and shouted in alarm before lunging toward Heisuo.
They severed the split appendages dragging the Mourning Fierce Spirits out and yelled frantically at the spirits, gesturing toward Ange and his group.
The Mourning Fierce Spirits struggled and roared, instinctively launching themselves toward the Celestial Descendant.
In response, the Celestial Descendant swung their arm and slapped the spirit fiercely, chastising it with a stern shout and again pointing toward Ange.
Only then did the Mourning Fierce Spirits understand the situation. Filled with reluctance, they turned and charged straight toward Ange.
