Chapter 94: Not Tonight
Chapter 94: Not Tonight
"You didn’t use words, but you taught me that using your actions. You are smart, Marcella. I learned a lot from you," Tony said.
"Whatever you say, Tony," Marcella smiled.
"You also had a keen sense of smell," Tony smiled. His face brightened as he reminisced about the past. "You used to smell the chocolates and give me the ones with peanuts in it..."
"Mellissa loved the hazelnut ones..." Marcella smiled fondly remembering the past.
Her father bought them a lot of candies and other stuff. She loved to share them with Tony.
"You liked hazelnuts too, but you gave them all to your sister," Tony said.
"I did not like..." Marcella paused furrowing her brows. "Hazelnut is fine... but..."
She has nothing against hazelnuts. If she was not sharing with Mellissa, she would enjoy eating hazelnuts.
Whatever. It means nothing.
"Caramel is better anyway," Marcella shrugged. "And almonds..."
Tony smiled. Yeah, she got a taste for it having no other way; Because she shared the ones she liked.
He remembered getting mad at Mellissa for never noticing that Marcella liked hazelnut chocolates. He did. How did she not? Did she not care about her sister? Obviously, Marcella loved Mellissa more.
She hated peanuts and maybe that was the reason he liked peanuts better. He can have something she hates so that she need not share what she likes.
There were many little things that added up. He never liked Mellissa much. His eyes were only on Marcella. She was his special one.
But later when he grew up, he could see how much Mellissa cared for Marcella. She stood up for Marcella even when he tried not to. She lost friends for Marcella and she held her ground when it came to the Romanos.
Mellissa was a good sister. He could see why Marcella might not forgive him for "letting her sister die". He didn’t have much regret. He thought about it deeply. It was a terrifying thing he lost his brother and sister-in-law. But he held no regret for not exposing Marcella to those who wanted her that night.
He did nothing wrong. He protected her in the best way he can. He will die on that hill.
He wouldn’t say that he was happy about what followed. But he did the bare necessary thing he should have done. He would have regretted it if he went about the day even slightly differently.
Marcella stared at Tony for some time without saying anything. She didn’t know what he was thinking. But it was nice to just look at his face.
"Have you finished?" he asked pointing at the plate. "You should eat more."
"I am eating a lot these days. I’m going to become a pig soon," she complained.
Because she has company, she eats a little more than usual.
"You’d be a cute piglet then," Tony chuckled. "And I’d be the pot-bellied wild boar." He rubbed his abdomen. "I am gathering fat here these days. I’m getting old. I should start working out more."
Marcella giggled covering her mouth. Her eyes ended up on his forearm. She could only barely see his skin as it was covered with hair. "You do have the hair of a boar...You can use a comb there." She pointed at his forearm and she couldn’t stop giggling.
"You’re so focused on my hair. Why is that?" Tony asked rubbing his forearm.
Marcella didn’t answer him and continued laughing. She was not going to tell him that she finds his hair attractive. He could pass for a caveman with the amount of hair on his skin but for some reason, she found it attractive.
Maybe she has the mentality of a cavewoman.
"I’ll shave everything. Like you do, woman," he grunted.
"No, don’t!" she shouted immediately as if he was talking about stealing her life savings. She was panicked. What will she do if he loses all his hair?
"Oh?" Tony raised his brows. "Interesting..." he smirked.
"What’s interesting?" Marcella pretended to act normal. She patted her cheeks which felt a little weird.
"Everything... everything is interesting..." Tony winked.
She likes the hair...
"I went to the warehouse earlier," she said.
She did not like his smile. She could see that he was mocking her. And so, she changed the topic.
"Good," Tony shrugged. He didn’t follow up with any questions.
"You are not curious why I went there?" she asked.
"I’ve already told you. You can go there any time you want. It is your place," he said.
Marcella sighed.
If she can believe his words, then she was backstabbing him when she asks around about him. He says that was her place but wouldn’t he ask around what she did there?
She didn’t feel the need to feel guilty.
After cleaning the dishes, Marcella waited till he got dressed. She wondered if she should bring up the visiting card she found in his pocket. But she didn’t know how to bring it up.
"Don’t wait for me. Go to sleep. I’ll try to make no noise when I return," Tony hugged her and gave a peck on her lips.
"Okay," Marcella smiled.
A bunch of his hair was falling on his forehead. It made him look casually hot. She didn’t want others to see him like that. She fixed the hair brushing it to the side.
Tony was still looking at her.
"What?" she asked.
Still holding her, he walked forward.
"Tony..." she held his shoulder and took a step back.
He pushed forward while she retreated. It was like a dance, except it was linear. He only stopped when her back hit the wall.
"You like to pin me against the wall, don’t you?" she asked.
Her throat felt dry as she saw the passion in his eyes. She knew what comes next.
"I hope the bill gets passed soon," he whispered. It was more of a suppressed grunt than a whisper.
Marcella smiled. "Hmm..." She wetted her lips.
"Birdie..." he leaned forward.
Marcella closed her eyes waiting for his soft lips on hers. She felt the warmth of his breath on her ear and let out a deep breath. She could smell him.
It was calming. She didn’t dare to open up her eyes to see what he was doing. She didn’t have the guts to face his intense eyes.
"You’ve met Gloria. I should meet your colleagues," she hissed. "We should invite them to the wedding party..."
"How about this weekend?" he whispered in her ear. As he spoke, she could feel his soft lips on her ears. "We can go to dinner with them."
"Mmm..." she gulped.
"You can visit me any time you want. I don’t mind. I’d be in the office most of the time this week," he added.
"Mmm..."
"Birdie, why are you closing your eyes?" he asked.
Without even looking at him, she could sense the teasing smirk on his lips. She shut her eyes tightly.
"Birdie..." he whispered, this time his warm breath tickled the nook of her neck. She exhaled sharply. This teasing is only making her more and more sensitive. She is not getting used to it.
She clutched his collar and willed herself to open her eyes. A few of her hairs were stuck to his hair and hanging. Meeting her eyes, he smiled.
"Birdie..." he kissed the tip of her nose.
"Aren’t you late?" she pushed him.
She pushed; He didn’t move. He must have swallowed a mountain for strength.
"Mmm..." he said. "I do not want to leave."
He leaned on her shoulder. "I was hoping you’d wear the set you bought yesterday..."
His hot breath slipped into her neckline and as it passed through her cleavage, she felt a shiver passing through her spine.
"But you are leaving..." she said.
She didn’t know where she got the courage to say those words. She is implying that she would have worn it if he was staying the night—that she was ready to go further than kissing him.
"My God, Birdie... You’re killing me..." he kissed the nook of her neck.
She clutched his shoulder hard.
"Are you sure, Birdie?" he asked.
He tried to look at her but she ran her finger through the back of his head and pushed him to her chest. She was not that courageous to face him when they are talking about this.
"We are married, Tony. Why should we wait?"
"We need not... We need not..." he said.
He held her waist and his fingers trailed along the waistband of her pajamas for a couple of seconds before slipping inside her shirt. She let out a moan as his coarse finger found its way to her soft smooth skin.
"But not tonight," she placed her hand over his hand as his hand reached for her scar. "Tonight, you go to work."
Tony let out a deep breath. He stood up. "Tonight, I go to work..." he repeated what she said. But she could feel the pain in his voice.
He whipped his body away and rushed to the door. Marcella looked down to notice two of her buttons undone. She didn’t even realize when he undid her buttons.
What a sneaky guy.
Her hands were shaking with excitement.
She might never settle her feelings for him, probably. She will never figure out his mystique. But she can accept this one thing.
He is her husband, for better or worse.
