Chapter 94: The Gender is....
Nana informed Mira with a warm smile, "You’ll have dinner before the baby shower begins." Mira nodded in response, her excitement barely contained as she watched Nana bow gracefully before leaving the room. The weight of the upcoming event was starting to settle in, filling her with a flutter of anticipation.
Mira finally stood up, her heart racing with excitement, and headed to the bathroom to freshen up. She took her time, enjoying the calming effect of the warm water on her face. Once she was done, she stepped back into her room, where her dress for the evening lay waiting for her.
She slipped into a soft, flowy blue gown, designed to accommodate her growing belly. The dress gently hugged her curves in a flattering but comfortable way, allowing her baby bump to stand out proudly. The fabric was light, draping smoothly over her figure, making her feel both elegant and at ease perfectly complementing her glowing demeanor.
Her long hair cascaded down her back in soft waves, adding to the elegance of her appearance. She stood in front of the mirror for a moment, admiring how the dress moved as she turned. The flowing fabric danced around her legs with each step, a perfect reflection of the excitement she felt inside.
Satisfied with her look, Mira left the room and began her descent down the grand staircase. From the upper landing, she had a full view of the beautifully decorated living room below—a stunning showcase of the mansion’s grandeur. Her breath caught in her throat as she took it all in. The space was adorned with pink and blue ribbons, twirling elegantly from the ceiling to the floor. Balloons in soft pastels floated around the room, creating a festive yet tasteful atmosphere.
In the center, the sofas were arranged perfectly, making the room feel cozy despite its size. To one side, a table with two chairs stood, likely for the upcoming baby shower games. Across from it, another table was filled with adorable toys and neatly wrapped gifts, all awaiting the celebration. The room was magnificent, every detail reflecting the joy and anticipation of the day.
As she reached the bottom of the stairs, Mira turned to Nana, her unspoken question clear in her eyes. Sensing Mira’s curiosity, Nana spoke up with a gentle smile. "Miss Lily went to get ready. The shower will begin in two hours, so you’ll have plenty of time to enjoy dinner first."
Mira nodded again, her gaze drifting back to the decorations. It was all so beautifully prepared, and yet, her excitement made it hard to focus on anything else. The event felt surreal, like a dream that had suddenly come to life. The thought of celebrating her baby with those closest to her was overwhelming, in the best possible way. But there was still time before the festivities began, so she quietly made her way to the dining table.
The spread before her was nothing short of amazing—an array of dishes, each more delicious-looking than the last. Yet despite the mouthwatering options, Mira found her appetite lacking. It wasn’t that the food didn’t look appealing; it was the excitement bubbling inside her, making it hard to focus on eating. There’s a certain kind of anticipation that can take away your hunger, and this was exactly one of those moments. But she knew she needed to eat, if only a little, to keep her strength up for the event ahead.
She nibbled at the food, trying to calm the butterflies in her stomach. The flavors were rich and comforting, yet they didn’t do much to settle her nerves. Her mind kept drifting to the upcoming baby shower—the gender reveal, the gifts, the games. It was all so exciting, but also nerve-wracking in a way she hadn’t anticipated. She pushed those thoughts aside, reminding herself to enjoy the moment. This was a celebration, after all, a day she’d remember for the rest of her life.
After finishing her meal, Mira stood up and made her way to the living room. Her heart fluttered with anticipation as she imagined the room soon filling with her friends, all there to celebrate this special occasion with her.
"Hello!" Lily’s cheerful voice rang out, breaking Mira’s thoughts. She turned around to see her friend entering the room, a wide smile on her face.
Mira couldn’t help but smile back, feeling the warmth of their friendship wrap around her like a cozy blanket. "Lily," she greeted, her voice soft but filled with happiness.
Lily, holding a beautifully wrapped gift in her hand, walked toward Mira and playfully pinched her nose. "I can’t wait to find out the baby’s gender!" she exclaimed, her eyes sparkling with excitement.
Mira laughed softly, nodding in agreement. "I know! I’ve been thinking about it all day."
Soon after, James arrived, followed by a few of Mira’s colleagues from the company—people who had been her support system while Zamian was away. Only five of them were invited, but their presence felt monumental. Each of them greeted Mira warmly, their smiles radiating kindness and excitement.
James stepped forward, clapping his hands to gather everyone’s attention. "Welcome, everyone! Thank you for coming to celebrate this special occasion with Mira and her baby," he began, his voice steady and filled with enthusiasm. The room grew quiet as everyone turned their attention to him, ready to begin the celebration.
After the greetings were exchanged, James continued, "Now, let’s get to the most anticipated part of the evening—the gender reveal!"
A wave of excitement rippled through the room as the guests leaned forward in their seats, eager for what was to come. The helpers, dressed in festive attire, handed a blue card to Mira while Lily received a pink one. The two women exchanged glances, their hearts racing with excitement.
James smiled as he held up a small envelope. "Mira thinks the baby is a boy, and Lily believes it’s a girl," he said, glancing at the cards in their hands. "Now, on the count of three, turn your cards!"
Mira’s heart raced as she gripped the card in her hand, the weight of the moment settling over her. She looked around the room, seeing the eager faces of her friends and colleagues. This was it—the moment they had all been waiting for.
"One... two... three!" James counted, his voice filled with excitement.
Mira and Lily flipped their cards at the same time. Mira’s card revealed a star on the back, with the word "boy" written on the front. Lily’s card, however, said "girl." A murmur of excitement passed through the room as the guests leaned in, waiting for the final answer.
"The correct answer will earn a star," James teased, his eyes twinkling with amusement. "Maybe even a wish—after all, it’s a wishing star."
A soft laugh rippled through the guests as they watched the two women, their anticipation growing with each passing second.
"But first," James said, raising a hand for silence, "let’s see what the guests think. Is it too early for the reveal?"
The helpers handed each guest a small pen-like device with two buttons—the ’Yes’ button lit up green, and the ’No’ button lit up red. As the guests eagerly pressed the ’Yes’ button, the room was enveloped in a soft green glow, creating a magical atmosphere. The excitement in the room grew as everyone exchanged glances, a few guests giggling in delight.
James grinned at the sight, feeling the energy of the room swell with excitement. "Very well then," he said, his voice building in excitement. "The gender is... a girl!"
Lily leaped to her feet, her face lighting up with pure joy. "I knew it!" she exclaimed, her voice filled with excitement as she did a little victory dance in place.
Mira laughed, watching her friend’s exuberant reaction. "You were right," she said, feeling a warmth spread through her chest. It was moments like these that made the anticipation worth it.
As the laughter and joy settled, refreshments were brought out, the air filled with the delightful aroma of pastries and savory treats. The gift-giving portion of the evening began shortly after, with each guest presenting their gifts to Mira. She watched in awe as her friends and colleagues placed their gifts atop the table, each one a token of their affection and support.
Mira felt a wave of gratitude wash over her. Her colleagues had gone above and beyond, bringing thoughtful gifts that would help her once the baby arrived—clothes, toys, and practical items that would make her life easier as a new mother. Yet, despite the happiness she felt, a small part of her wished Zamian could be there to share the moment with her.
As the last gift was placed on the table, James stepped forward, his face slightly hesitant.
"It’s time for the parent’s speech," he said, his voice steady but filled with uncertainty.
Mira felt the weight of the room’s gaze turn toward her. Zamian was supposed to give the speech, but with him away, it was up to her to fill the role.
Taking a deep breath, she straightened her posture and stepped forward.
"I’ll do it," she said, her voice strong and confident.
