Chapter 182: Searching
Chapter 182: Searching
"Bambina..."
Henry walked to her.
Marcella snapped out of her reverie. Her hands were shaking.
"Henry!" she shook him again. "Can you drive?"
She needed courage. She couldn’t believe what she heard.
"I can... Bambina, is something~"
"Henry, gather everyone you can and...follow me...It’s Tony."
She rushed into the basement. Henry was followed by Randy. Marcella picked up the weapons in there. She got herself a couple of handguns and a load of ammo.
"Arm yourself and call the cops. No, I’ll call the cops," she said and rushed out.
"I am coming with you too, Bambina," Randy followed her.
"No!" Marcella shook her head. "No, Randy. You are going to stay here and guard Joey with all that you have," she held his shoulders and her eyes met with his.
"By all, I mean ALL. You use everything at your disposal and protect Joey. Do you hear me?" she asked.
Randy nodded. "What’s wrong, Bambina? Is it Romano?" he asked.
Marcella sighed and rushed out. She then rushed in and picked up her purse. Making an emergency call to the cops knowing that would do nothing, she rushed out.
Henry came out and shouted at Marcella to stop. But she zoomed out of the courtyard in her car. He made some calls to his men and with each call, he got despondent.
"I can’t reach any of them. Something huge is happening, Randy," he looked at Randy.
’Get to Bambina. Protect her at all cost," Randy pushed Henry out.
After Henry left, Randy checked on the security men of the house and armed them more. He told them to shoot anyone and everyone who got one foot inside the compound.
Under Randy’s instruction, Rosy packed everything needed for Joey. Randy then locked her safe in the bunker in the basement. Don DeAngelo had that bunker built for emergencies and it had a tunnel system that would take them out if everything went out of hand.
But none of it mattered if Mark Paulo was the one coming for them. Mark Paulo knew where the tunnels led to. For now, the best they can do is keep them safe inside the bunker and protect the house at all costs.
Marcella’s heart was racing. Mark Paulo was the one who called her.
"Get your husband from the Romano guest house if you can!"
That’s all he said.
The Romano family had a guest house near the beach. Marcella floored the accelerator. She looked at the rearview mirror and she couldn’t see Henry anywhere.
She didn’t care. She needed to get to her husband before anything happened to him.
This could all very well be a trap!
That thought did cross her mind. What Paul wanted more than anything was Joey. It could very well be a setup to get the both of them away from the house to steal Joey. Tony left the house on his own volition. Something must have happened.
She didn’t have to worry about Joey. Joey is safe for now. All she needed to do was to find her husband and bring him home.
It took her more than an hour for her to reach the place. The entire street was empty and she could see the Romano house far inside, closer to the beach. He owned a lot of land there and his house was standing alone.
Marcella stood in front of the big iron gate. The side gate was open which would allow her to walk in. The big gate was closed. It was as if someone left that gate open for her to enter.
Walking in there with nothing to cover her wouldn’t be a good idea, she knew.
She killed the engine and took a look around. There was a hedge lining and shrubs all around. Nothing looked out of the ordinary. But there could very well be snipers hiding behind the bushes.
Paul was someone who got his son and daughter-in-law tortured and killed. It would be nothing for him to hire snipers to kill her.
She leaned on the steering wheel.
She listened closely if she could hear any sirens. But no, just as she expected, no cop would come here to pester Romano; not even for Tony Crawford. Now she could confirm that something was going wrong. Tony must be inside the house.
Can her car ram through the gate?
She didn’t waste time by thinking. Tony was bragging about the bumpers he installed in her car. It was for her safety, he said. She hoped that the car would withstand gunfire.
She started the car and without thinking twice, floored the accelerator. Turned out, the bumpers Tony bragged about were strong. The gates flew open and her car zoomed in.
She expected to be bombarded with flying bullets. She even drove keeping her head down. But nothing of that sort happened. Her car smoothly went through the asphalt laid over the beach sand and even when she slowed down, there was no movement around.
She looked around for Tony’s car and she saw nothing. The door of the house was locked and it looked like no one was in the house.
Is this a trap?
Marcella slowly peeked out through the window. The bushes were swaying in the sea breeze and nothing was out of the ordinary. She did notice a couple of security cameras on the premises.
Everything looked normal. It could very well be a setup to charge her for trespassing. She did think that. But her heart couldn’t agree.
Something didn’t feel right. She had a feeling Tony was in there.
She picked up the handguns she had and alighted from the car. She decided to check inside the house, just to be sure. If it was a setup, she would get the same sentence if she broke through the main gate and the house.
She walked to the door carefully. She scoffed seeing the large Corinthian columns in the front porch.
What a showoff!
She walked to the door while observing everything. There was no sign of anyone anywhere and she observed the gap bettern the door and the floor.
