Chapter 16: Transforming Kunlun, Immortal’s Blessed Land
In the blink of an eye, hundreds of years had passed.
For centuries, Xuan Qing and Haotian had explored and harvested countless resources. Yet today, after a long period of silence, Laozi and the others finally appeared. Upon their return, Laozi took Xuan Qing to survey Kunlun. After bidding farewell to Xiao Yaochi and Xiao Haotian, Xuan Qing departed with Laozi, soaring through the skies towards Kunlun.
Returning to Kunlun after such a long time stirred a sense of nostalgia. The once-familiar land had remained unchanged, yet something within him felt different.
Upon their arrival, Laozi flung out his sleeves, releasing numerous spiritual roots that descended into the Kunlun Blessed Land. Yuan Shi Tianzun did the same, scattering countless resources from his sleeves into the land. Tongtian followed suit, bringing forth yet more spiritual roots and precious materials.
In mere moments, Kunlun’s spiritual qi grew denser, and the land became lush with ancient and powerful spiritual roots.
“Huh… So many spiritual roots. I have seen all of these before. Master, are these…?” Xuan Qing recognized each one, having once examined them alongside little Haotian. But now, seeing them gathered in Kunlun, he felt a sense of unease.
Laozi sighed softly, as though lost in thought. “Disciple… These spiritual roots were all granted by your Master Ancestor. From now on, they belong to you. Use the water from the Creation Pool to nurture them and ensure their growth.”
“Do not worry, Master Ancestor. I will take good care of them.” Xuan Qing nodded, though he could not help but wonder why Hongjun had entrusted so many spiritual roots to the Three Qing. Something about this situation did not sit right with him.
After a moment of contemplation, Yuan Shi Tianzun spoke. “Elder Brother… We should enter seclusion to comprehend the Master’s teachings.”
“That is a good idea. Disciple, we shall cultivate in seclusion alongside your senior uncle. We leave Kunlun in your care. Do not neglect your cultivation.” Laozi looked upon Xuan Qing with warmth before turning away.
“Understood, Master.” Xuan Qing nodded, watching as the elders withdrew into cultivation.
—
Soon, Laozi and the others had fully immersed themselves in seclusion. It was evident that they had gained profound enlightenment from Hongjun.
Left alone, Xuan Qing gazed across the expanse of spiritual roots that now adorned Kunlun. He could not shake the questions in his mind. Zi Yun… Why do you think Master Hongjun entrusted so many spiritual roots and resources to Master and the others?
This is unclear. Perhaps Hongjun no longer needs them, Zi Yun replied, equally perplexed.
Even if something feels amiss, finding the truth will not be easy. Rather than dwell on it, I should focus on organizing these spiritual roots first. Xuan Qing smiled to himself and turned his attention to the vast land before him.
“Are you not going to cultivate?” Zi Yun inquired curiously.
“I will settle the spirit roots first, then cultivate.” Xuan Qing spoke casually. There was still plenty of time.
—
Laozi and the others had planted the spiritual roots haphazardly across the land, creating a tangled forest rather than a well-structured sanctuary. Looking upon Kunlun’s current state, Xuan Qing found it lacking—there were no palaces or pavilions as depicted in his past life’s memories. The vast blessed land of Kunlun had little more than a few scattered caves, with no grand architecture to be seen. Even the legendary Jade Void Palace had yet to be refined.
He pondered for a moment before murmuring, “It would not hurt to decorate.”
Once the thought took root, he immediately set to work. He devised a grand plan in his mind, then commanded the dao children to gather refining materials in preparation.
Xuan Qing had learned the art of refining from the First Heavenly Father. As Laozi’s only disciple and the sole inheritor of both the First Heavenly Father and Tongtian’s teachings, he had received their knowledge without reservation. Over time, he had honed his skills, refining countless treasures in the past.
Now, utilizing Laozi’s Dan Furnace, he tempered materials and inscribed formations, transforming raw stone into refined bricks. As the number of bricks grew, he began constructing a vast spiritual garden, carefully arranging the innate spiritual roots and rare medicinal herbs within.
With precise craftsmanship, Xuan Qing built bridges, pavilions, and water features, redirecting the Kunlun Spiritual Spring to enhance the scenery. Spiritual roots were no longer scattered randomly but arranged in harmonious gardens, while medicinal herbs flourished in well-planned fields. He even took out the water from the Creation Pool, enriching the soil and nurturing the plants to perfection.
—
The spiritual garden was soon complete, but Xuan Qing’s work had only just begun.
He refined the mountain gate next, shaping Kunlun stones into smooth steps. Though Tongtian had imparted the Dao of Formation to him, his understanding remained limited, restricting him to basic gathering and illusion formations. Even so, he managed to carve these formations into the newly refined steps, extending them into a magnificent three-thousand-step ascent to Kunlun’s entrance.
A vast mountain gate took form, its engraved formations drawing in spiritual energy, shrouding the entrance in an ethereal mist. Further refining transformed Kunlun’s landscape—palaces, pavilions, cloud-bound terraces, gardens, and flowing waters came into existence.
Xuan Qing, caught in the joy of creation, indulged in decorating every corner of his home. The dao children, though exhausted from his relentless orders, worked diligently under his direction. Their deepening cultivation made such tasks easier, allowing the grand vision to take shape.
—
In the blink of an eye, centuries had passed once more.
For hundreds of years, the dao children and immortal cranes had been swept into Xuan Qing’s grand renovations, tirelessly reshaping Kunlun’s Blessed Land.
The transformation was remarkable. Gone was the once-plain wilderness—Kunlun now exuded an immortal majesty, worthy of its legendary name. Cloud bridges stretched across the land, crystal springs glistened in the sunlight, and the grand Kunlun Stairs stood as a testament to the sect’s grandeur. Every inch of the land radiated an ethereal beauty.
At last, Xuan Qing surveyed his work with satisfaction. “Although these constructs are not of the highest grade, the foundation is solid. Once Uncle Yuan Shi emerges from seclusion, I will have him enhance them, refining the palace, pavilions, and staircases into true spiritual treasures.”
“You spent centuries on this… Do you not find it boring?” Zi Yun asked, his tone exasperated.
Xuan Qing, unfazed, replied with a lofty air. “How is this boring? Kunlun is my home—why should I not decorate it properly? Living in a mere cave lacks elegance. Compare this to Master Hongjun’s Yujing Blessed Land, where every detail is carved from innate spiritual energy. I refuse to settle for anything less.”
“Fine, do as you please. A few centuries wasted on this does not matter. However, the gourd vine you saved—that gourd is different.” Zi Yun’s voice carried a hint of intrigue.
Hearing this, Xuan Qing stepped into the Spirit Root Garden.
At its core, the most precious spiritual roots flourished: the innate gourd vine, puppet wood, and immortal apricot, among others.
Gazing upon the gourd vine, Xuan Qing took out the Creation Pool and gently sprinkled its water over the plant. “The water of the Creation Pool contains traces of creation energy, which was enough to save the vine. However, its origin remains damaged. I do not know how many Green Lotus Seeds it will take to restore it.”
A sigh escaped him. Though he had tried everything, the Creation Pool’s water could only alleviate the symptoms, not fully heal the vine. Left with no alternative, he followed Zi Yun’s suggestion, crushing a Green Lotus Seed and merging its essence into the gourd vine…
