Chapter 127: A Bond Of Laughter And Love
Mira and Zamian stepped out of the mansion, now dressed in simple, comfortable outfits. The fresh change suited the relaxed mood of the evening, though the grandiosity of their surroundings still held its charm. Outside, the sound of laughter caught their attention. Little Zami was playing joyfully with Lily and James on the manicured lawn, her infectious giggles filling the air. It was a sound that brought an immediate smile to Mira’s face.
Mira observed the scene, her heart swelling with warmth. Lily had always been a wonderful aunt to little Zami, and seeing her now, Mira couldn’t help but think how naturally maternal Lily was. She was certain Lily would make an exceptional mother, and the thought brought her both joy and a pang of guilt. How had she missed something as monumental as Lily’s pregnancy? She had been so consumed by other matters that she hadn’t noticed her friend’s growing belly until recently.
Lily spotted Mira and waved, calling out something Mira couldn’t quite make out. The moment she did, little Zami turned as well, her face lighting up in pure joy. Without hesitation, the child abandoned her playmates and dashed toward her mother, her tiny arms outstretched.
"Mummy!" little Zami squealed, her excitement radiating with every step. Mira’s heart melted as she bent down, scooping up her daughter with practiced ease. She spun her around playfully, eliciting another cascade of giggles from the little girl. Zamian, who had been silently watching the interaction, let out a soft chuckle at the sight.
"Mummy, did you change your outfit?" little Zami asked curiously, her big, bright eyes darting between her mother and father.
Mira smoothed a strand of hair from her daughter’s face, smiling. "Oh yes, baby. Daddy and I decided to wear something simple for dinner."
Little Zami nodded, seemingly satisfied with the answer. She nestled her head against Mira’s shoulder, her tiny hands clutching her mother’s arm. Mira glanced at Zamian, who gave her a playful wink. She felt her cheeks grow warm and quickly looked away, trying not to appear too flustered. It was moments like these that reminded her just how deeply she loved her husband.
Little Zami shifted in Mira’s arms and looked up at her father with a bright, expectant gaze. "Daddy, how did I do?" she asked, her tone filled with anticipation.
"You did excellently," Zamian said warmly, his voice carrying a note of pride that made little Zami beam. "In fact, Mummy and I have a surprise for you."
Little Zami’s eyes widened with excitement. "Really?"
Both parents nodded, their expressions matching their daughter’s enthusiasm. Zamian gave Mira a quick signal, which she returned with a subtle nod of her own. Taking that as his cue, Zamian excused himself, explaining that he had something to attend to in his office. Mira knew he wouldn’t be far—family came first now, something he had learned the hard way five years ago.
Shortly after Zamian left, Lily approached, her face lighting up as she drew closer. Mira set little Zami down, allowing her to greet her aunt.
"Mummy! Aunt Lily and I ate fruit salad—it was so yummy!" little Zami exclaimed, rubbing her tummy for emphasis. To add a touch of drama, she licked her lips, her wide eyes filled with mischief.
Mira chuckled, thoroughly entertained by her daughter’s antics. "That’s nice, baby. But you know Aunt Lily is pregnant now, so she needs plenty of good rest," she said gently, her voice filled with affection.
Little Zami nodded seriously, turning to Lily with a look of understanding far beyond her years. Mira, meanwhile, glanced at Lily with a teasing smirk, her expression saying more than words ever could.
Lily caught the look and immediately blushed, her cheeks turning a deep shade of red. She recalled how she had mercilessly teased Mira during her pregnancy, never missing an opportunity to make her friend squirm. Now, the tables had turned, and Mira was determined to exact her playful revenge. With a mischievous wink, Mira silently told Lily to brace herself. This was only the beginning.
Lily, clearly flustered, tried to mask her embarrassment, but Mira wasn’t about to let her off the hook so easily. The sight of her once-shameless friend now reduced to a blushing mess was too amusing to ignore.
Later that evening, the three—Mira, Lily, and little Zami—sat down for dinner. They had already been informed that Zamian and James wouldn’t be joining them, as work demanded their attention. Though they understood, the absence of the men made the atmosphere feel distinctly different.
"This feels like a girls-only dinner," Mira remarked with a smile as she placed a small portion of food onto little Zami’s plate.
