Flash Marriage: Shrewd Wife, Devious Husband -
Chapter 99: Priority
Chapter 99: Priority
"Open the door, Tony."
Marcella quickly dashed to the dresser in the corner. That corner wouldn’t be visible clearly from the door. She needed to fix herself. Her hair is messy and her dress is rolled over. Anyone would figure out what they were doing inside.
Tony walked to the door with a disappointed groan. "Coming..." He said as he opened the door. It was Stella.
"Coffee, for the missus," Stella took a peek inside.
"Want coffee, Marcella?" Tony turned to look at her covering Stella from having a look at her. He didn’t want anyone to see his wife in a mess when he was the one who messed her up.
That pleasure only belongs to him.
His wife must have the speed of a cheetah, she had already fixed herself. Even her lipstick was on. He wondered if he wasn’t that passionate.
"Coffee? Thanks, Stella," Marcella walked to the door. "I need coffee. My husband must trouble everyone so much. He doesn’t even keep his room clean," she said with a smile.
If it was anyone else, she wouldn’t have talked about her husband that way. But Stella had a maternal love toward Tony and she didn’t mind talking about her husband that way.
"You cleaned it, honey?" Stella walked in. "Goodness gracious! Look how space he has now. He never allows us inside the room. All we could see was the mess inside... He let you clean. Maybe you should visit often, honey. And I don’t say that just for the muffins," Stella chuckled.
"I must, it seems," Marcella got the coffee. Leaning on the table she took a sip.
"You cleaned it all so soon," Stella was surprised. "I didn’t even know there was a dresser there. Why is he having a dresser in the office? You cannot let him continue like this, honey, if you know what I mean," Stella winked.
Tony was shaking his head behind Stella. Why is she getting the credit for cleaning? He cleaned the room! But he didn’t dare to interrupt the women when they were complaining about him. He sat on his desk starting on his work. He needed to get home early tonight.
He wanted to hug his wife tonight. For the first time, he saw want in her eyes. She was prepared and she was burning in desires just like he is. They need not wait any longer.
Stella left after talking with Marcella for some time. It was already six in the evening. Marcella did a little finishing touches in the office. She even went out and bought a couple of potted plants for his room. He didn’t mind anything she did. She can do what she wants.
"Louis Fletcher called me to the office today," Marcella said. She cannot forget what she came here for. Well, it was only secondary but since the primary issue got solved, she decided to bring up the secondary issue.
She would have waited for him to get home but it appeared that he had a lot of work left. She decided to tell him now in case he would want to deal with it immediately.
Tony hummed not taking his eye off the document he was holding.
"Did you have Cindy fired?" she asked.
"He told you that?" he lifted his eyes up to glance at her for a second before his gaze returned to the document.
"He said you might have talked to Cindy’s boss about her harassment. Gloria gathered information that Cindy might not be able to find work in the city anymore," Marcella looked at him.
Tony said nothing. Cindy definitely cannot find work in the city suitable for her experience in the city. She can be hired... as a janitor, or as an elevator girl if she wanted to work in the city. Maybe those jobs would suit her.
He didn’t want to tell that to Marcella. He had a feeling that she would say that he went a little too far in Cindy’s case. He didn’t want to hear it from her when it is more than justified for him.
Anyone who manages to inconvenience his wife can only have an inconvenient life.
"What else did Louis say?" he asked.
"That Paul Romano is trying to get our marriage annulled so that he can get custody of Joey," she said.
Squinting his eyes, Tony looked up.
"He knows that we married because my sister’s will was leaked. He thinks it was Uncle Karl. I am worried," she said.
Tony took in a deep breath and placed the document down. "Worried about what?"
"Worried that Paul might reveal the truth causing trouble to your political aspirations, worried if it is outed that Chris revealed the will to me, he might lose his license to practice law, above all, I worry if I might lose Joey."
"You’re not worried that our marriage might get annulled?" he asked.
Marcella was lost for words. That should have been the first thing she must have worried about.
She was ashamed. She bowed her head.
"You don’t have to worry. I am having it all under control," he said picking up the document. "I already knew Paul was trying something..."
Tony went on the look at the document. Marcella pouted and looked at him for some time.
"Louis Fletcher asked me if I would have asked any man to marry me in that situation," she said.
She didn’t want them to have a misunderstanding. Tony was not saying anything but he would have gotten hurt. Among them, Tony is the one who values marriage more and she proved it once again.
She wanted to make it clear that she was not taking their marriage lightly, although she might not consider it the most important thing in the world. She considers taking care of Joey the most important thing in the world and she was not ashamed of it.
Tony looked up.
"I meant it when I said no," she said.
"I know that," he said and proceeded to look at the document.
Marcella stood up. She didn’t know whether he was convinced or not. But she said what she wanted to say. And she sensed no surprise from him when she told him about Paul’s plans.
He already knows.
He already knows.
Just how much power does he hold? How is he taking care of every minute details and watching over everyone around us?
She was grateful for him. She felt safe to be with him. She can relax. He will protect her and their nephew.
"I’ll leave now, Tony. I’ll have to prepare dinner. When will you be back?" she asked.
"No, sit," Tony said. "What time is it?" he checked his time. "Stay a little longer."
Marcella’s heart skipped a beat. "I’ll have to relieve Rosy too. She cannot be staying there the whole day. Poor girl got to go on dates or something..." she smiled.
Tony looked at her and smiled. "Shouldn’t we go on dates too, then?" he stood up.
"No, you finish your work first. I’ll wait for you," she said.
Tony shook his head and held her hand. "Let’s get dinner first."
Marcella couldn’t refuse him. He brought her to an Italian restaurant nearby. The manager knew Tony and he gave one of the reserved tables to them.
Marcella let Tony order for her as he knows what’s the best dish in the restaurant.
"Why did Louis call you?" Tony asked.
He didn’t think that that was all they talked about. To ask her if she would have married any man out of nowhere just didn’t make sense.
"He told me I was his first love," Marcella said. She didn’t think it was a good idea to tell her husband what another guy told her but she didn’t know why she was so honest with him.
Maybe she was still feeling guilty for not putting their marriage first. Tony sounded a little sad when he asked the question.
"I’m sorry. I know you wouldn’t want to hear that," Marcella bowed her head.
Tony sighed. "You were the first love to many men, Marcella. It’s a fact that I knew always. It’s not going to hurt me," he said.
"What will hurt you?" she asked.
She didn’t know what his thoughts were. One moment he is the most rational person on planet earth and the next moment he gets hurt by something she says.
"What hurt me was seeing you walking into another man’s house hand in hand," he said.
His eyes lacked its luster and the smile on his face was missing. She sensed that he was angry or irritated, to say the least.
"You were watching me," Marcella said.
She too get mad when he said that. Is he expecting her to apologize for having a boyfriend in the past? And what was he doing watching her? Was he stalking her?
She wanted to get angry but then she remembered his words describing first love. She moved on while he was still stuck on her. He must have been in so much pain.
"After your mother’s death... You left me with no choice," he said.
"That long?" she asked.
Whenever he talks about their past, she feels a sense of dread along with happiness.
What kind of man is he?
