Chapter 103: Already In Love
Chapter 103: Already In Love
Marcella woke up to the bright sun falling into the room. She checked the time and she had just enough time to get ready for office. She didn’t remember walking to the bedroom. And she was wearing clothes—his clothes.
Did he dress me and carry me in?
Marcella’s lips curved and she turned to the side and hugged his pillow. He’s been leaving early every day and she figured he might have left already. She smelled his shirt and it had a beautiful scent. She wanted to stay there forever. She deliberated whether she should go to work that day.
In the end, she decided to go. She was well-rested and she was happy. She wanted to share her happiness with the only friend she had.
She got down from the bed and only then she noticed that Joey was not in the crib.
Wait... Is the clock not working? Is Rosy here already?
Wearing her robe, she walked out of the bedroom to be met with the sweet fragrance of freshly made pancakes. She walked to the living room to see Tony feeding Joey.
"Ah, you’re up," Tony smiled. "I was going to surprise you with breakfast in bed."
"Consider me surprised, Tony... What are you doing?" she walked to him and kissed his cheek. She gently caressed little Joey’s head. She couldn’t help it although she didn’t want to interrupt his feeding time.
"He was awake. I figured I would help him fall back asleep without disturbing you," Tony said gesturing for her to sit beside him.
"I’ll brush my teeth first and..." she pointed at the bathroom. She needed a shower too.
"Come on, give me a proper kiss first," he winked.
"Let me brush my teeth first," Marcella said and ran away. She didn’t want to wait till he pulled her. She knew he would do that.
When she came back, Joey was on his blanket on the floor kicking his legs. Tony was setting the table.
"You are not going to work today?" she asked.
"Come here," Tony walked to her and wrapped his arms around her waist. "You are glowing," he pulled her into his embrace and kissed her.
Marcella smiled. "I am happy."
Tony pressed his forehead on hers. "You’re very beautiful, Birdie... So beautiful, I can’t believe I am standing here at this moment."
"Me neither, Tony... I can’t believe I am here with you either... And you are very handsome. Gloria said that she couldn’t take her eyes off you because you are very handsome. She doesn’t say that about a lot of men."
"I don’t care what Mrs. Butler thinks." Tony kissed her. "I care what Mrs. Crawford thinks..."
"Well, Mrs. Crawford thinks that she married the most handsome man in the entire world. She also thinks that he’s kind and considerate...Smart and strong..."
"Hmm..." Tony kissed her while pulling her dress up. "Go on..."
"She also thinks that he’s sexy and... although he says he has no experience, he knows how to make love to her...And he was cute when he thought he hurt her."
"Cute?" Tony stopped everything and looked at her. "Is that a good thing?"
Babies are cute. He’s a man. Can he be cute to his wife?
"Of course. Being cute is good. Women don’t abandon cute things," she winked.
"Indeed, I wouldn’t want to be abandoned," he smiled. "And what is that sound?" he looked at her belly.
"I thought you didn’t hear it growl," Marcella rubbed her belly.
As they were eating, Rosy rang the doorbell. Marcella realized that she was late. Tony finished breakfast and went inside the room. Rosy picked up the baby and played with him.
"Do you want to have pancakes, Rosy?" Marcella asked. "There is some mix left. I can~"
Rosy refused immediately. It looked like she was thinking about something and Marcella asked her about it. She’s a sweet girl and she liked her. To see worry on her face was odd.
"Does Mr. Crawford hate me, Donna Bambina?" she asked.
"Does it look that way?" Marcella asked.
Rosy looked at the floor fiddling with her fingers. "I know that my father does not get along with Mr. Crawford and it might extend to me," she mumbled under her breath.
Marcella smiled. "I’m pretty sure that’s not the case."
"Really?" Rosy looked up, her eyes bright as if a big worry had left her heart.
Marcella nodded. "He’s just maintaining a respectable distance with you to make you feel comfortable."
"I am... a little scared of him..." Rosy smiled awkwardly.