Lily nodded in agreement but quickly caught the playful glint in Mira’s eyes. She knew her friend well enough to sense a teasing remark was coming.
"Hm, you’ve gotten so shy these days. I wonder why," Mira teased, resting her chin on her hand as if deep in thought. Her tone was lighthearted, but she was mindful of little Zami, who was quietly eating and taking in her surroundings.
The young girl’s gaze wandered around the grand dining room, her expression still filled with awe. The lavishly decorated mansion seemed to captivate her completely. The shimmering chandelier above, the elegant table settings, and the soft glow of the wall sconces—it all left a lasting impression on the child. Mira couldn’t help but smile at her daughter’s wonder.
"Mommy, are we staying here forever?" little Zami asked suddenly, her curious gaze locking onto her mother’s.
Mira smiled warmly and stroked her daughter’s cheek. "Yes, of course, baby. Why not?"
Little Zami clapped her hands together in delight, her excitement lighting up the room. "Then Grandpa will come and visit too!" she exclaimed, her voice brimming with hope.
Mira nodded, sharing in her daughter’s enthusiasm. "Yes, baby, Grandpa can visit us anytime," she assured her, brushing a stray curl from Zami’s face.
Turning to Lily, Mira’s expression shifted to one of playful mischief. "I’ll be your first invite for the baby shower, right?"
Lily chuckled softly and nodded. "Of course, you will," she replied, her voice filled with warmth.
As the conversation continued, Lily found herself reflecting on Mira’s presence in her life. Things could have been so different without her. Mira had a way of bringing light and support into any situation, and Lily was grateful for her friend’s unwavering companionship. She couldn’t imagine facing the journey of motherhood without Mira by her side.
"You need to rest, okay? Thank you so much, my dear friend," Mira said suddenly, her voice filled with genuine care.
Then, leaning in slightly, she added in a whisper, "And make sure to tell your husband to be gentle if you’re... doing something." A playful wink followed her words, leaving no room for misinterpretation.
Lily’s cheeks turned a vivid shade of pink as the meaning behind Mira’s words sank in. "Mira! You’ve really become shameless," she exclaimed, her voice a mix of embarrassment and amusement.
Mira laughed heartily, clearly enjoying her friend’s reaction. Lily shook her head, though a small smile tugged at her lips. It seemed some things never changed.
After dinner, Mira finally kissed Lily goodbye, expressing her gratitude with a warm hug. She also waved to James, who gave her a friendly nod in return. Together, Mira and Zamian carried little Zami upstairs, their laughter and whispers echoing softly as they ascended to the top floor.
Reaching the corridor, Mira stopped in front of a door close to their own room. She turned to her daughter with a soft smile. "This is your room, baby girl," she said, her voice full of excitement as she gently pushed the door open.
The moment little Zami stepped inside, her small gasp of awe and surprise filled the air. Her eyes widened as she took in the room’s vibrant beauty—it was everything she could have ever dreamed of. The walls were painted a soft, playful pink, her favorite color, and adorned with glittering accents that sparkled in the light. The bed was covered with plush pillows and a fluffy comforter, and there were shelves filled with toys, books, and everything she loved.
Little Zami turned back to her parents, her eyes brimming with joy. "Thank wyou, Daddy! Thank wyou, Mummy!" she said, her voice filled with genuine gratitude and excitement.
Mira giggled at her daughter’s adorable mispronunciation, while Zamian chuckled warmly, clearly pleased by her reaction.
Little Zami wasted no time stepping inside, her tiny hands running over the soft bedspread and exploring every corner of the magical space her parents had created just for her. It was a moment of pure wonder and happiness for her, and for Mira and Zamian, it was a reward for all their efforts to make their daughter’s life beautiful.
This was more than just a room—it was a place where little Zami could feel safe, loved, and free to dream.
You’re welcome, baby girl. Daddy and Mummy love you," Zamian said softly, his voice full of warmth and affection.
It was a tone that Mira had never imagined hearing from him—a far cry from the intense, commanding demeanor he once wore. His voice, usually so firm and assertive, now carried the softness of a loving father. Mira stood beside him, her heart swelling with a mixture of awe and disbelief. The man she had married—once so distant, so wrapped up in his duties, now seemed so completely transformed by the love he had for their daughter.
