Chapter 180: Giving Up And Standing Firm
Marcella faced Tony as they lay on the bed. He didn’t give her any answer regarding her cousin’s wedding. She figured that he wouldn’t be able to come. She preferred he would come. It’s respectful for her to attend the wedding with her husband than without him.
She didn’t tell him that though. She had promised him that she would try her best for him. Also, it might not be a big deal if he didn’t come. It’s her family’s function and he might feel left out.
But it would be a perfect chance for everyone to get to know each other!
No matter what excuses she came up with, she ended up wishing for him to come to the wedding. Maybe she was thinking too much. He might need some time to decide. The wedding was in the spring after all!
"Not tired?" she asked as he stared at her.
"No," he pulled her closer and hugged her. Tony was waiting for something. He wanted to get her in the mood. She looked like she wanted to fall asleep.
As for the wedding, he didn’t have any desire to go. He needed to handle a lot. Maybe in her absence, he can weed out the pests by their garden to protect his home. Her absence would be a boon for him to settle everything here.
"Do you want to stay in Italy for a while? I heard weddings there could be a festival," he asked.
Marcella hummed. "Maybe we can take the scenic route. A cruise to cross the ocean, and a train ride across Europe. We can visit the Scottish Highlands, the castles in England, Versailles..."
She closed her eyes and took in a deep breath. "It’s such a shame. I have all the money and yet I haven’t left the state for a long time... It shouldn’t be like this."
She said all these words in an attempt to let him know that she wanted him to come with her.
"Should I book a cruise for you?" Tony asked.
"For me? Alone?" she looked at him. She couldn’t believe that her smart husband who was understanding of her all the time had failed to read her mind this time around.
Tony nodded. That confirmed it.
"It won’t be fun without you." She voiced her disappointment.
"Oh, Birdie..." he kissed her head. "I wish I could go on a long trip with you, but~"
"I understand," she patted his chest. She knew she was asking too much from him when she asked him for a long trip. She got excited on her own this time.
From the moment her uncle called, although she tried to control her excitement, she couldn’t. She imagined taking pictures with him in all of the wonders of the world, she imagined all the journeys they were going to take. It felt like the right time for her. They couldn’t go for a honeymoon but now Joey had grown; it would be possible.
But Tony was right. He couldn’t put his work on hold and go on a journey with her.
Tony felt her hold on him loosening. She rolled on her back leaving a space between them. Her eyes were drooped and he knew that she was sad about his decision. Why wouldn’t she? He was the one at fault here.
But he cannot leave the country for more than a week when the elections are coming. He needed to lay a strong foundation in this election only then he would have a chance in the next election. With Paul Romano planning something, he cannot leave the country for a wedding.
He had the perfect chance to handle Paul Romano once and for all. He probably wouldn’t get another chance like this again.
He held her hand. She must be disappointed; she didn’t hold him back.
"How about this?" he rubbed the back of her hand. "You can go there early. I’ll join you on the day of the wedding. We can return together," he said.
He found that to be the better compromise. He can give three days for her.
"Really?" her eyes widened.
Tony nodded.
"Thank you, Tony!" Marcella hugged him. She had pacified herself thinking that her workaholic husband would not come to the wedding. She was touched he agreed to come to the wedding himself.
"I love you!" she kissed him.
"I’m only doing the least here," Tony patted her head. "Not the model husband..."
"I still love you," Marcella smiled.
She was glad she wouldn’t be alone at the wedding. She wouldn’t have to make excuses to her relatives and apologize for her husband’s absence. She could spend a couple of days with him in another country.
Tony’s heart settled seeing her smile. She was genuinely happy. He couldn’t believe how little things make her this happy. With a smirk, he climbed on top of her.
"What?" Marcella held his hand as it reached for her chest.
"You don’t know?" Tony bit her lips. "Naughty... You want me to spell it out?"
He bit her chin.
"No!" she pushed him back.
"What?" Tony was shocked. He didn’t expect that she would push him violently. "You don’t want to?"
"No," Marcella said.
"Why?" Tony asked. He was shocked and hurt. Why would she say that?
"Are you hurt?" he asked.
She was not on her period. Other than that, he couldn’t think of a reason for her refusal. That too, she refused so openly.
’No, no..." Marcella patted him. She still didn’t hug him.
"It’s... " she averted her eyes.
"Birdie, are you angry with me?" Tony asked.
"No. It’s not... Some said that it would be good to do it on certain days... You know, to get pregnant..."
Tony blinked.
What kind of fresh hell is that?
"You want to keep away from me to get pregnant? How will that work? Birdie, come on..." he wrapped her closely.
Has his wife gone mad?
"No, Tony. Listen to me..." Marcella’s voice was strict.
She was not going to give up on this issue. She was going to stand firm.
