Chapter 229: Soaring High(2)
Marcella ran upstairs and tried to lock their room but Tony put his foot inside. Marcella didn’t slam the door noticing his foot.
She walked to the window and with a pout, folded her hands over her chest.
"Why are you mad at me?" Tony asked.
He knew the answer but he wanted to hear it from her. Honestly, he didn’t know how he managed to snag the perfect woman for him. He was a jealous person, possibly even obsessed with her; he was not so proud about it but it was the fact. He had to train himself not to hurt Aiden solely because he was dating her.
He still was jealous. When she stared at the actors and the musicians she liked, he didn’t like that. He wouldn’t have stopped her had she agreed to pose for the magazine cover however she wanted to, but he wouldn’t have liked it if she posed half-naked.
She didn’t do that and that relieved him. But that was not the reason for his happiness.
Yes, she mentioned that the wife of a congressman couldn’t be pictured that way and he didn’t like that line of thinking much. Which politician had a hot wife like he did? Who would want to see the wives of other politicians half-naked?
He took it as a compliment that they thought she would look good and make a statement.
What made him happy was how she reacted to that suggestion. She said she slammed the door on their faces. He wanted to laugh out loud. He wished he was a fly on the wall to see her throwing them out.
He loved how she stood on her principles and vocally expressed her views without betraying her true feelings. Neither did she hold back because she was the congressman’s wife nor she feared retribution from the journalists.
This is who he married!
Tony was blissful.
Marcella looked at him and the smile on his face made her forget why she was mad.
"I know there are some who want a taste of me, Tony. In all the parties, I see a few pairs of eyes looking at me with vulgarity. I am not going to feed those pigs even if it would improve your status; which this never will," Marcella said.
She didn’t talk to Tony about it. But she remembered those who looked at her with perverted eyes. Some men couldn’t help it even if their life depended on it. They thought that just because they had money and power, they were entitled to any woman they wanted.
She knew Tony would handle those men and even if they tried something on her, they would face retribution. She wanted to use this chance to tell him that some men in his circle were making her uncomfortable.
Tony let out a deep breath and hugged her. He was not blind. He knew who those men were and he would wait for them to fall into his traps and get annihilated.
"I am not devastated by it," Marcella continued. She was not worried about it. "It is more of an irk than a... I don’t think about them much. So, don’t feel bad," she added.
She didn’t want to make him feel guilty. She didn’t mind those pigs. She knew she was protected. All they could do was to leer at her and nothing more. It made her irked and she felt bad about the women who didn’t have the power to stand up against them. What do those pigs do to their female employees? Sigh!
"One had the audacity to ask me openly if I would share you with him," Tony said.
"What?" Marcella looked at Tony and blinked her eyes. "You’re serious?"
She couldn’t believe someone would make such an indecent proposal without any shame.
"He talked about swinging...
"Wait... is it that guy from... California, the one who kept on bragging about his Rolex watch?" Marcella asked. She forgot his name.
"How did you..." Tony knitted his brows. But he couldn’t help but admire her. Her situational awareness was exceptional and he was thankful she was smart enough to deal with the troubles around them.
"His wife kept on talking to me about how smart and handsome you are. I was awed by how open she was in expressing her desire for you. She also kept on talking about these "parties" they had where they all had a good time. She insinuated that psychedelics were involved."
Tony hugged her and kissed her head. "It’s a whole new world out here, Birdie...Makes me wonder if we should stay right where we are... away from this filth..."
Marcella hugged him back. "We cannot burn the house for the bedbugs, Tony. We should be focused on the future. That guy is the exception, not the rule. We can ignore people like him. We are not here to make friends," she said.
Yes, it would be uncomfortable to live among those types of men. But what else can they do? They cannot run and hide. Those types of men who take advantage of people are everywhere. All they could do was push forward.
"I can handle these puny troubles, Tony. I am stronger than that. Know that I will not suffer. I will find a way to handle it. If I can’t, I will definitely come to you for help. Trust me," she said looking into his eyes.
She had already found a way to deal with pesky men like that. She will not lose her integrity and peace for scum like that.
"I know," Tony hugged her. His heart was soaring high with happiness. A good wife makes a good life.
"I will have to go back tomorrow," Marcella reminded him. She sighed seeing Tony’s smile reducing. He must have forgotten about it.
"I need to be there for Natalie’s court case. Tomorrow is the judgment. I want to be there."
"Oh?" Tony only then remembered about it.
He knew she had a higher probability of winning. The juries were siding with Natalie as the lawyer touched their heartstrings. Seeing the buffy, terrifying biker gang people supporting Natalie only increased her support. He hoped the judge would grant millions in damages.
"But I will miss you. I don’t want to miss you, ever..." he whined and hugged her.
Marcella chuckled burying her head in his chest. "It’s fine. I hear Beth is here. She rarely finds time to meet me but she has time for you always. She’ll keep you company."
There was no change in Marcella’s tone. Tony’s hand holding Marcella shook and his grip loosened. Marcella tried to leave and Tony held her hand to have a look at her face.
