Chapter 1493: Chapter 1054: Did the Ancient Godlight Escape from Prison?
Ange’s Red Star and Truth Cannon were all ’caught’ by Ange himself. Heroic Spirits are essentially the manifestation of collective faith. In places where collective faith is exceptionally concentrated, they can be materialized.
Of course, only someone as freakish as Ange can casually materialize Heroic Spirits. Negris had never heard of anyone else being able to do this—not even Old Immortal could pull it off.
But the problem is, what can these Heroic Spirits do besides fighting on their turf? Now another one has been materialized. Where do we put it? In the book to fight with Red Star and the others?
"Lord Nage, Red Star and the others are not here," Anthony reminded.
"Ah? Oh right, I forgot. Good, good, there’s a place to store it," Negris snapped back to reality as the Yellow Mud Book flew over and snapped Heroic Spirit Ursman into its pages with a ’pop.’
Witch Shi Gaozhi had already plopped down onto the ground, pointing at the Yellow Mud Book and Negris, trying to say something but sputtering and failing.
Negris knew what he wanted to say. Opening the Yellow Mud Book, they saw on its pages a white-bearded old man standing there, looking around with confusion.
Shi Gaozhi excitedly rushed forward, shouting loudly, "Teacher, Teacher! Over here! Are you alright?"
The white-bearded old man turned his head in confusion, sizing up Shi Gaozhi from head to toe: "You are...?"
Negris’s expression froze, turning to Anthony, whose expression froze as well as he looked at Negris before turning to Ange. Even Ange couldn’t help leaning closer to scrutinize the Heroic Spirit on the page with bewilderment.
This Heroic Spirit actually has intelligence?
Unlike Red Star and Truth Cannon, which are nothing more than obsessive fragments of thought, Ursman astonishingly possesses sentience—and can communicate! It’s too incredible.
Red Star and Truth Cannon can "communicate" in their own ways, but their form of interaction usually involves being punted away with a kick.
While everyone was marveling over this, Shi Gaozhi was over there crying bitterly... though nothing could flow, as he was after all a Witch. Having been dried out for countless years, all he could do now was howl miserably. But that crinkled face wailing at the top of his lungs was outright hideous.
Unable to bear it, Anthony performed the Face Purification Technique, smoothing out the wrinkles on Shi Gaozhi’s face.
Finally, Ursman recognized him: "You’re Shi Gaozhi? How did you end up like this? Are you dead?"
"Yes, sob sob sob... Teacher, we’ve all died... Sob sob sob... Now I’m an Undead. I missed you so much, Teacher! Finally, I get to see you again... Sob sob sob..." Shi Gaozhi cried as he spoke, his words becoming increasingly fluent.
Previously, like Ange, he’d spit out words one at a time—not because he was lazy, but because he hadn’t spoken in far too long. His linguistic abilities had atrophied. Now, as he managed to say more, his speech began to return to normal.
"Where is this? Such an amazing place. Am I now in a spiritual body state? Hmm. No soul—so not an Undead. No sense of pain—so not physical. As a spirit, I can still see you. Hmm. This must be a capacity provided by this place, allowing spirits to receive external feedback. So, this is a Consciousness Space?" Ursman muttered as he thoughtfully analyzed the situation.
Negris and Anthony exchanged glances: "Is this really a Heroic Spirit?"
"This is what a Wise Man looks like? Such precise thinking? Does your book count as a Consciousness Space?" Anthony whispered.
"Yes, or maybe a Spiritual Awareness Space. Without relying on this space, he wouldn’t be able to materialize," Negris responded.
All Ange could gather were scattered fragments of heroism, but only through the Yellow Mud Book’s rendering would the Heroic Spirits display their true forms. The Yellow Mud Book acts like a translator device, in a sense.
Ursman, after musing to himself for a while, turned to Shi Gaozhi and asked, "Whose space is this? Can I meet them? I have a few questions I’d like to discuss."
Hearing this, Anthony stepped closer to the pages and greeted him: "Hello, Wise Man Ursman. I am the Pope of the Church of Light and Brilliance: Saint Anthony."
Ursman furrowed his brows in thought, hesitantly asking: "Light and Brilliance? How is that related to the Lord of Light?"
"Light and Brilliance—two sides of the same coin. Our Lord is Brilliance," Anthony explained.
"Oh, I know of the Lord of Light, though sadly I’ve never met Him. But this space shouldn’t belong to the Lord of Light. To confine a spiritual body while granting it cognitive abilities requires extremely complex mechanisms. This space must belong to a Wise Man. May I ask who that is?" Ursman asked.
A massive Bronze Giant Dragon appeared from the pages of the book, its forepaw alone as tall as Ursman’s waist. Lowering its head, it spoke in a deep voice, "This is my domain. I am the God of Knowledge; you may call me Negris."
Ursman looked up at Negris, pausing for a long while before finally saying: "I don’t recognize you."
Negris almost tripped over himself. He had intended to show off, but hadn’t expected Ursman to disregard the display entirely.
Not only did Ursman disregard it, but he also murmured quietly: "A god I don’t recognize? A new one? Shouldn’t be. To own such a Consciousness Space requires either immense power or possession of some sort of Divine Artifact. But I don’t recall there being such an artifact."
Negris felt a jolt internally. While the Yellow Mud Book was indeed a Divine Artifact initially belonging to Old Immortal, its current form was shaped through the combined will of Ange and the Monarch. Gradually upgraded over time, it now manifested in its current state. So ’immense power’ and ’artifact’ were indeed attributes it possessed—but was this Wise Man equipped with X-ray vision? Could he discern everything in a single glance?
Ursman kept muttering to himself: "An unknown god. An unknown artifact. An unfamiliar name, yet borrowed under the guise of the Lord of Light..."
At this point, he raised his head to look at Negris and asked, "Are you folks foreigners?"
"...," Negris held his tongue, then ’poofed’ out of existence, projecting back to his physical body. Speaking to Anthony, he said: "I can’t handle him; you deal with it."
Anthony rolled his eyes impatiently: "Your ’poofing’ away immediately tells him his guess was correct. What am I supposed to do now?"
"Ah..." Negris paused, stunned.
"Plus, so what if he figures it out? He’s in your territory. You can squash him however you like. What’s there to run from?" Anthony retorted.
Negris suddenly understood: "Oh, you’re right! I’ll go smash him flat!"
"Go away, get out of here." Anthony dismissed him, approaching the book again. After shooing Shi Gaozhi away, Anthony said to Ursman: "We are indeed from elsewhere—deep within the Boundless Space Hole..."
At this, Ursman’s expression turned to one of shock. His voice trembled as he exclaimed: "Ancient Godlight! You’re from the Ancient Godlight?! The Ancient Godlight has escaped?!"
