Flash Marriage: Shrewd Wife, Devious Husband -
Chapter 112: Returning Feelings
Chapter 112: Returning Feelings
The next morning, Tony was in a good mood as he waited for his breakfast. The coffee was brewed and there was fresh orange juice on the table. All that’s left is for his wife to join him.
Marcella woke up earlier that day in the hopes of catching him before he left. She wanted to send him off with a kiss. She can’t be sleeping in every morning. That’s not a good look.
Turned out, he didn’t have to leave early that morning, after all. Marcella served the sausage egg bake. She waited to see Tony’s reaction. He buried his head in and she smiled knowing that he loved it.
It was her father’s favorite breakfast. He used to make that all the time. At times, they would complain asking him to cook something else. But he never listened to them.
"The bill is going to be sent to voting in the Senate next week," Tony spoke only after finishing his plate.
"You finished drafting it? That’s good. Congratulations! You want another serving?" she asked. He had licked the plate clean.
"No... I am not used to eating breakfast. The last time I ate breakfast regularly was when we were in school... You followed Don’s recipe, didn’t you? It’s so perfect!" He smiled gleefully; she could see the fine lines in the corners of his eyes.
"You’ll be leaving for Washington, then?" she asked.
"Yes... For a day or two, you’ll have to be alone... I’ll arrange for your~"
"I can manage," she said. "You don’t have to worry."
"We can move to your family home after I return. Is that okay with you? It would be much safer for you if you stay in an apartment than in that estate."
Marcella nodded. He has thought about it. He didn’t tell her this last night though. It’s like his mind was occupied with something else the whole night.
She didn’t mind. He probably thought about this arrangement in the shower. He does like to spend a lot of time in the bathroom.
"I have to prepare the congressman’s speech today," he ran his fingers through his hair.
Marcella looked at Tony. He was not complaining but was excited about it. He is on record the Chief of Staff of the Congressman. But he writes the congressman’s speeches? Also, the power he holds around the city... "You are the congressman and he’s your puppet, isn’t he? Is it by design or~"
"He’s just lazy. His father wanted to see him as a congressman and he ran only for that reason He has no great interest in everything that comes with it. He just wants to be the face, that’s all. I am not even sure that he will run the next term. He hates those vultures in DC.," he looked at Marcella with a smile. "Puppeteer? You think I am that devious?"
"Is there a doubt?" Marcella asked.
Tony laughed holding his abdomen. "God! I love you!"
Marcella laughed with him. Tony is a hard worker. No wonder he has the power to do what he wants. NO wonder he attracted the eye of the FBI. The ones in power must be rattled by his rise.
"I will see it that you reach the highest power on the land, Tony," she said holding his hand. "I will work behind you."
"I don’t need you behind me, Marcella. I have a lot of followers. I want you with me, Birdie, right by my side where it is easier to lay my head to rest...When I am weary, I want to rest on your shoulders... I want your support that way. As a resting place, as a mother, as an advisor... By my side..."
He kissed her.
"Okay," Marcella patted his chest. "I will be right by your side. You can count on me."
Tony left for work and Marcella too got ready. Maybe she can work till the end of the month and get her whole month’s salary—her last salary, perhaps.
Gloria noticed the smile on her face and she figured out that she’s taken the relationship with her husband to the next level. The entire morning, Marcella had to endure Gloria’s teasing and puns.
With just five minutes to lunchtime, their supervisor came to Marcella and told her that she had a visitor. Marcella was not told who the visitor was. She arranged her desk before meeting with her mystery visitor.
It was lunch already and she saw her supervisor telling Gloria something. And soon the entire room was filled with murmurs. Marcella ignored them and walked to the lobby and she was in for a surprise.
Tony was standing with a single red rose in his hand. The navy blue suit, the blue tie, his blue eyes that twinkled, and his perfect smile...
I am seeing an angel... Marcella couldn’t believe her eyes.
How can there be such a perfect person in this earth? And how on earth did I manage to marry him?
