Wei Jingshan finished speaking and didn’t head towards the elevator; instead, clutching her documents, she turned and ran in the direction of the office.

Gu Kai turned his head to watch her as she ran off, his thin lips pursing slightly, then turned away to approach the elevator and extended his hand to press the button.

Exiting from the elevator, he happened to encounter Dr. Qiu, Qiu Wei, whom he had just mentioned.

“Ah Kai, done with work?”

“Mm, speaking of which, I have something to tell you.” Gu Kai called out to Qiu Wei who was about to leave after greeting him.

A smile appeared on Qiu Wei’s face, “What is it, tell me.”

“I need you to mentor an intern for me.”

Gu Kai’s lips curled slightly as he spoke calmly.

Qiu Wei looked surprised, “Mentor an intern? Ah Kai, you only have two interns, and you want me to take on one of them?”

Gu Kai nodded, calmly responding: “Mentor Wei Jingshan for me. Didn’t you say she’s a future outstanding surgeon? Now’s your chance to teach a future outstanding surgeon.”

Upon hearing this, a flicker of joy crossed Qiu Wei’s eyes. He immediately stepped forward and heartily slapped Gu Kai on the shoulder, “Ah Kai, are you serious? Letting me mentor the lively, cute, and empathetic beauty scholar Wei Jingshan? Are you sure your girlfriend isn’t getting jealous? By the way, did you really break up with Fang Zhiwei?”

Gu Kai gave him a sidelong glance, his handsome face slightly darkening, “Stop blathering nonsense. I’ve been too busy recently; that project was approved, and you’re involved too. So think about it. If you have time, you can mentor her. If not, no pressure.”

“The project was approved, this is great news! Mentor, mentor, mentor! Ah Kai, just leave Wei Jingshan to me; I’ll make sure she becomes an outstanding surgeon.”

Qiu Wei promised enthusiastically, irrespective of why Gu Kai didn’t want to mentor Wei Jingshan himself, he was more than happy with this arrangement. If he had the chance to turn this relationship into a familial one, it would be even better.

His excitement and joy were expected by Gu Kai, who’s lips curved up more noticeably with pleasure, “Next week, you’ll also be involved in Qian Xiaojun’s surgery. Have you received the notice? Prepare for it these next few days.”

“I’ve received the notice, Ah Kai, I’m heading back to the office now.”

After saying that, Qiu Wei ran up the stairwell.

As Gu Kai left the hospital, he walked towards his own reserved parking spot while taking out his phone to dial a number.

Settling into his car, the call was picked up, and his father’s voice came through the line, “Ah Kai, what is it?”

“Dad, I don’t want to mentor Wei Jingshan anymore. Send a notice to have her report to Qiu Wei tomorrow.”

Gu Kai rested one hand on the steering wheel, leaning back into the seat, his tone somewhat indifferent.

“You were mentoring fine, why stop?”

Gu Yan’s puzzled voice came from the other end of the phone.

“I don’t have experience mentoring female interns and it’s not very convenient for me. Dad, just send her to mentee under Qiu Wei. I’ve already talked to him and he is very happy about it.”

“Not convenient? Well, if you’re not willing to mentor, then let her go with Qiu Wei. I’m currently at the city hall. If there’s nothing else, I’ll hang up now.”

“Thanks, Dad.”

A pleasurable arc immediately rose on Gu Kai’s lips, his voice markedly happier compared to before.

After hanging up, he hummed a tune, started the engine, and steered his Maybach towards the direction of Wen’s Pharmaceutical Factory.

As Bai Yiyi walked out of the office building, she saw Gu Kai standing outside the factory gates, the evening sunlight casting a glow on half of his handsome face, his features partially shrouded in shadow, the other half seemingly coated with a layer of gold.

Leaning against the car, he exuded a lazy and noble demeanor, his hands tucked into his pockets, elegant and relaxed.

“Get in.”

Before Bai Yiyi could reach him, he had already gallantly opened the car door, inviting her to get in.

“Are you possessed?”

Bai Yiyi cocked her head and glanced at him, her brows lightly furrowing, but she still got into the car.

Gu Kai let out a snort of laughter, closed the car door for her, then made his way around the vehicle and sat in the driver’s seat, body slightly tilted, one arm resting on the back of the seat, “Didn’t you say this morning that Wei Jingshan likes me?”

Bai Yiyi blinked, studying the smile at the corner of his mouth, then pulled a smile of her own and asked, “Could it be that the pretty intern confessed to you, and you’re so happy, your narcissism reached new heights?”

“If a confession could make me this happy, you wouldn’t see me around anymore.”

Gu Kai took his arm off the back of the seat and sat up straight, grasping the steering wheel.

“Wouldn’t see you? What, can you turn invisible when you’re dating?”

What Bai Yiyi really wanted to say was, it would be great not to see him—did he think she wanted to see him?

“Are you a pig? If a confession could make me this happy, with people confessing to me every day, wouldn’t I end up like Fan Jin?”

“Pfft!”

Bai Yiyi couldn’t help it and suddenly burst into laughter.

She quickly raised her hand to cover her mouth, her eyes sparkling with laughter, “Gu Kai, just drive the car.”

“Just as I thought, you’re too dumb to guess. What’s the rush? Where’s Ah Jin, hasn’t he gotten off work yet?”

Gu Kai turned his head and glanced through the car window at the factory grounds before returning his gaze to Bai Yiyi, her face wearing a mocking smile, “I’ve nipped Wei Jingshan’s secret crush in the bud.”

“What do you mean?”

Bai Yiyi’s interest was piqued; since they weren’t driving, she might as well listen.

“I transferred her away, starting tomorrow, she’s no longer the intern under my charge. I have to thank you for this, annoying as you usually are, but thankfully you gave me a heads up. I hadn’t noticed it before, but this afternoon, it suddenly dawned on me that Wei Jingshan might really have a crush on me.”

“Narcissist.”

Bai Yiyi fought the urge to laugh and gave him a white-eyed look.

“You need the resources to be a narcissist. If you looked like you do, you wouldn’t even be able to be narcissistic.”

As Gu Kai spoke, he took out his phone to call Wen Jin.

He had just dialed the number when he saw Wen Jin walking over from the direction of the workshop. He stuck his head out and waved the phone in his hand at Wen Jin, who was looking his way.

Wen Jin was originally going to drive, but seeing him, he gave up on driving and directly got into his car.

“What are you guys chatting about? You seem to be having a good time.”

Wen Jin looked at Bai Yiyi sitting in the passenger seat and then at Gu Kai; the two of them not constantly at loggerheads was a bit surprising.

Gu Kai grinned and said, “Nothing much, just Bai Yiyi telling me that the intern I’ve been supervising recently admires me a little too much, and I’m afraid it might not be too good to let it continue, so I transferred her.”

Wen Jin’s mouth twitched and a smile spread across his handsome face, “Not bad, nipping everything in the bud. Ah Kai, there are so many little nurses at your hospital pining after you, I’ve never seen you take any action before.”

“Those nurses know their place.”

Gu Kai replied nonchalantly, then he started the car and took to the road.

“Could it be that this intern didn’t know her place, and made some moves to seduce you? Otherwise, your behavior would strike me as very odd.”

Wen Jin asked, feigning confusion, but the corner of his mouth held a hard-to-read smile.
