Flash Marriage: Shrewd Wife, Devious Husband
Chapter 109: His Other Side

Chapter 109: His Other Side

"Why not?" Marcella asked. "Why can’t I do what I want?"

"Do you really want to~" Tony sighed. He pursed the fingers of both his fingers in front of her face. "That’s your family home! I can’t... I don’t understand what... Marcella..."

Although he sounded calm, the gestures and his eyes told her that he was mad.

"Yes, it is," she said. "And now that Dad is gone and it is left to me, I can do what I want to do with it. I have the money," she shrugged.

"Money! Is money the~" Tony took a full circle with his hands spread. Maybe he tried to calm himself down.

He then looked at her bending to her level. "Marcella, is this really you?" he asked. "I don’t think you are... It’s not you."

His lips were twitching and she could see the distance and confusion in his eyes. He was struggling to keep himself calm.

"Are you mad?" she asked.

"No!" he shouted and stood straight. He walked to the kitchen and poured him a glass of whiskey. "Yes, I am mad. I will not let you do that to your family home. I think I can do that. I am your husband. I am the head of the household and I..." he pointed at her. "I forbid you to move a single brick in that house."

Marcella couldn’t hold back her laughter. "You invoked your "leader of the house" badge!" she laughed.

"You’re laughing. Why are you laughing?" Tony walked to her.

"Get back. You stink!" she pushed on his chest playfully.

"You are...Were you playing with me?" he held her shoulders.

Marcella laughed and tears fell down her cheeks as she laughed so hard. "I am not going to teardown my family house, Tony. How can I? My dad built it brick by brick on his own; Well, not technically, but everything has his input in it. And... we have a lot of fond memories in that house, don’t we?" she leaned forward with his hand holding her cheek.

Tony let out a deep breath and gulped down the whiskey. "You scared me there for a moment, Birdie. I was..."

"You were mad. And you are not going to let me do whatever I want. You will invoke your "head of the household" title when I don’t make sense," she smiled. "You are cute."

"Were you testing me?" he asked.

"Yeah... I wanted to know how much you value the past... I am glad you’re the same man as the boy you were, Tony...Me on the other hand... I am not the same."

"Silly," he knocked her head gently. "You’re the same... with me. I too have changed, just not with you... You were and are and will be the most important person in my life," he kissed her.

Marcella looked into his eyes. In the past, she couldn’t meet his eyes for more than a few seconds. But everything had changed between them and she couldn’t take her eyes off him.

"Do you want to move there?" he asked.

Marcella raised her brows. "You want to move," she said. It was fairly apparent on his face.

"Yes. I want to be there... We can start our family where your parents lived happily. Your father would have loved that idea," he said. "I love that place. That’s where I met you," he kissed her.

Marcella held the back of his head and his kiss intensified.

"Are you hungry?" he asked letting go of her lips for a moment.

"Not ver~"

Before she finished, he carried her to the bedroom.

-----

"I think we should get a new bed," Marcella ran her finger through his chest hair. "It creaks so badly I am surprised how Joey’s isn’t waking up to the noise."

She could hear his heart right under her ear and she loved the rhythm.

"He can get used to it," Tony said in a dismissive tone.

Marcella rolled her eyes. This guy always pretends to not care for the well-being of the little one but she knew he loves the baby as much as she loves him.

"I’ve been thinking," Tony said drawing lazy circles on her back.

"Should we adopt Joey?" he asked.

Marcella lifted her head up to look at his face. This is a serious matter and she wanted to know if he was serious or just jesting.

"You think so?" she asked. "But he’s your brother’s only son. We cannot take that away from him."

Joey is Andrew and Mellissa’s son they got after years of waiting. Marcella wanted to let Joey know how much his parents wanted him and loved him. She loved the boy and that was the reason she didn’t want to "steal" him away from his parents.

"I mean...Think about it... He’s only going to know you and me. It would be confusing for the boy as he grows up wondering why he doesn’t have a father and mother like the others. We cannot tell him that he does not have a mother and father while all his friends do..."

"I get it..." Marcella patted his chest.

Tony grew up as an orphan and he knows how tough it is.

"But it’s common knowledge what happened to his parents. Someone will tell him the truth. Wouldn’t he be hurt then? Wouldn’t he get mad at us for lying to him about being his parents?" she asked.

"We can tell him the truth once he’s old enough to understand. Until then, maybe we should raise him as our own, as the eldest brother of our kids. You’ll be his "Mommy" and I’ll be his "Daddy". Can we think about that?" he asked.

Marcella nodded. So, it’s not his decision. It’s his suggestion. She didn’t know what to do. In the end, the best decision would be what is best for the baby. He’ll be the one getting affected more. They should make a decision having him solely on their mind.

Marcella leaned on his chest and he gently caressed her hair. Hearing his heartbeat, she smiled.

He’s thinking about everything... He worries just like I do...

They might think differently, but the common factor is that they care for Joey. They have some time to think about it.

She didn’t know whether Tony wanted to be serious about adopting Joey legally. Then they will have to change his name. Joey wouldn’t be a Romano by name anymore. He’ll become a Crawford.

Is that what Tony wants?

"John Emerson does not have a good opinion about Paul Romano... I was told you may doubt Paul Romano for my sister’s death?" she asked. Then she remembered. "And your brother’s death?"

Tony said nothing but his fingers caressing her hair paused for a moment before resuming.

"I don’t think he’s that hard-hearted to put his son’s life in danger for whatever reason," Marcella said. She believed that to be the case.

"I think Andrew was not supposed to get abducted and... Everyone involved in the kidnapping is dead, Birdie... Someone’s cleaning house and..."

"Paul Romano had help," Marcella said.

If Paul Romano was involved, he wouldn’t have done it himself. He’s too snobby for getting into low-level shit like that. He would have hired someone to do his dirty work.

"Some East Asian gangs are getting a foothold in the city at the same time Asian conglomerates are getting a foothold here," Tony said.

"Putrid Harley..." Marcella sighed.

Harley had a lot of connections when he was in the war. Especially, when he went to fight for democracy in an East Asian country, he got the connections of the crime families there. He must have brought them back.

"They are buying real estate near the ports. Your father left a big gap after his passing. Now they are taking over," Tony said.

"You said they were killed. Were all of them Asians?" she asked.

Tony nodded. "They were. Mostly done in the execution style of the drug cartels."

"Are you sure they were the ones?" Marcella asked. It’s getting more complicated.

"They work with the gangs here. Some tried to join with the lucky pirates but I didn’t let them. They are ruthless, Marcella. They are well-organized with no space for stupidity or disobedience. They slaughter like... They are scary with a knife."

"Don’t your guys skin people?" Marcella asked.

"But they don’t care about family either," Tony squeezed her closer. "We don’t go for the family. They do. They spare no one. Their boss has no morals and they follow his word as law. He wants to bring chaos all around."

Marcella kissed his chest. She understood why he thought that he needed a gang to protect her.

He was worried for her safety and she cared for his future. This gang he runs will come to haunt him in the future. It will stand in the way of his ambitions.

"I can’t lose you, Marcella..." he said.

Marcella scooted closer to his face and kissed his cheek.

"Mclaughlin wanting to meet me... Is this about that other gang?" Marcella asked.