"It’s his way of making you feel welcome. So, don’t worry about it," Marcella patted her shoulder and got to the bedroom.
She didn’t know of that was the truth. But she guessed that might be the case. If Tony hated Rosy, he wouldn’t allow her to enter their house to take care of their nephew.
She had figured out that Tony tries to do a lot of things like her father did. He was open about her father being his inspiration. Her father kept his distance from the women around him too just not to cause any misunderstandings. He never talked about it but she has seen her father letting her mother deal with the female staff in the household.
She knew it was not because her mother didn’t trust him. He just kept the distance on his own. She didn’t think of it much when she was little, but thinking about it now, she could see how great her father was.
But Tony... He’s the charmer as she knew. Women around him loved him. She wondered why he kept his distance from Rosy alone.
Tony was wearing his trousers when she entered. She locked the door.
"Rosy thinks you hate her," Marcella said brushing her hair.
"Why?"
"Because you never look at her face and walk out when she enters the room, maybe?" she asked with a smile.
Tony looked at her for a few seconds.
"What?" she raised her brows. "My dad did the same so I can guess why..." she probed.
"Tell me why my dear wife made the surprise visit to my office yesterday?" he asked.
"Hmm?" Marcella turned to face the mirror. "I just felt like it...Why? You don’t want me to?"
Tony walked to her and placed his hand on her shoulders. "What?" she looked at him through the mirror. He had a goofy smile on his face.
"You women truly think about a lot..." he smirked.
"What do you mean?" Marcella asked.
"After you left, Stella talked to me. She suggested that...Well, never mind. I don’t think you’re that kind of a person," Tony shrugged and walked away.
"You can’t leave it like that!" Marcella stood up as she got more intrigued.
"It’s nothing..." Tony shrugged. "Ah, my back stings... You should trim your nails, Birdie..." he winked.
"Don’t change the subject, Tony. What did Stella say? Did she say I was ugly, clingy or... Did she think I am annoying? Or~"
"Whoa! Hold your horses there, Bambina... Ah, the way your mind jumps to the most negative thoughts..." he hugged her.
"Well, then tell me! What did she say about me?"
Tony looked at her with a smile. "Look how feisty my wife is... like a roaring tiger!"
"Tell me what she said!" Marcella glared at him.
"I didn’t believe her. Fine... I’ll tell you..." Tony chuckled. "She told me that you might have been jealous... she said you might have thought Stella was a young woman and came to check on me..."
"Huh!" Marcella scoffed and took a step back. "Where did she get that idea?"
She walked away not being able to face Tony. Damn that Stella! Why is she so intuitive? I shouldn’t have given her extra muffins!
Tony smiled. He doubted it very much when Stella said it. But he remembered how angry she was to see him with Cindy. Given that Cindy and Stella are different, he didn’t think that she would have considered it the same.
But looking at her reaction now, he was very sure that she did come to his office to check on him.
He didn’t know why that thought gave him joy. Wouldn’t men get mad when their wives doubt them? Why does it make him feel like he’s flying?
He kissed her head. "You’re right. I am just following your father’s example."
"Right. That’s good," Marcella said with a hard-pressed smile.
Tony pretended to not notice her stress and walked away. He didn’t have to tease her for caring about him. She might not say it but she is still in love with him just like she was back in high school.
Tony left for work first and Marcella followed. On her way to work, she couldn’t help but keep on smiling. Amidst the hundreds of faces she saw who were in a hurry to get to their workplace, she couldn’t shake off the smiling face of Tony.
He’s my husband... He loves me...
Thinking about his love, she didn’t feel burdened this time instead she was filled with joy. She has accepted him as her husband and that means she should receive his love.
And maybe... she should try and fall in love with him too...
She got down from the bus and walked with a skip to her step.
"Marcella!"
She heard a familiar voice behind her.
"Marcella DeAngelo! Stop!"
Marcella pressed her lips and turned. "What do you want Mrs. Murphy?" she asked.
What is this woman doing here?
