Chapter 233: Helping Each Other

Chapter 233: Helping Each Other

The papers published Natalie’s victory on the front page. The engagement announcement of a popular star took the top half, but still, Natalie’s victory managed to find its place on the first page.

Although Marcella tried to stay away from photographers, some had captured her with Natalie as she was leaving the courthouse. Since Natalie was very grateful to Marcella, a picture of Marcella with Natalie was printed with the news.

They had mentioned her as the youngest congressman Antony Crawford’s wife and Marcella liked that.

That evening, she received news from D.C. that Beth went to meet Tony. Tony called her that night and talked for hours not letting her sleep. He mentioned nothing about Beth.

The next day, however, she got a rare call from Beth. Beth told her that she had a break after her shoot ended in West Virginia and so she went to meet her in D.C.

"I am in NY, now," Marcella said. "What a waste! You could have called me first. Then you could have seen me. It’s the same distance..."

"Something happened," Beth started to whisper completely ignoring Marcella’s previous statement.

"What?" Marcella too whispered.

"On my way to the airport, my taxi met with an accident," Beth said.

"Oh, no! Are you okay?" Marcella asked.

"No, I am fine. It’s... It was nothing. But..."

"But what? Beth, are you okay?" Marcella asked concerned.

"I am fine. For now, but... I think I’ve been stalked. I am... I see dark figures around my manor and... the cops aren’t of much help..." Beth sounded stressed.

"Do you want my help?" Marcella asked.

"Yeah... that’s what I wanted to talk to you about when I met you. But... I missed you... Marcella, I am scared. Someone wants me hurt."

"Who would that be?" Marcella asked. "Is it any of your competitors? Someone who thought you were the reason they’re not getting any roles? Or... Is it one of your fans?"

"Why would my fans want to murder me?"

"It could be the wife of one of your fans who got jealous that their husband likes you and they hired a hitman..." Marcella said.

"Whoa! Hold your horses, Marcella. You’re scaring me!" Beth’s voice shook.

"Fine... I’ll ask my people to look into it," Marcella didn’t think out loud anymore and assured her.

"Can you? Please... please, ask your husband’s help too. I wanted to congratulate him too for winning the election. Too bad I couldn’t meet you two. After the accident, I was so scared and left early." Beth explained.

"About Tony..." Marcella sighed.

"What? Is there a problem?" Beth asked.

"Ah... leave it. I just wanted to talk to you about it, but you already have a lot going on. My issues are not that unsolvable. I’ll handle it..." Marcella tried to avoid talking about it.

But Beth didn’t let go. She wanted to know at all costs. So, Marcella told her how the opposite party higher-ups too weren’t happy that Tony became a congressman so young and within just one try.

"I can handle it for you," Beth said.

"Oh, no, no! I will never ask you to do anything for me, Beth. We can handle our problems. You are having a great career and don’t get involved with the cunning politicians. I wouldn’t like it if you get affected trying to help us," Marcella said.

Beth didn’t listen to her. After talking to her for some time, Beth ended the call. Marcella hung up the phone and leaned on the wall.

Staring at the phone, her lips curled.

"You are not stupid, Marcella..."

Mary’s voice snapped her out of her reverie. Marcella looked at Mary with her eyebrows raised.

Mary chuckled. "You’ve planned something with that b*tch, haven’t you?"

Marcella leaned on Mary’s shoulder. "You think so?"

"I know so," Mary said. "You’re not someone who would allow someone to openly chase your husband."

"But she is my friend. I trust her. I trust my husband too," Marcella said.

"Right, right," Mary laughed. "You’re so believable!"

"Am I not?" Marcella asked. Mary’s laugh was contagious and she started to laugh along with her.

"Your stupid husband might believe you. I have eyes and the heart of a woman. I don’t." Mary patted Marcella’s head. "Show your jealousy to your husband. He would like it."

"You think so?" Marcella’s eyes widened and her caramel eyes had a glimmer in them. "But I feel sorry for him. The poor guy is overworked. He need not handle my jealousy. He won’t be able to handle it if I am honest with him."

Mary just laughed. She knew it and she had no way to refute her. "By the way, you already know who’s stalking her, don’t you?"

Marcella shrugged. "Do I? I’m not sure."

"Right!" Mary gave a knowing look. "Just kill her before she becomes a bigger problem. Although rumors of affairs won’t affect men much, his positive is being a family man. He won because he was a family man and also because of his handsome face," Mary added.

"No!" Marcella pinched Mary’s cheek. "I told you. She is my friend! And my husband didn’t win just because of his handsome face."

"Whatever you say," Mary shook her head.

Marcella winked.

Yes, they are friends. They should help each other, should they not?

Tony returned after a week. Marcella didn’t talk to him about Beth and he didn’t talk to her about her too. Marcella thought she needed to tell him that she was jealous but her pride stopped her.

That night, after dinner, he was doing the dishes as usual. The kids were asleep and Marcella loved the rare silence in the house. Sitting on the counter drying the dishes, she watched her handsome husband.

"Did you send that guy away?" she asked.

She wanted to ask him about it but thought it was a topic to be discussed face-to-face.

Tony stopped. Bowing his head he sighed.

"You didn’t?" Marcella held his arm. She couldn’t believe that he was still letting that guy inside his house. "Tony, that guy is dangerous to have around our kids!"

Tony left the dishes and walked to her. Standing between her legs, he placed his hands on her waist. Her eyebrows were furrowed and her nose was flaring. She definitely was fuming.

It made him smile.

Marcella saw the smile and only got angered.

"What?" she held his hands that were trying to do something. She knew what he wanted. His eyes had turned on with desire.

Now was not the time. She wanted to know the details.