Seeing her, he gave an exaggerated bow. "Care to join me for lunch, Milady?" he asked.
Marcella heard the giggles and murmurs from her co-workers but she didn’t bother to look at them. Why should she? Her husband came to see her with a flower!
Her husband came for a visit!
"Tony!" Marcella ran and hugged him. "Of course, I will."
She got the rose and smelled it. "Oh, you shouldn’t have... It smells so wonderful!"
"Don’t mind her, Mr. Crawford. She doesn’t truly say you shouldn’t have bought the rose for her. She’s just trying to make us all jealous!" Gloria shouted from afar.
"She can hear us?" Marcella mumbled.
Tony waved his hand at his coworkers and they took it as an invitation to join them.
"Take us out on lunch, Mr. Crawford," Gloria asked shamelessly.
Others joined her too.
"Sure, why not?" Tony gestured for them to come with them.
Marcella turned and smiled at them. It did make her proud to see her husband give her a flower in front of her colleagues and then take them out for lunch.
I married the best man out there! Ha!
Marcella walked with her head held high. Tony took them to a fairly expensive restaurant. Her colleagues were polite and ordered just what they need. They also charged Tony with questions. Tony politely answered them.
Their colleagues left after lunch.
"Did you feel proud of me, wifey?" Tony whispered in her ear.
Marcella almost jumped as he leaned closer to her out of nowhere. "I did," she told the truth. "But I feel a little bad that you had to spend a lot," she pouted.
"It’s nothing," he waved his hand. "I wanted to return the feeling you gave me when you came to my office."
"I just brought muffins. You fed an entire department," Marcella said.
One of these things is not like the other.
"You also cleaned my room. Stella is still impressed. And I had my dream kiss," he raised his voice.
"Shush, Tony," Marcella shushed him. Although no one would listen to their conversation, he cannot shout it all out.
Tony laughed. "What a prude!"
"Should I make out with you in public? Will you feel better then?" she asked.
"I wouldn’t mind," Tony shrugged. Why would he feel ashamed to kiss his wife in public?
Marcella didn’t want to argue with him. If she did, she would only fail. He’s a shameless man. She can never stoop down to his shamelessness.
"Mmm... Here..." Tony dragged her to a bench and shuffled through his briefcase. "Here, choose one from the four."
"You managed to get the wedding invitations?" she asked.
"I didn’t forget," he looked at her with a smile. Although his forehead was devoid of blemishes, she could see "Praise me" written on his forehead.
"Good boy, Tony," she rubbed his hair.
She thought he would get offended as she accidentally used the tone she uses on Joey, but he looked pretty satisfied and exhilarated.
What a weird guy!
"You have an awesome taste, Tony!"
She couldn’t believe that his tastes were similar to hers.
"Those are your tastes, Birdie... Even the fonts," he pointed at her. "I thought we should do it your way. And cake. You should choose a cake."
"I almost forgot!" Marcella hit her forehead.
"Here... Stella made the checklist for the wedding party," Tony handed her over a checklist.
Marcella went through it quickly. It was perfect.
"Thank Stella for me, Tony," she kissed him. She was happy she got this great help from Stella.
Tony watched her face without blinking. He was glad to see her smiling and getting excited about their wedding party. She still stares blankly at the floor at times without even realizing it. Slowly, she can get over her grief and live her life happily.
There was a reason he told her that he wanted to return the feelings he got. He’s confessed to her a lot of times and she did nothing more than acknowledge his feelings.
He wanted her to return his feelings soon.
He can wait. There is no hurry. He knew she had only him in her heart and one day, she would tell him what he longed to hear.
That day, he will be the luckiest b*stard in this whole world.
-----
Tony insisted on walking Marcella back to the office and she didn’t refuse. She wanted to walk hand in hand with him.
They didn’t even take a few steps but they were blocked by a white van with tinted windows.
Before Tony could react, both of them were pulled inside the van and the van sped off.
