Chapter 225: Happiness Overload

Chapter 225: Happiness Overload

"I want to leave it to you. You gave me two sons and with your help, I won the election. But I want you to think about my suggestion. I want people to remember Don DeAngelo for a long time," Tony held her hand.

Marcella agreed to Tony’s suggestion. She wanted her father’s name to succeed. Her eyes clouded seeing the smile on his face. He meant every word of what he said. He was the one who gave her everything and yet, he never took her for granted. She couldn’t help but think about Aiden for a moment.

Aiden berated her for who her father was and made her regret living at times. He blamed her for his slow progress in politics and made her believe that everything was her fault.

And here he is... her man, sweet baby Tony!

He did not need to give suggestions. He had that right. And yet, he gave her priority. More than that, he could win while he was married to the same daughter of a mafia lord Aiden said was his chains, and Tony had the heart and guts to name his son after the vulnerable name.

"What is it?" Tony asked cupping her cheeks. "Does it hurt still?"

Marcella shook her head. "No. No, Tony. I’m happy..."

The frown line between Tony’s eyes disappeared and he smiled. "I too am happy, Birdie... Thank you... Thank you for falling in love with me. You gave me everything."

"I did?" she raised her brows.

"Yes, you did. Look at you..." he gently placed his hand on her belly. "Who else would have done this for me?"

Marcella could only chuckle. Yeah, she gave birth. So what? Women have been doing it for millennia. If women had stopped doing it, the human race would have gone extinct.

Joey was already asleep and she didn’t want to disturb him for the night. They could show his little brother to him in the morning.

Marcella asked Tony to meet his people first and celebrate his victory. She wanted to spend extravagantly for them. This was a day to rejoice and she didn’t want to be stingy while celebrating. She learned to spend for the loyal ones from her father.

Tony didn’t want to leave her. He only left after she assured him that there were nurses to look after her for the few hours he’d be gone. Even then, he left only after Mary came there. Mary wanted to see the baby and she wanted to stay with her in case she needed anything.

Marcella was too tired to stay awake and just as she was about to doze off, the baby cried.

"He’s hungry," Mary picked up baby Nick and brought him to Marcella. "See how loud he is..." She chuckled. "Such a pretty boy."

"He looks just like his father, isn’t he?" Marcella said.

"Yeah... most babies do. Let’s see if the pretty blue in his eyes stays," Mary gently placed the baby in her arms.

"His eyes won’t stay blue forever?" Marcella was shocked.

"That’s not..." Mary was stunned by Marcella’s reaction. "You really love your husband so much, huh?" she asked.

Marcella smiled. "I do." She had no problem confessing it everywhere. When her husband confesses his love through his actions, the least she can do is use her words to proclaim her love.

"Most mothers would want their baby to look like them after what they went through. You are odd," Mary sat beside her. "Look at you..." Mary smiled seeing her shirt.

Marcella noticed that her blouse was wet with milk. Her breasts were heavy and it happened all at once the baby started crying.

"Nature is amazing, isn’t it?" Mary said. "The bond between a baby and a mother is wonderous."

Marcella had to agree. Maybe she was high on hormones and happiness, but she felt the bond between the baby and her. The baby nuzzled his head close to her chest and opened his little mouth trying to catch something.

"You are hungry, aren’t you?" Marcella kissed the boy. He didn’t want her to kiss. He wanted his milk.

The nurse came in at that time and taught Marcella how to prepare the formula. Marcella already knew that but the nurse talked to her about the new formula and how it was much better than breastmilk.

Marcella had nothing against scientific advancements and she was sure that the formula was a boon to those who cannot breastfeed. But she didn’t want to feed him formula when she had milk.

The nurse was not happy to hear that and she tried to guilt Marcella into changing her mind. She made it appear that only poor people with no other way to feed their babies would feed them breastmilk and people who want the best for their babies would feed them formula. Marcella was stunned when she made it into a class thing.

Mary shooed the nurse away sensing Marcella’s discomfort in further engaging in the conversation.

"I fed all my babies breastmilk. Imagine thinking that breastmilk is not enough. The human race never would have seen the geniuses and warriors we know," Mary said with a grumble.

Marcella agreed with Mary. Why look for substitutes when nature is abundant? She had to feed Joey formula because she had no other choice. She didn’t have to do the same for Nick.

Mary taught Marcella how to properly hold the baby while feeding and the baby had a good latch.

The baby had his fill. He burped only after Marcella patted him just twice. She decided to breastfeed him until she had enough. She could monitor his growth and if breastfeeding was not enough, she could add formula to his diet.

She looked into his eyes. His watery eyes looked at her without blinking. "Mary, do you think his eye color will change as he grows?" she asked.

She still couldn’t believe that she made this angelic being in her arms.

Mary smiled not knowing how to answer. She had seen a lot of babies and most of their eyes changed as they grew, unless they had brown eyes.

"I don’t think so," Mary said, not wanting to disappoint the new mother.

She had enough training looking after Joey and after a few minutes, the baby fell asleep. Mary got the baby and put him to sleep in the bassinet beside the bed.

"I am happy, Mary... I have everything, " Marcella smiled as Mary tucked her in the bed. She had a happiness overload.

"That is good. It is good to be happy," Mary patted her head. She couldn’t help but smile.
