Chapter 76: Shameful Behavior
Chapter 76: Shameful Behavior
Don DeAngelo had called him that morning after he had forbidden him to attend the party that night. He looked like he didn’t feel comfortable talking to him but Donna was with him. It was obvious Donna asked Don to talk to him.
Don DeAngelo apologized to him, in his own way; he tried to. He asked him to attend the party to have an eye on her. Don told him that he told Marcella not to attend the party because she was underage and he had all sorts of people attending it, and it might not be safe for her. Don rightly predicted though that she will not listen to him and will attend the party.
That’s all Don said. Donna had to add that he can clear the misunderstanding caused during the prom. She was very worried for Marcella as she had lost her "light".
Wearing the suit he rented for the night, it was not hard for Tony to spot Marcella among the crowd. He watched her downing glasses of alcohol. He made sure Don didn’t catch her doing it. Don was strict regarding certain things. He didn’t like it when women get drunk. He wouldn’t like to see Marcella drunk. He cannot let Marcella get punished for drinking.
When she slipped out, he followed her. She was already drunk and she didn’t recognize him even when he took off his mask. Thinking he was someone else, she talked to him.
All she talked about was "Sweet Baby Tony". Tony this and Tony that; Tony was and Tony is... She cussed him and smiled talking about him. When he said that he will beat up that guy for her, she refused immediately.
’He’s mine to care for. No one else can touch him. I’ll take care of him.’
Those were her exact words. He had never come across someone who cared for him to that extent. Maybe there were. But her care touched his heart and soul.
Of course, the incident at the prom came up. She was mad one moment and the next moment she cried talking about it.
He saw for the first time, a different side of her. He saw his love for her that she didn’t ever hide anymore.
He couldn’t bear it when she cried thinking that he didn’t like her.
He kissed her.
Wasn’t a kiss or lack thereof the reason for her sadness? He didn’t want it to be anymore.
He was so emotional seeing the tears in her eyes—tears she spilled for the wretched him. She should not be crying for him. It made him sad and also happy. He couldn’t describe that feeling that squished his heart.
When he finally tasted her lips, his brain stopped functioning; his heart was on overdrive and all the blood rushed to his belly. He was a teenager who tasted nectar for the first time in his life.
He couldn’t stop.
She is his person. She is his love. He learned how much she loves him too. It’s not an unrequited love anymore. Don had no problems with him dating her and that means their marriage is almost finalized.
Mine... Marcella is mine...Finally!
That was the only thought that went through his mind. Well, that and how sweet her lips were; how soft her skin was. His hands couldn’t help but have a hungry taste of her curves. She was much softer than he imagined her to be.
His hormone-riddled brain combined with his love-filled heart turned out to be a deadly combination.
He forgot one thing. He forgot that she didn’t know she was with him and that she was drunk out of her mind. He missed to use his words to express his love for her. After being patient for years waiting for her love, he lost his senses for a moment.
It ruined everything.
She pushed him away. She had to fight to push him away. He was on her like a hungry wolf. She slapped him. Looking at her, he still has doubts about whether she realized it was him. He heard her father’s men coming there hearing the scuffle. He didn’t want to run away. They knew him.
But then he saw the remnants of his devious "passion" on her. Her hair was messy, there was a tear in her dress that got crumpled in the altercation, and he saw a splotch of blood on her lips. This was how he treated the woman he supposedly loved. He had attacked her violently. Who would trust him with her?
He walked away in shame like a defeated soldier.
Just as everything was coming together perfectly, he ruined it all with his damned lust.
Looking at her, it was not hard for her father’s men to allude to what happened to her. Her father locked the gates with all the guests trying to find out who hurt his baby girl.
He still remembers the look she gave him. That look still makes him doubt whether she figured out it was him.
She told her father that she willingly slept with that person. She then locked herself in the room.
He came clean. He told them he caused it to Marcella.
Don was so mad he almost killed him with his belt. Donna had to step in. She hugged him and blocked Don’s hits. Otherwise, he’d be dead that day.
If Marcella told the truth that he forced himself on her, Don wouldn’t have gone for the belt; he’d have gone for the gun and he’d be six feet under in an unmarked grave somewhere in the woods.
Even then, she had spared his life.
He was not afraid to face Don’s wrath. He happily accepted every hit on him as penance for hurting his ladylove. He still has those scars as a reminder not to hurt her.
While he was on his knees, as Donna wrapped him in her loving embrace to shield him, Don said those words he always wanted to hear. He had calmed down considerably and kept the belt aside.
’You will marry her!’
He felt no joy hearing those words. Their wedding was supposed to be a joyous event and he had turned it into something that had to be done out of obligation.
He was ashamed of himself.
He was not even surprised when she refused to marry him. Why would any girl agree to marry someone who got violent with her? He tried to talk to her but he was forbidden to enter the house until the wedding.
The truth of his parentage was revealed and even Don changed his mind about the wedding. He had already promised his eldest daughter to Paul Romano’s son and he didn’t want to give his other daughter to the same family too.
He, who was shocked to know of his birth was dealt with another blow that he couldn’t bear.
Marcella hates him and now Don too. Don was like a father to him and he lost him because now he has a father who refused to acknowledge him.
He had no one to turn to as he felt like he was hated by everyone.
