Chapter 227: His Love Language
Chapter 227: His Love Language
Marcella was discharged from the hospital on the third day. She was feeling sore all over but that was to be expected considering she just gave birth.
Joey wanted to ride with her in the wheelchair. He missed her after being unable to be with her for two whole days. He didn’t let go of her even though Tony tried to get him. Marcella hugged him to his heart’s content. He was not planning on letting her go and Marcella didn’t mind.
When they got home, Marcella spent some time with Joey and helped him accustomed to his baby brother. She didn’t want a jealous big brother in her home. She taught Joey to do little things, like getting the diaper for his baby brother and he loved doing it.
He loved being a help for his mommy. Tony too brought him out in the evening and played with him. Joey didn’t feel ignored after the arrival of his little brother. Along with a little helper, Marcella got the most perfect toddler ever to exist, in Joey.
She made sure to let Joey know how much of a help he was for her. He would smile sweetly and his chin would pint up with pride. She didn’t know what she did to deserve such a perfect boy.
Tony was busy. Mostly because of her hormones that were going haywire, he tried to keep everything to himself. Marcella didn’t have the energy to think about Tony or his work for almost a week. She didn’t know what he did in the mornings but he always returned home before dinner and most of the time, he did the cooking and the cleaning. He also put Joey to bed and found time to massage her legs.
"Are you a superhuman?" Marcella asked. Although she said it as a joke, she seriously doubted how he had that much energy.
"I am one when I need to be one," he smiled.
He should have gotten over the pain she went through to give birth to the baby but he couldn’t. It stayed fresh in his mind although she insisted that she had forgotten it. He wanted to help her in any way he could so that she could rest.
And, no more babies. They have two sons and that was more than enough.
After helping Marcella to the bed, Tony got inside the duvet. "I’ll have to go to D.C. this week. The party heads want to talk to me and discuss stuff. I have back-to-back meetings. It would take at least a week even if I push through." He sounded apologetic.
Marcella nodded. She knew this was coming and it was necessary. "What is it?" Marcella held his hand. "You don’t look happy you won."
Tony let out a deep breath. He took a peek at the baby sleeping beside Marcella’s side of the bed. Like with Joey, they were letting the baby sleep beside them. He found that arrangement to be bearable since he didn’t want Marcella to walk to the nursery each time the baby cried.
Although he did everything to help her when he was awake, once he slept, he blacks out entirely. He had never helped her with the baby at night and she didn’t complain. He tried to be more attentive but he failed.
He lay on Marcella’s lap. Marcella gently caressed his hair and watched his lips curve up. It had been a while since they’d been intimate like this.
"I should have waited until the next election. I don’t find it right to leave you alone for a long period with two young children to look after. I feel like I am not doing enough for our family..." he hugged her abdomen. Her abdomen was a little cushiony. Her belly was still big after giving birth. He didn’t want to hurt her so he didn’t squeeze her hard.
Marcella bent and kissed his head. She didn’t want to shout at him like she did when he talked similar when he was on his campaign tour.
This is the man she married!
Ever since she knew him, he helped her in one way or another. She thought he didn’t love her but when he appeared in front of her whenever she needed, she didn’t find it odd.
That was how much it was ingrained in him to be her support!
He found it hard to express it with words, and he expressed his love through his act of service all his life. That was how he expressed his love. That was his love language.
When he couldn’t serve her as he wanted to, he felt guilty and thought that he was not loving her like he was supposed to. Maybe his past insecurities act alongside.
She didn’t want him to feel less just because he was not right beside her and supported her like in the past. She was trying to talk to him about it but it had become his habit and it won’t change overnight. She needed to wait patiently.
Also, was it a bad habit to be rid of? She was not sure. She was used to getting served by him. Yeah, she was selfish!
"It is going to be hard, Tony," she spoke gently caressing his hair. She loved doing it and she knew it lifted his spirits when she did that. Her husband turned to a boy time and time again and when that happened, she loved to pamper him.
She saw him pouting with all the guilt on his shoulder and gently rubbed his earlobe.
"But it is part and parcel of life. No matter what career you have, leaving the family to travel will be inevitable. I can manage it fine. I have a lot of support. I literally have a village to raise our kids," she said.
She could have asked him if he didn’t trust her to handle everything on her own. But she didn’t want to. Being with him for years, he had proved time and time again how much he valued her. She didn’t want to hurt him.
"I know you can manage. But I..." Tony sighed.
"Silly boy," Marcella pinched his cheek. "We’ll be fine. Our family... us..." She placed her hand on his chest. "We all will be fine."
"I know," Tony said looking at her. He cupped her cheeks. "I know my Birdie will take good care of everything."
His eyes had gotten bright. That was what Marcella needed.
She always thought that being in love is an affectionate feeling. But maybe she was wrong. Maybe this is what love is; to be for each other and wish for the best of the other as long as possible; to stay together.
He worried for her and she worried for him. Not just that, they do everything to make the other person comfortable and at ease.
This is the best way of loving, she thought.
"I love you, Tony," she said.
Tony smiled. "And I love you, Birdie."
