Chapter 43: Silent Trouble
Zamian chuckled softly at Mira’s expression, the way her eyes widened in surprise, and leaned in closer, resting his face against her neck. The floral scent that surrounded her was intoxicating—she smelled heavenly. It enveloped him, stirring something deep within. Before Mira could move, he whispered in a deep, velvet voice, "Just a little longer." Her heart raced, pounding like a drum in her chest. As she opened her mouth to respond, she froze, feeling the warmth of his wet tongue brush lightly against her skin. His hot breath fanned her neck, creating a ticklish sensation that stirred emotions she couldn’t quite comprehend. The warmth of his breath awakened something inside her, leaving her momentarily breathless.
"Are you not going to sleep?" she managed to ask, her voice trembling slightly as she still felt his slow, steady breath against her neck. She couldn’t help but wonder if he had just lightly brushed his lips against her skin, sending a shiver down her spine and leaving her with a mix of curiosity and anticipation coursing through her veins.
He finally pulled away, a flash of something in his eyes—something even he couldn’t understand. "Now sleep," he said as he hugged her on the bed. Mira’s heart drummed; was this how he felt when she had cuddled with him that day, or was it just her?
"Mira, stop tempting me. Go to sleep now," he said.
Mira stared up at him as he gently parted and caressed her head. Why was he doing that? It was soothing and comforting, but she felt as if she were being treated like a child. Zamian then bent closer, her hazel almond eyes so innocent yet tempting. Mira looked into his dark eyes, which seemed like diamonds locked away from her reach. They were the opposite of her own eyes, which were full of light.
He finally shifted his gaze and gently pinched her cheek, a rare display of tenderness from his usually reserved demeanor. His ears were slightly pink, though Mira didn’t notice as she decided to sleep. Zamian’s usual control was slipping, but he masked it well with his composed exterior. Mira was sure that tomorrow would be a long day, and despite the comforting gesture, she couldn’t shake the feeling that Zamian’s behavior was different from his usual self.
---
Mira woke up to find that Zamian was no longer beside her. Her eyes were still a bit sleepy as she stretched and reached for her phone. It was noon—just two hours until evening. Panic set in as she realized she had overslept. She quickly got up and hurried into the bathroom to take a shower.
Immediately after finishing her bath and washing her hair, Mira came out of the bathroom, blow-dried and straightened her hair. She slipped into a milk-dark-white dress that ended just above her knees and paired it with matching cute shoes. Grabbing her lip tint, she tucked it into her purse. As she left the room and made her way downstairs, she saw Zamian in the living room for the first time. He was absorbed in his phone, handling business matters as usual. He wore a brown shirt with not-too-short sleeves and a well-tailored, limited-edition custom-made brown trouser with a jacket. His brown hair was neatly swept back. A set of food was prepared in a corner, clearly meant for her. Mira felt a pang of frustration; she couldn’t believe she had overslept. Knowing she was supposed to be out in the afternoon, she was sure Zamian had been waiting for her. Angry at herself for sleeping so long, she remembered the lessons her grandpa had taught her about punctuality.
She quickly ate, though Zamian didn’t notice her at first. As she walked toward the living room, he finally looked up and stared at the gorgeous woman before him. Zamian, rarely one for compliments, was taken aback by Mira’s appearance and remarked, "You look lovely." The unexpected compliment surprised her, and her cheeks flushed deeply.
"Thanks... I’m sorry for being late," Mira said.
Zamian nodded. "It’s okay. Let’s go."
---
As they got into the car, the drive was silent until Zamian spoke. "This will take about six hours." Normally, he would have used the helicopter, but he hadn’t asked Mira if she was comfortable with it. Not knowing if she had a problem with heights, he decided on the car instead, reminding himself to ask her next time.
Mira nodded, feeling a twinge of guilt for causing them to arrive late. However, since Zamian didn’t seem to mind, she decided to let it go. As time passed, Mira began to feel uneasy, unsure of what was happening. Zamian noticed her discomfort and observed her closely. Unaware of Zamian’s gaze, Mira took out her phone. As she checked her calendar, her eyes widened when she realized her period had started.
Mira realized that she hadn’t been keeping track of her period dates. Her eyes widened in alarm as she remembered she was wearing a milk-dark-white gown, which would likely show any stains. Panicking, she tried to move subtly to check if she was stained. Her fears were confirmed when she saw a red stain, and she felt a wave of distress wash over her.
