Chapter 60. Different Choices
Chapter 60: 60. Different Choices
An Nishang returned to her office with a gloomy expression.
The stunningly bewitching face seemed to be covered with a layer of frost, and inside the office, the temperature seemed to plummet.
She sat behind her desk, leaned back, and closed her alluring and slightly enchanting eyes.
Yan Chong, this old fox, was indeed causing trouble.
That batch of military arsenal was very important to An Nishang.
But the position of the Judicial Bureau Chief was even more important to her.
The Apocalypse Society was a group of rats hiding in the shadows.
To deal with the Apocalypse Society before Bode, she had to invest a lot of effort.
This meant the investigation regarding the military arsenal had to be temporarily postponed.
This was a two-way choice.
Should she pursue her weapons, or the position of the Chief?
Or rather... take action against him, find the shadow of the Apocalypse Society.
But this would trigger many chain reactions afterwards.
Bringing her great trouble.
Yet, if she wanted to keep her weapons while quickly obtaining information about the Apocalypse Society, this seemed to be the only way.
An Nishang fell into a long silence.
Her heart continuously weighed the pros and cons...
...
Wildfire Gang’s encampment.
The Wildfire Gang’s encampment was in a district close to Ant Street.
The members of the Wildfire Gang rented an apartment here.
Although the rent was expensive, this place wasn’t part of Ant Street.
If other rival gangs wanted to retaliate against them, attacking their base would require causing trouble in the Upper City District, which would invite repercussions from the security team.
Thus, generally wealthy Lower City gangs would try to find a way to the Upper City District, rent an apartment near Ant Street.
To enjoy the protection of the Upper City’s law enforcement.
This area was basically near Ant Street.
Because most gangs violated the laws of the Upper City District.
Usually, they can coexist peacefully, but if the Upper City people decided to turn on them, these gang members could quickly enter Ant Street.
Jumping back and forth between the upper and lower levels.
This was a survival rule for the lower echelon.
To ensure the safety of the Wildfire Gang members, even if it cost money, Johnny chose this favorable location for the Wildfire Gang’s base.
The apartment now had some newcomers.
Led by Chana, the Hunters.
Under Chen Che’s order, Johnny temporarily placed Chana and others at the Wildfire Gang’s place.
The two sides managed to get along well.
In the open space below the apartment, the Wildfire Gang had a bonfire going, a constantly burning bonfire that was the totem of the Wildfire Gang.
They were maintaining and cleaning their weapons in the open area.
Chana arrived here with a total of 25 Hunters.
They settled down briefly, and without further orders from Chen Che, they didn’t know what livelihood to pursue.
The Hunters attempted to interact with the Wildfire Gang members.
Both sides belonged to the lower echelon.
But the way they lived was different.
One side was a gang fighting and dealing contraband in the vast Ninth Special Zone, risking their lives.
The other was continually seeking means of survival in the safe zones surrounded by high walls, wandering on the dangerous Wasteland.
The fundamental survival rules of both sides were different.
But it didn’t stop them from being curious about each other.
Chana took a bath, braided her hair into small, long braids, and tied them into a ponytail at the back of her head.
This method was similar to dreadlocks, ensuring prolonged comfort as opportunities to bathe on the Wasteland were rare.
Clean and straightforward, matched with her bright eyes, she appeared valiant and spirited.
In a short period, Chana had recovered from the sorrow of losing her father.
In a doomsday scenario, there wasn’t much time to stay immersed in emotions.
Those excessively caught up in emotion had long died on this land.
Chana proactively reached out to the Wildfire Gang members; she knew since they had submitted to Chen Che along with Wildfire Gang, integration was necessary.
Chana approached a girl proactively; she remembered she might be the sister of the Wildfire Gang leader... seemingly named Dora?
Dora skillfully disassembled a rifle, maintaining the parts.
Chana moved closer, picked up a part, and said, "The rifling is seriously worn, do you guys use guns intensively in the city?"
Dora looked up at the dark-skinned, sprightly woman, not showing much resistance, smilingly replied, "This gun has been used for a long time, guns are expensive, so we make do. No idea how many troubles this gun has solved for my brother and them."
"Is city life as cruel as that?"
"Yes. Sometimes if you don’t shoot, you’re the one who dies. What about you? You’re Hunters, right? We’re more curious about how you survive without safe zone walls in the barren and harsh area? Aren’t you afraid of roaming mutant beasts and distorters? I heard distorters feed on humans."
"Yes. So most Hunters operate around large safe zones, distorters and mutant beasts don’t come to this place in large numbers. Once you live on the Wasteland long enough, you can even avoid them by intuition."
While talking with Dora, Chana helped maintain the gun parts, she wasn’t new to this work.
Perhaps both sides found each other agreeable; chatting back and forth drew them closer.
Only then did Chana ask, "How long have you been with that man? What kind of person is he?"
Chana was eager to know the answer.
Hunters had keen intuition, and her intuition said following Chen Che might be a good choice.
But sometimes intuition fails, and a wrong choice could be fatal.
Chana didn’t know much about Chen Che and wanted to get some insight from fellow Chen Che followers like Dora.
True or not didn’t matter.
Dora genuinely shook her head, saying, "Actually, I don’t really know what kind of person our boss is; we haven’t been following him much longer than you, just a day or two more."
Chana looked at Dora in disbelief.
Dora smiled and shrugged, "Really, he saved me with a unique pie."
Dora simply recounted to Chana how the entire Wildfire Gang met Chen Che.
"So because of a pie, you chose to submit your entire gang to him?"
"It was my brother’s decision. My brother’s decisions are never wrong, without him, who knows how many of us would have died in the gang.
So everyone trusts my brother; when he knelt, we all knelt."
"That’s too hasty..." Chana muttered, stunned.
"But he saved you too, didn’t he? A life-saving grace led to submission.
Perhaps he has a strong personal charisma? At the time, my brother and others wanted him dead, yet he dared to approach alone; I thought he had great courage.
Following him might not be bad.
Maybe it eases the burden on my brother’s shoulders.
Even if it’s wrong, it’s nothing much.
At worst, you’ll die, and death only hurts for a while."
Chana stared blankly at the girl in front of her.
Personal charisma?
She recalled the shadow of Chen Che.
That peculiar man indeed seemed to possess a charisma not from this world.
The sound of a motorcycle came from outside.
"My brother is back." Dora exclaimed with some excitement.
Chana noticed Dora’s body trembled slightly.
