Chapter 235: Lucky

"John Russo," Tony said gently tracing his finger over her lips.

He was proud of himself. She was so serious earlier but now she had forgotten about it. He made her forget everything else by his prowess.

"Oh?" Marcella said. Her excitement got down a notch and she scooted closer to him. "Is he Paul Romano’s cousin?" she asked.

That guy said that she killed his cousin. She killed only one person to her knowledge.

"No," Tony pulled her closer to him holding her butt. He gently kneaded her round derriere. "He was the cousin of that guy your father killed in our final year. Those..."

"Rapists?" Marcella asked. "Ewe! Did he not know what his cousin did? And since when I should answer for my father’s crimes?"

"Never mind him. He will not come near you when you’re there. And he’s too interested in keeping his job. He won’t lose his future for avenging his rapist cousin," Tony said.

Marcella looked into his eyes. His eyes were focused and his voice was steady. She knew he believed what he said. That was enough for her.

She trusted his protective instinct. He would be watching that guy like a hawk and throw him out if he was dishonest.

She leaned on his chest and kissed his Adam’s apple, caressing the scars on his back. Every time she touched the scars, she would remember the hot kiss they shared in the bathroom of Tony’s apartment.

Her lips curved to a smile.

He is mine! This hot guy is mine!

That feeling never changed for her.

Tony was drawing lazy circles on her back and leg. There was one topic he was avoiding to talk about. The last time he talked about it, he messed it up. She didn’t bring it up again but he wanted to clear up the misunderstanding.

"About Beth, I~"

"We don’t have to talk about her, Tony," Marcella’s eyes blinked open and her voice was low.

Tony held the back of her head, observing her every expression in the dim light. "We do not?" he asked.

"No, we need not." Marcella kissed his lips. Closing her eyes, she nuzzled in his neck. She loved his scent.

Tony ran his fingers through her hair. He could feel her. She was relaxed and her breathing was soft and regular. She was not stressed or angry.

He didn’t know if it was right, but she was expressing that she had no desire to discuss her with him. That meant she trusted him. That was enough for him.

"You broke your promise," she said. Her voice was so soft like the high-pitched ring of a mosquito.

Tony’s heart fell. What promise did he break?

Before he managed to ask her, she continued, "I made a promise to protect her life. Will you help me keep the promise?" she asked.

There were not many emotions attached to her as she asked. She was leaning on him limply, almost drifting to sleep. She was telling him her decision.

He was wondering who saved Beth that day. She should have gotten buried by now, but his perfect plan was ruined when someone interfered.

Was it really Marcella’s interference?

He let out a deep breath.

"If that’s what you want, Birdie," he said.

Beth was not worth all the protection. She was the annoying nuisance around him and everything in him wanted to get rid of her.

"You’ve planned something, haven’t you?" he asked looking down at her.

She was already asleep. Tony kissed her forehead.

How did he forget that she was a jealous person? She was the same one who visited his office after hearing Stella’s voice! She was also the one who got so jealous when she saw him talking to Cindy. She was not stupid to ignore Beth’s intentions.

She has planned something!

Tony kissed her lips. Whatever she had planned, he didn’t care. His wife had the right to do what she wanted. She was smart enough to handle anything.

"I am so lucky to have you," he whispered in her ear.

He didn’t care whether she heard it or not.

"Am I?" she opened her eyes groggily.

"Silly," he pinched her cheek. "You weren’t sleeping?"

She tried to smile, but she couldn’t. Her eyes were drooping and she closed her eyes once again. He kissed her lips. She managed to open her eyes to acknowledge that she heard it.

"I still can’t believe I have you, Birdie. How did I find a place in your heart?" he asked.

He couldn’t believe how a smart woman like Marcella would find it in her to love someone like him. He was not the best man out there, although he was a great improvement from that scumbag Aiden.

"By being you, sweet baby..." Marcella whispered.

She was drifting into sleep, but like a distant song, she heard his voice. It was soothing all around her. His voice and his warmth—he was the safe place she always wanted.

What she said was the truth. She should be asking why he fell for her because it was more mysterious. What did he see in her to wait for her that long and appear in her times of need?

She felt him holding her closer and her lips curved up unconsciously. If she was going to have his warmth for the rest of her life, she needed nothing else.

-----

Days passed. They invited everyone to Nicholas’s christening. Her family from Italy too attended the christening. Her uncle was happy beyond measure that another little member had added to the family. The cousin who recently got married was pregnant and that was another good news.

Tony’s career was going well. He tried his best to keep up on his promises to the people. He didn’t think that he had achieved something with this. For him, this was just one more step towards his goal—the White House.

His relentless efforts to bring forth laws that would benefit the people made national news often. As the two years ended, he was well-known to the entire country.

The next election campaign started and Tony didn’t slack off. Since their kids had grown, Marcella too joined Tony in certain towns.

In that election. Tony won with a double-digit lead. The higher-ups were happy that they had turned that district for their party.

Everyone was happy. Marcella was too but she had a little disappointment in her heart.

"You’re pouting," Tony pinched her lower lips and bit it.

"Stop it, liar!" she pushed him. "You keep the promises you make to your constituents but you didn’t give me what I wanted," she pouted.

"What? My wife is upset? That can’t be allowed," Tony grabbed her waist and pulled her closer to him. He was slightly tipsy and it only added to his allure.

"Where is the daughter you promised?" Marcella asked.

Tony’s eyes twinkled with joy. "Let’s make a daughter then!"
