Chapter 114: Movie Night Wishes

"I want that," little Zami said, her small voice soft and eager as she pointed to a cute storybook on the shelf. Her eyes sparkled with excitement. She couldn’t wait to show it to Great Grandpa, hoping he would read it to her tonight. Mira watched her daughter and husband with a warm smile, her heart swelling with happiness as she observed how well little Zami and Zamian were bonding.

Zamian, seeing Zami’s interest, handed her the storybook with a gentle smile. "Do you like it, princess?"

Zami nodded eagerly, then her attention was caught by a single rose nearby. Pointing at it with equal excitement, she said, "Oh, I want that one too!"

Zamian chuckled softly, carefully handing her the rose. "There you go."

But instead of keeping it, little Zami spun around and stretched her tiny hand out to Mira, holding up the rose with a beaming smile. Mira’s eyes widened, a wave of emotion flooding over her. She hadn’t expected Zami to give her the flower. It was such a small gesture, yet it felt overwhelmingly precious.

"Thank you, my baby," Mira whispered, her voice full of warmth as she accepted the rose, holding it close to her heart. "I love you."

"I love you too, Mummy," Zami replied, wrapping her little arms around Mira in a tight hug. Her voice had a slight lisp, pronouncing "really" as "weally," which made Mira’s heart melt every time she heard it.

Zamian watched them, his own emotions stirred. Part of him wanted to join in, to hold both of them close, but he restrained himself, not wanting to make the moment too intense for Zami. He noticed that when Zami handed Mira the rose, a memory surfaced in his mind—a painful one. He remembered the day he had brought Mira a bouquet of roses, only to find that she had left. It was that day he had truly understood heartbreak, a feeling he thought he’d never have to endure.

Little Zami, noticing his pensive look, tilted her head and asked in a small voice, "Mr. Zamian... um, weally, are you staying tonight?"

There was a soft hopefulness in her tone, as if she wanted him to stay but was too shy to ask directly. Zamian paused, surprised by her question, and unsure how to respond. He couldn’t exactly tell her his car was in poor condition. The night before, he’d assured her his car would be fixed by morning, and here he was with the same car that hadn’t broken down at all. After a moment, Mira stepped in, sensing his hesitation.

"Yes, Mr. Zamian will be staying tonight," she answered for him, her tone gentle but firm.

At that moment, Zamian felt a whirlwind of emotions. Should he laugh because she had finally approved of him? Or should he cry because he had missed her so deeply? He didn’t know which to choose. No matter how many times life hit him, he kept his pain hidden, enduring it alone. But this moment—her allowing him to stay—made him want to embrace her and kiss her softly. He wanted to pour all his happiness into that one gesture, but he held back, keeping his emotions in check.

Little Zami squealed, her eyes lighting up as she clapped her hands. "Mommy, mommy! How ’bout we have a movie night tonight?"

Mira looked down, seeing her daughter’s face lit up with joy and excitement. Smiling, she nodded. Zami had always loved movie nights, a special time for them to relax together, laughing and snuggling up. As she grew older, their movie choices had evolved, moving from cartoons to her latest favorite shows, but the tradition stayed alive.

"Alright, sweetheart. We’ll have a movie night," Mira agreed, her smile widening as she glanced at Zamian, wondering if he’d join them.

Little Zami jumped up, cheering, "Yayyy! Movie night! Can we have popcorn, mommy? An’ pizza, an’ ice cweam, an’ all the yummy things?"

Zamian couldn’t help but chuckle at her enthusiasm. "How about we pick up everything for our movie night?" he suggested, raising an eyebrow as he looked at Mira. She nodded, quickly ordering pizza, popcorn, and all the snacks Zami loved.

As they exited the mall, Zami happily skipped along, holding her mother’s hand in one tiny fist and Zamian’s in the other. Together, they walked as a family, with people around them sneaking glances. Some whispered in admiration, while others seemed to envy the warm, joyful scene they made. Zamian felt a soft smile tug at his lips as he glanced at Mira. This moment felt surreal—walking side by side with her, like they were finally together, like he was a proud husband and father fulfilling his long-awaited role. She had given him a chance, and that was all he needed.

The car ride was calm and quiet, almost peaceful—a rare kind of peace that brought comfort to all of them. The chauffeur, noticing the tender atmosphere, allowed a small smile to form on his face but quickly returned to his professional demeanor. He drove in silence, maintaining his focus on the road.

Soon, they arrived at Mira’s apartment. Zamian stepped out first, opening the door for Mira and Zami. Mira exited the car, while little Zami bounded out, her bag bouncing at her side as she dashed toward the apartment door, her excitement undimmed. Mira shook her head with a smile, watching her daughter’s boundless energy.

"I’ll be back soon," Zamian said softly, hesitating as he looked at Mira. "I just need to pick up a few things."

She nodded, understanding without him needing to explain further. She knew he probably wanted to grab a coat for the evening, maybe some personal items he’d need. With that, she led Zami inside as Zamian got back into the car and left.

As they entered the apartment, Mira took little Zami to her room, helping her change into something cozy and comfortable for their movie night. It seemed Grandpa was out collecting newspapers again, a habit he had developed over the years to keep up with the morning and evening news. Mira wasn’t surprised that he wasn’t around; she had become accustomed to his routine.

After settling Zami in her room, she helped her pull out her schoolwork, planning to tackle some of her homework together before they relaxed for the night. But before they started, Mira decided it was time to talk to her about something important.

"Baby girl," she began softly, her tone warm and inviting.

Little Zami looked up, her round eyes wide with curiosity and a smile lighting up her face. "Yes, mummy?"

"Can mummy tell you something?" Mira asked gently.

Zami nodded eagerly, her voice full of sincerity. "Of course, mummy! No secwets!"

Mira chuckled softly, charmed by her daughter’s innocent promise. Her heart swelled, and for a moment, she considered just pulling her into a tight hug, overwhelmed by how much she loved this little girl. But she knew she had to share her news.

"Okay, baby girl." Mira took a steadying breath, choosing her words carefully. "Mr. Zamian... well, he’s going to be staying with us from now on."

Little Zami’s mouth dropped open, her eyes lighting up with pure joy. She started bouncing on her feet, unable to contain her happiness. "Weally, mummy?! Weally? Mr. Zamian’s gonna live with us?"

Mira nodded, feeling a rush of emotion as she saw the excitement shining in her daughter’s eyes. This was the reaction she had hoped for. "Yes, honey. He’ll be staying with us, so you’ll get to see him every day."

"Oh my gosh, oh my gosh!" Zami squealed, clapping her hands. She looked like she was ready to burst from happiness. It was clear that she’d wanted this too, though maybe she’d been too nervous to ask. In her mind, it was almost too good to be true. Part of her had been secretly wishing for a long time that Zamian would stay forever, so much so that she’d even found herself hoping his car would break down just so he’d have to stay longer. She knew it was a silly thought, but she couldn’t help it.

With a squeal of joy, Zami threw her arms around her mother, hugging her tightly. Her heart was full, her mind whirling with thoughts of all the wonderful times they would have together now that Mr. Zamian—no, Daddy—would be with them every day.

Mira, feeling her own heart lighten at her daughter’s happiness, hugged Zami back, smoothing her hair gently. She could feel her daughter’s little heart racing with excitement, her tiny hands clutching Mira’s shirt as if she’d never let go. Mira’s gaze softened, grateful to see Zami this happy and knowing that Zami’s support was all that mattered to her.

After a few more moments, Mira took a deep breath, and then, as if needing to voice it out loud to make it real, she whispered softly in Zami’s ear.

"He is your daddy."
